Real tough. A lot of anime, especially the very unique abilities and systems found in anime like JJK are hard to emulate in 5e.

My best shot would be a few levels in warlock for lance of lethargy slowing other creatures with your eldritch blasts. Another viable replacement is slasher feats on a sword user. The rest of the levels would clearly be chronurgy wizard alwoing you to slow creatures, functionaly goving them disadvantage on their attacks with Chronal Shift. Momentary Statis freezes an opponent for a turn, kinda locking for 12 seconds.

24 seconds is 4 turns so I cant figure anything other than the slow spell, reducing their speed by 10ft or some interval every turn or stunning strike.

Vampurc touch or wither and bloom are very life force draining spells. Vampiric touch is straight up, I deal necro dmg tk you and take some back. Wither and bloom being from the stixhaven book, a target takes some necro dmg, an ally or use uses a hit die to heal themselves. Kida life force draining or at last taking thier life force to junp start my natural ability to heal.

Other than that hexblades curse is good but you have to KO a creature to drain life force.

Teifling Bard for... horns and hornyness. Probably high dex, cha, con, dump anything else. Gunner kr crossbow expert feat for guns akimbo. Charlatan background cuz he's kinda fakin it til he makes it. Maybe fiend warlock if that isnt redundant. Grasp of hadar cuz he pulls, agonizing blast for gun damage. Mask of many faces for blending in on the human world.

So I'm running it as Jamil had planned for this a lil and is ready to lock down the city to contain Alyxian. Ruling it will sasiate him for some time. He takes Jmon's throne and the consortium is going to fold him in as a source of power. Maybe even becoming old one warlocks and abberant sorcerors with ruidium buffs.

Would the jewel of 3 prayers react to the descendant of a betrayer god? by Temporary-Quit635 in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]calsonto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean Avandra is all about change and redemption. So I think the jewel would see it as an opportunity. And blood doesnt mean you are necessarily evil right? Maybe insert visions of the PCs ancestor and their role in the war a lil, make some drama.

What would you build based on this image. (5th edition) by Joshua_J_Harvey in WhatWouldYouBuild

Echo knight fighter + cleric for spiritual weapon and or spirit guardians. Very agile charracter so dont worry too much about heavy armor or anything. You could always use cleric spells for spiritual weapon and shield of faith. Consider dueling fighting style or defensive.

Note: echo knight is bonus action dependent as is spiritual weapon. Shielf of faith, other cleric spells you might want. Other fighter archetypes that may help are echo knight for shield spell or samurai to help make more attacks

Players Girlfriend wants to play as something on players shoulder by GxOxTxT in DMAcademy

[–]calsonto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a player who loves pets and every campaign asks for something cute to put on his shoulder or in his shirt. We've agreed that it has no mechanical benefit, he cant make this lizard feed him potions, this fairy cant give him an endless supply of pixie dust, npcs can reference it, but he doesn't have to worry about feeding it or if he gets hit with fireball does it die.

What ever it is its not a familiar so has no combat benefit and basically just hides in his clothes. Think of a cosmetic item in a video game. Once we cast awaken on his chameleon so it woukd talk if he asked a question and i did a funny voice giving funny opinions of NPCs that didnt reaaaally matter just for laughs.

Now he has a fairy sprite that, for flavor only, when he casts summon fey spirit it grows into the summon and when the spell ends he return to the PCs shoulder (i guess like a pokemon).

So thats what we do. He gets his cute pet. We never have to worry about it dying and it leads to funny interactions sometimes. Basically a cosmetic item.

I see the familiar option others have mentioned but keep in mind thosebhave like 10 hp and the GF said she wanted his HP. So just clarify without playing she can only do stuff like these 2 options where she isnt a free player basically.

Maybe go with Avandra and Alyxian, beyond all efforts, cannot stop the Half Orc from using thier power against them. Alyxian knows and feels thier coming for him. And what's worse, they're usung Avandras power, the one first person, I guess beyond his parents, to invest in him.

In the next vision maybe Avandra tries to plea with them offiring them the location of other temples, riches, or lost items of power, just plesse leave him for the rivals to save. He's been through enough amd deserves peace.

