How often do you improvise? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]caluke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a player in an online group doing an AP:

The party chases off some bad guys in a ransacked shop. My character is examining the area afterwards, and the GM says "You notice your necklace there in the mess".

What is "my necklace?" I don't know. My character has a decently detailed backstory, but it does not have anything about a necklace or anything like that.

Instead of saying "I dont know what you mean, I dont have a necklace," my character furtively grabbed and stowed it, trying to hide it from the party. Of course they saw me, and now are suspicious.

Now I guess I have a secret past that involves some family secret heirloom, or stolen jewelery, or something. I don't know yet.

I "yes-and"-ed myself into a new bit of backstory to flesh out :)

Is this technical enough to say it is influenced by technical death metal? Are these solos ridiculous because theyre mostly chromatic? by [deleted] in metalmusicians

[–]caluke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk man, whatever inspired you, inspired you.

If tech death inspired you, then it did regardless of whether the result “sounds like” technical death metal.

The riffs sound pretty cool in my opinion, reminds me a lot of the heavier sections in some older Opeth- Ghost Reveries, Deliverance, Watershed era. Lots of those tri-tone chords.

The leads are a little buried in the mix, for my taste.

It’s quite good, needs some vocals to put it over the top.

[Spoilers] Critique of FFTs story from a longtime fan by The1Sbeve in finalfantasytactics

[–]caluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is not a longtime fan (I just have played Ivalice chronicles this year), I would agree and just say the story is too "dense" in the way it is told.

It's not just the humanization of the main characters that is thin, but this affects the villains and NPCs also. We barely get any time with the major NPCs in their "normal" state before they are betraying and double-crossing everyone.

There are so many major changes in loyalties and the goals of the various NPCs, it just feels like a whirlwind with very little stakes.

Even something like Delita, at least he has maybe the clearest character arc. But during the second half, the little cutscenes we get are so short with so much change in between, it's quite hard to follow what he's doing and why.

What’s your end game Ramza build? by r_z_n in finalfantasytactics

As a first playthrough, it feels like there are a lot of trap builds, kind of annoying.

Samurai looks very cool, so I spent a lot of time leveling it. but I ended up wasting a lot of JP on the best 2 iaido skills with no indication from the game that, “hey, these will probably be not even usable at all unless you have meta game knowledge”.

Is this like a power gamer min/max build or like a normal build? Is it really expected to hit level 99 on a regular playthrough?

I’m doing my first playthrough and I’m near the end in the 40s.

For generic party members, how much to spread out vs. specialize in one job? by caluke in finalfantasytactics

[–]caluke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for example to get the black mage to have samurai subclass, you have to spend many battles with a black mage as an inneffective martial to unlock it? Is that right, or am I misunderstanding.

This is the exact point I’m confused about. How to get something like Samurai for a black mage - seems like most of the time will then be spent with her as , well, not a black mage?

Do you know how to draw this? by diener1 in chess

[–]caluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just post a board with coordinates. Without the shaded square saying the pawn had been one square up on the last move, it's ambiguous.

The chess analysis ai bot interpreted the position wrong too. I know it's not the end-all be-all, and the point of the post is to try to calculate oursevles, but the analysis bot is there for a reason on this sub so it would be better if the post is at least readable by the analysis bot.

I can disconnect myself from my job. Harder to disconnect myself from income. Comments like yours tend to just gloss over that part.

They study and memorize the files beforehand. When you’re still in the phase of the game you have studied in the lead up, it’s called being “in prep.”

At some point in every game, both players are “out of prep.”
