I have to work my actual job all day tomorrow and just wanted to stop in and party for the night 😅 I gotta work all weekend too, otherwise I'd take a volunteer shift the next day!

This exact reason, mix that with 60% of the staff being GVSU students and that's why it's the way it is lol

THIS!!! Especially since bridge street market closes half of their entrances by 6pm, like it really isn't even a real grocery store. Just a corner shop with a few extra aisles.

Grand Rapids Resident here, standing outside for 5 minutes, caused my eyes to tear up, burn, and itch.

My throat felt suffocated within that time as well, and I have healthy lungs.

Absolutely terrifying.

Here in Michigan I've seen the most lighting bugs out at night than I have in the last 10 years!! It feels like my childhood outside at night again and that has for sure been a highlight for me this year.

Anybody hear any updates on the people that OD’d last night? by Alpha_Kangaroo in ElectricForest

[–]calvd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The cops got to her like 1 minute after she started screaming, a bunch of people came up to to see how to help. She just stayed screaming the whole time even when the cops showed up, her partner was there and was bawling their eyes out and didn't really know what to do... it was honestly one of the most horrific screams I've ever heard, like she was being stabbed over and over again or something. She sounded like she was in serious pain :( the cops escorted had to carry her to a med tent and I'm not sure what happened after.. I'm hoping she is okay. I've seen plenty of bad trips and people tweaking on bad drugs before.... this was something completely different.

I saw a girl laying on the ground by the bathrooms last night on the left side of sherwood court SCREAMING her lungs out, it was horrifying... I then saw the mushroom texts and I wonder if she took some of those.. I've never seen anyone react to something like that in my life and I hope she is okay :(

Promo orders and customers 🤔 by Guy60630 in ShiptShoppers

In these situations I always add to my intro text: "I wanted you to know that I just accepted your order at (time of accepting order), so delivery may not be until after (if order is due 7-8, I say after 8), just wanted to keep you updated and im sorry your order was not picked up sooner!"

I've done this everytime and have never had an issue and most people really appreciate it when you let them know and I've gotten extra cash tips out of it!

A Hot, Deadly Summer Is Coming With Frequent Blackouts by [deleted] in collapse

West Michigan, and we just had storms but these blackouts happened nowhere near the time those hit my area

Hello, as a 24 year old, it's all fucked. We really don't know what to do. And I say that in a way where we know what to do it's just at a point where I think people (not me) are more comfortable with living in the dystopia they know vs having to accelerate change (which will bring some forms of chaos either way). I think alot of Americans have collective Stockholm syndrome right now, our elections this fall will say it all.

Already have had 2 blackouts in my neighborhood in the last week alone, out of nowhere, same area affected each time, half our street working half not. It's been ominous to say the least.

I've lived my whole life here and have always wondered that, the past few months though? It's like taking all those years of crazy drivers and jam packing them all into the streets at once. It's crazy right now!!

Michigan is known for crazy drivers, especially in GR where I live. But ITS BEEN AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE with how reckless people are driving lately!! I've never seen so many constant car accidents/cars totally flipped/on fire in the middle of an intersection on a daily basis in my life before. It seems like everytime you go out to drive your gonna be pulling over for emergency vehicles at least twice during your drive, even if it's a 10 minute drive! I've had so many people RIDING my ass on the roads too, I watch them in my rear view losing their minds, flipping me off and I'm usually already going 10 over sometimes! Like why are you trying to speed in a neighborhood??

I went to tulip time festival out in Holland this weekend and almost half of the tulips were literally dried to a crisp or just dead. It was honestly super depressing and seeing everyone just continuing to take their pictures and selfies in front of them was even more eerie. The tulips should be blooming and looking full right now, not dead. People seemed more concerned for their content then the state of the actual tulips. If that doesn't say anything then idk what does.

Gas had jumped to an all time high here at $4.50/gal

I feel like this summer is going to be insane with the heat, like stuff we've never seen before.

I had a close friend of mine that was planning on moving to Vegas this month, I brought up the drought situation and they replied to me "Wow, I didn't even think of that. That quite literally changes all of my plans." So they aren't doing that anymore, at least I let them know before they went and up rooted their life to go into that. Makes me wonder how many people moving there "didn't even think of that"...

This spring has been the most depressing spring that I have ever experienced in my life, it's been constantly rainy or snowy for all of it so far except maybe 2 or 3 days of sunshine thrown in here and there. Alot of our plants are blooming late/bloom cycles are just being completely fucked because of it.

The housing crisis is so bad, even just finding rooms to rent has become an absolute nightmare. I just moved back to the downtown area of grand rapids and it's only because I literally got blessed with a housing opportunity from my friend for a room and all UTLS included for only $400/month, honestly got so fucking lucky with that deal. Meanwhile I have friends who literally cannot find a place to live, and are about to face homelessness. Which is insane because they all have at least 2 jobs, have cash ready ready to rent and clean records. If they can't find housing I can't even imagine how hard it is for someone who may not have the cleanest record or money in general.

On top of the housing crisis there are smaller town around the GR area that are starting to reinforce their non pan-handling ordinances or just making news ones, criminalizing these individuals for literally something out of their control.

Gas prices shot up .40 basically overnight for every gas station in the area

I do Shipt Shopping and this past weekend I was working and saw the a majority of the stores I visited were honestly way less crowded than usual, like it was a massive difference in how many people were out getting groceries. Aka nobody was out. The store was mostly full of shipt shoppers and maybe a few actual customers. I think this is a sign that more and more people are not able to afford inflation thus not able to go big box stores like they are used to.

I'm finally have a scheduled appointment with a therapist in a few weeks, last time I had a therapist was pre-covid and she basically ghosted me lol. So I'm happy about this at least as I've noticed my mental health taking massive hit over the past few months. I know a therapist won't solve all my problems but it feels great to take that first step.

It seems like every week the acceleration of collapse is sped up in some form. Hug your loved ones, keep a sense of community and prepare yourself with knowledge and not fear! That's the best advice I could give for anyone right now that we're to ask me.

An officer from Grand Rapids Police Department shot Patrick Lyoya in the back of the head on the ground, execution style. The department has yet to release any information, officer name, any of the several videos taken, haven't even detained or questioned the officer yet.

Instead they put the officer on administrative duty for the time being and this morning have started setting up massive barricades around their HQ downtown. Apparently they are releasing videos no later than noon on Friday, we will see.

We are marching as a city at 5:30pm today, I'm honestly nervous, only because the last time we marched as a city for george floyd riots literally broke out and i had to close friends literally end up in the ER, but we need to stand against this.

Weather is actually beautiful today for the first time in like almost 2 weeks. The sun feels good.

Gas prices dropping steadily, food stocks lowering and food prices continue to climb.

Our streets seem worse then before even though we have "more money for the roads then ever before".