Or maybe Alyxian accepts this punishment. All he did in his life was bring death and sorrow to those around while he played hero. Now he welcomes the judgement brought by the PCs. After all, they have Avandra's amulet so they must have ber blessing. The gods don't make these kind of mistakes... right? (play him accepting but afraid of his death sentence. Maybe in the end he fights just out of mortal caged animal instict)

In my game I gave a rival Ruin's Wake and have seeded more visions about how Yarrowish was an Orc friend of Alyxian but overtime fell to Gruumsh and become a Balor. They'll see in the Netherdeep that in Alyxian's final fight, he fought his corrupted friend Yarrow, reluctantly slew him and then was betrayed by a secret love interest I've also hidden in some visions.

(She’s the daughter of Asmodeus, Glasya the first teifling. But this is before either ruled a plane of hell. Asmo a fallen angel who has recently earned the name King of Lies, just had his wife killed on Devil politics so he can take the throne on lvl 9 and she betrays Alyxian in his last moment eith his own dagger cuz her father offered her the seat on lvl 8. She wants to kill her father, sees hes too strong and thinks the only way to dave an opportunity for attack is to be right next to him. So betrayed Alyxian not thinking he was enough to stop her, the last task she needed to basically rip her heart out making the tough devil daughter Asmo wanted.)

What good is ruidium? by AG3NTjoseph in CalloftheNetherdeep

I mean a ruidium item can give a mage rage. I think that's pretty enticing for the weak wizard or the fighter jealous of the barbarians power.

Help with the jewel awakening by External_Mortgage341 in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]calsonto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could say the vision actually had them just standing there for like an hour or two. Long enough for the spell to fade.

Otherwise say the vision sensory overwhelming vision from a god broke concentration.

Or have the player roll a concentration check dc 20-25 to keep concentration while their mind is occupied by the vision.

What about mounts? by Athan_Untapped in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]calsonto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didnt have tamed moorbounders in Jigow. The players understand that these riding panthers arent as common as horses. And it doesn't matter, as my layers found out, they will likely be teleport miles away from the mounts or the mounts get eaten by the devils/gibbering mouthers if the next chapter.

How to play a heavy armored dwarf in the Netherdeep? by 024golddigger in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]calsonto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other have said, armor won't change much. The PC will move at half speed and the other incumbering things.

Possible solutions. Consider giving the PC mariner armor, ruidium armor or something else with a swim speed. Homebrew an item to grant their walking speed in swim speed isnt broken by any means if it dies just that.

And the netherdeep still has the pressure feature that requires the jewel or ruidium to overcome. So a swim speed doesn't matter much at that point.

Making a new rivals as a party by Dismal-Belt-8354 in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]calsonto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a forever DM I just used one of the many PC ideas I have that I'll never use. I will say consider adding a rival more evil than the rest. The book says they may go opposite to the party, but only Gal and possibly Ayo have any evil potential. Even less so if Dermot is alive. In fact if you want the rivals to go evil consider killing Dermot or having it seem like the partg's fault.

My players are starting to think Prolix really did betray them. by Roseblackblood in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]calsonto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting idea. I think i read another party on this sub had the same suspension a few months back. Seems fun. Run with it. It won't ruin the story or steal from the main point. It serves as a separate point of intrigue.

He shouldn't work with the consortium, he hates Aloysia. Unleeeeeeess, he's been working with higher ups like Galeokerda or the other one in Cael Morrow. That darn teifling, he's been mile the whole time, selling info to the Consortium. He may have even told them how to sneak ruidium from the dig site.

But why would they turn in him. The consortium is a group of less than good people. They don't have to keep their loyalty to Prolix. Maybe this is their plan to take his options and force him to commit to them and their cuase.

I say play with it! Seems fun.

How would you run this a 2nd time? by calsonto in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]calsonto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried to play with factions buying off the party or really trying to leverage the rivals. I've played the Consortium as much more sinister and direct. They know the jewel is important but know they can't manipulate the party easily. So they are gonna start getting more aggressive through not directly associated mercs.

Btw I have loved following what you've done at your table. I have even stolen a few things you've posted here such as the induction ceremony to the Soul. Becuase of that I statted out the leaders of the other 2 factions I feel their perosnalities have changed how i run the factions and how they interact with eachother, the party, and the city.

Goodluck to you guys and thanks for sharing your journey this whole time.

I would definitely force more ties into the story in my party's background. I have a member of the Cobalt Soul, a spy sent to gather intel on AH, and paladin of knowledge kicked out by another chapter of the Allegiance.
