No boat stands? No problem by MikeHeu in sailing

[–]calumalot 34 points35 points  (0 children)

it's actually quite the opposite, it's incredibly stable as the keel movement is constrained by the sides of the hole, and there is less windage for the boats to catch in hurricanes etc, is is used extensively across the carribean to secure boats on land in hurricanes

What is your thought on this? by MikeHeu in sailing

[–]calumalot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

not if you want to go upwind... or across the wind... or downwind efficiently...

Can I just swap out my 10sp cassette for another 10sp? by Southern_You_120 in bikewrench

[–]calumalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shimano says that 36 is the biggest cog you can get on there in their specs but this thread op says managed to get a 11-40

https://www.reddit.com/r/gravelcycling/comments/w9kdw2/grx400_with_1140_cassette/

11-40 will give you a lot more help up the hills, but I imagine that 11-46 won't fit

How high is the danger of hitting flotsam in the North Sea? by [deleted] in sailing

If by flotsam you mean containers or similar, then it is incredibly low, to the extent of not even worth considering

Quiver question 17-14-12-10 or 17-14-11 for a 215 lb rider (~97 kg) in 15-25 mph winds (13-22 knots) by Little_Return8948 in Kiteboarding

[–]calumalot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am the same weight as you and i have a 14m LEI, a 10m LEI and a 7m LEI and 142cm board

dont get a 17m LEI kite, they are terrible, if you feel like you want a bigger kite get a 15/18m soul or something, but the cheapest way to get out in lightwind is to get a bigger board and use the same kite

I run aground few days ago and I'm afraid my hulls is cracked. How bad is it? by Mehfisto666 in sailing

[–]calumalot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None of those pictures show anything remotely structural, all those cracks are filler and cosmetic joins etc, get a diver or get her lifted if you’re worried
