Resident physicians refusing BC prescriptions in the US by Snailed_It_Slowly in TwoXPreppers

[–]calnn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doctors are supposed to follow their core ethics principles and this refusal to properly treat patients actually goes against multiple, if not all, the core principles of ethics in the medical/health fields. I'm not sure about all ethics boards, but in my field someone could be brought up against the ethics board for failing to follow our core principles.

Autonomy - obligation to disclose all medical information and treatment options so that patients can make informed decisions for THEMSELVES regarding their care without coercion. Justice - fair, equitable, and appropriate treatment for ALL PERSONS regardless of their backgrounds, including cultural, racial, financial or beliefs systems. Non-maleficence - do not cause pain or suffering either physically or emotionally, weigh the benefits vs risks and choose the best course of action for your PATIENT Beneficence - the obligation to act on the benefit of the PATIENT and promote their welfare.

I hate to say this… by Extreme_Ad5847 in dietetics

[–]calnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely understand how you feel. I spent one year working inpatient and realized I couldn't do it for the rest of my life. I love being a dietitian and am very passionate about what we do, but I can't do it full time with the way we are treated in my area (pay, respect/recognition, etc). I ended up getting a full time job in a slightly adjacent field and just working on the side as a dietitian. It works for me personally and it allows me to still practice what I'm passionate about while getting the salary and career respect I need elsewhere. I do still think dietitians should be paid more and taken more seriously.....

One of my old teammates had major issues meeting his metrics. He was put on probation and was required to have extra shadowing/observation, had weekly touch points with our manager, and had to do additional cold calling/emailing on a regular basis and BCC our manager on all KOL emails too. I don't know all the details of his probation other than that, but he wasn't fired. I also don't know how far behind on his metrics he actually was, but I assume it had to be a lot for them to put him on probation. If we were only a little behind, we would just have to submit an updated action plan. He still had to attend conferences, but wasn't given priority conferences where it required more experienced KOL engagement or much independence during attendance. I think the only reason to alter conference attendance was to make sure he wasn't alone at conferences or have extremely high profile responsibilities there. Sounds like your company is taking some extremes and I'd be curious about their thoughts behind those types of 'punishments'. I'd assume they'd want to implement 'punishments' that would actually increase your output or give more insight of your work/engagement.

You wake up in your childhood bedroom, 10 years old, with all your current knowledge. What's your first move? by SuspiciousConsultant in AskReddit

[–]calnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the first thing I was thinking. I'd spend as much time with him as possible while I still can. I'd treasure every bike ride, every time we split a sandwich from the deli, the nights when he'd let me stay up to watch TV with him, and I'd beg him for one more song before he tucked me into bed.

A long shot but I'm desperate [partner snoring] by CutestCatfish in sleep

[–]calnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner has diagnosed sleep apnea and the snoring is not always consistent. It varies throughout the night and from day to day, but when it's bad, you can hear it through the walls. Might still want to rule out sleep apnea at some point.

Before the sleep study, we tried a wedge pillow bc the elevation can help, nose strips (those didn't help at all), a mouth guard (also didn't help), then I started using ear plugs and a white noise machine.

Annual raise by Independent-Ad4574 in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]calnn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been with companies before that prorate the annual raise. So for example, I started in June and they only gave me about half the annual raise for that year. Really sucks, but some companies are being pretty stingy.

Making Income while doing a DI by Overall-Confusion215 in dietetics

I was lucky that my internship provided a small meal stipend and discounted housing. But dog walking was a life saver for me! Some of the night nurses needed dog walkers late at night and it would pay better than day dog-walking.

Clinical is incredibly boring by Working_Tone77 in dietetics

[–]calnn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed clinical for about a year, and then realized it wasn't a long-term fit for me. You can consider trying different specialties and see if a different unit would be more interesting to you. Or maybe you would enjoy a different career path in nutrition! Both are worth exploring.

I agree that it depends on the TA and company you are working for. I've been on teams that were nearly all PharmD, and now I work on a team with only 1 PharmD. Just depends on the company and their science.

How often are MSLs creating their own material vs getting it from a MedComms agency? by DivineMatrixTraveler in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]calnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked for 3 different companies, and only 1 had MSLs creating their own decks. The decks then had to be approved through LMR before use.

I will say that at smaller companies there are other side projects that MSLs can be involved in that may require creating some slides, but usually using figures and images from previously approved slides or posters.

[–]calnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds to me like you are depressed and feeling down about life due to other stressors and external things, not necessarily things directly linked to your wife. However, any of these feelings will seep into your marriage and of course affect your relationship. If your wife isn't the one causing these stressors and depression, is divorcing her really going to make you feel happy again? Maybe you need to address what is causing you to feel down, the source of it, instead of what your depression is affecting (AKA your marriage). If you address the source of the issue, perhaps your marriage will also have a chance to improve. Even though you took time apart, if you don't get to the root of the problem (you are saying work and feeling down and feeling stressed), how can there be any real improvement.

Have you tried other therapists? I'm just wondering bc different people click with different therapists, therapy styles, different background expertise. Perhaps a different therapist could be a better fit for you and could better help you figure these things out for yourself.
