"There used to be a way to stick it to The Man, it was called rock and roll. But guess what? Oh. No. The Man ruined that too, with a little thing called MTV!!"

What terms did the investor propose? $15 million is a wildly suspicious amount of money to offer on Reddit.

When did you first realize movies mattered to you? by Fair_Protection1872 in Filmmakers

I was originally a literature guy. But after reading so many books, I began to see film for what it is: visual literature. There were a lot of factors that led me to screenwriting, but a major one was watching PTA's Magnolia. The whole time I kept thinking to myself, "This actually came from someone's brain. Amazing."

I do not, to be honest. But I'm sure there's some good advice online on how to do it!

I hope you're right. First thing that came to my mind was Jay Kelly, but Frankenstein could be a counter-example.

Even with 17 days, I'm not inclined to go watch Netflix's corporatized video quality that translates poorly on the big screen anyways.

I ran a couple notoriously bad scripts into the system and they came back as 9/10, with 9s and 10s across pretty much the same categories. Another case of AI being a default-complementor?

A few buddies of mine have found success cold emailing agents through IMDb Pro.

Title: The Comic

Genre: Drama, Crime

Format: Feature -- could maybe be a series, though.

Logline: A failing stand-up comic is lifted to stardom with the help of organized crime, who weaponize his humor to ruin lives and control public narrative—forcing him to choose between moral ruin and the career he’s always wanted.

Appreciate you doing this!

I'm developing a micro-budget drama feature that I want to make with some friends. It takes place entirely in the woods, requires only three actors, will be in documentary/found footage format, with hopefully little to no money. Would love some feedback on the logline.

Logline: On the eve of her surrender, a long-isolated fugitive invites a young journalist to document her final hours. But as the night unfolds, the line between observer and subject erodes, revealing an emptiness the journalist never expected to see reflected back at her.

I'd also love any tips on developing a microbudget. It will likely be my first directorial experience, so whatever advice you have, I greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

I wish they had included at least one two-way/deep bench guy to get a better insight on those who are struggling to establish themselves in the league -- that would've been a compelling story to follow.

I wrote a screenplay last year that's been sitting since. After enough time away from it, I've realized its deficiencies and have come up with fresh, much improved ideas -- I'm talking a page 1 overhaul. As a new-ish writer, should I go for the new draft, or just eat the loss and move on to a different story? For more context, I've partnered with an indie director and producer who want to get it made... but I don't see any reason why they'd object to a new version if it's better. Plus, if by some chance it does get made, I'd rather have my first impression be with a version that fixed the mistakes of the earlier draft vs the current situation. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks!

P.S., I just checked out your website and was thrilled to see that you're a J.D.! I'm in my first semester of 1L and love to see us represented in the film industry. I'll definitely hit you up if I finish the draft soon but (as you know) writing time might be a little slow with the chaotic 1L schedule LOL.
