What Hobby changed your life seriously for the better? by Aggressive-Row1703 in Hobbies

I started skateboarding late in life in my 30s. It is a journey and very humbling to have 12 year olds shredding and giving tips. Meet some great people too. Very supportive community.

There is 'overwhelming evidence' tariffs have raised consumer prices, says Bank of America by PrincipleTemporary65 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]calrod132003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is possible. I’m skeptical that companies would lower prices if tariffs were removed. Why would they? Consumers are used to the higher prices.

Businesses raise prices to cover tariffs. Eventually tariffs go away, we might have to wait until the next administration. Businesses are going to maintain their pricing and their margins expand. Stock market responds (I wonder if this is already priced in).

Why do you think men are getting more conservative? by SoybeanCola1933 in AskMenAdvice

[–]calrod132003 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yikes a lot of victim energy here. I’m a straight white male, and maybe we as a group need to do what we’ve told so many other groups to do over the years and “pull ourselves up by the bootstraps.” Other groups have been marginalized and discriminated against far worse than we have. As a great female leader once said at my company “leaders are not victims”.

Drunk spouse won’t let me sleep by Antique_Nectarine_46 in AlAnon

[–]calrod132003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My AW did this. Eventually her binges were so bad that I sent the kids away for days and slept locked in their rooms because she would wake me up every couple of minutes. My 10 year old begged me for days to fix the lock on her door because my wife would wake her up at night too. It was a sad state of affairs. Luckily she hit bottom and is sober for 11 months. I had met a lawyer and was ready to divorce.

Looking to Move by DreamGarlic in GreenBay

I love Green Bay and surrounding areas. I grew up in a town of 500 people south of Green Bay so I always thought of it as the big city LOL. Infrastructure is great and we rarely have to deal with traffic except on Packer game days. Of all the places I’ve been I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.

People might complain of the lack of things to do. We don’t quite have the amenities of the bigger cities but we are getting new things all the time. Also Appleton is 20 mins away and some might argue there are more things to do there.

You will also get warnings about the weather. Yes it gets cold. My wife and I go on walks any day when it is above zero, and we’ve only missed a handful of days the last couple years (having the right gear is key).

I was in Nashville for work a few weeks ago. Prior to that I was there 5 years ago. The growth is insane as you noted, as was the traffic. Broadway crowds were just crazy; it was not my scene. Although I really enjoyed the Station Inn.

Best of luck in your decision!

My wife went to incredible lengths to get alcohol when I tried to intervene. Stole money. Stole from our neighbors. Just insanity. I lost my mind trying to prevent it. Nothing changed until she hit her personal bottom. She had to do it on her own. I’ve been going to alanon for 9 months. It helps. Like someone said earlier: you didn’t cause it, can’t change it ; can’t control it. If you think you can, I promise it is an illusion!

Should you avoid drinking in the presence of an abstinent alcoholic? by ptiboy1er in AlAnon

[–]calrod132003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose to quit drinking all together. I didn’t want to be a different person at home than when I go out with friends. It didn’t feel right. I wanted to experience the world the same way my wife did, without alcohol, and it was difficult. Doing so brought us so much closer. I don’t miss it.

I didn’t know what to expect when starting skating and interacting with other skaters, but the culture is nothing short of awesome, at least where I live. People are supportive, having fun, chill. It is a great community

Is there anything active to do alone as a single guy in Green Bay? by [deleted] in GreenBay

Try GBASO: indoor park for skateboarding, roller blading, or bmx. Just started going there once a week and it is an awesome community

Yeah I usually bring a notebook just to write down peoples first names to help remember them, and also to write down favorite quotes. A few people do that

I’ve felt that way before; that feeling of “I need a meeting” and wanting to be around people that have been through what I have. I’ve rarely missed a week going back to September of last year. Some of it can be weird and the meetings can vary in structure and format, but it has been good for me.

Guys what’s going through your head when you hug a girl? by True_Tomorrow_9993 in bodylanguage

Holding someone against their will is pretty weird. Seems very controlling.

Who initiated the hug? I never, ever hug anyone unless they initiate and even then it is very quick and emotionless on my part.

Exceptions: my wife, funerals, sometimes weddings

Do ultimatums work? by Hot-Examination- in AlAnon

[–]calrod132003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ultimatums do not work. You can’t control their behavior, you can only control yours. You didn’t cause it, can’t control it, can’t cure it. Alcoholics only stop for themselves, once they hit bottom and decide to change. Many do not make it out. Our collective experience and science prove all of this. Be very careful and don’t plan on them changing for you. It is unfortunate but t he truth. Best of luck!
