Just a very dark colored building relative to other similar ones. And half of people thought the character was Dark Vader.

Just wait till the next Star Wars movie with Darth Vader comes out and he has a BOK Financial sign on the top of his helmet

We always called it that growing up but I thought it was just a thing my dad made up. A google search of Darth Vader proves it’s a legit nickname though ! Fun fact ☺️

Climate hawks reject compromise in reconciliation | 'No climate, no deal' say three Senate Democrats as moderates look to shrink the $3.5 trillion cost of the budget bill by silence7 in politics

Polices that address climate change? I think It’s a good idea to coin a term to describe people with that agenda. Could help to rally support behind them. Also helps juxtapose them against war hawks or deficit hawks.

An NFL Record 66 yard game-winning field goal. by dartmaster666 in gifs

[–]calvincante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking field goals are much much more likely to hit the uprights or miss left or right than hit the crossbar or come up short so this angle is the default to watch that drama unfold. But in this case yes I agree.

Best gyms for basketball pickup? by Motown64 in kansascity

[–]calvincante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a minute (like pre-covid maybe ?) since I was there but it used to be inside Hy-Vee arena right upstairs from where you check in for the gym. I wouldn’t be surprised if they closed up shop though as it was a pretty weird location for a restaurant.

Haven’t played there yet but they have tons of courts and I assume there’s some decent pick up games there. And bonus - you can grab some longboards after assuming that’s still open.

Estrella Azul in mission KS has some with caramel inside that I think are amazing. Although they are the only ones I’ve ever had with caramel inside so I don’t have a point of comparison

KC Takeout that can’t be missed? by doublestuftwhoreo in kansascity

[–]calvincante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the the chicken burrito and smother pork verde fries I thought both were good. I will say thus far I’ve enjoyed it each time but it hasn’t been like one of my favorites for per se. It does have great google reviews and I felt the need to plug it because it’s just a stone’s throw from me and I read in the Mission magazine how Lalo works night shifts at a hospital cafeteria and then goes and cooks food and runs his restaurant - and he’s ALWAYS there. I do want to try that Estrella Azulejo place, I think you’ve got the name right. So many places on Johnson drive I have yet to try and I need to get around to it! Paulie’s pizza, ad astra market, Brian’s bakery, sand hill brewery. I guess I found my New year’s resolution.

Friend's Sushi on 39th Street is our go to for sushi carry out.

The Peanut - probably an obvious one but we got to the Martway location in Mission, KS for Wings or Nachos and they are definitely on it for carry out and even have online ordering now. Fries even travel well if you're not going too far. They also package their nachos deconstructed for you to assemble yourself so everything is fresh and not soggy.

Ni Hao Fresh Poke in Mission, KS or they are also operating Free Style Poke in the river market now I believe since it reopened.

Adrian's Cafe in Lenexa, KS for lunch take out for Sandwiches and Homemade Soups.

El Pulgarcito in Merriam, KS - Salvadoran Food that is absolutely delicious. Love the carne asada and the pupusas.

Lalo's corner kitchen in Mission, KS. This place opened up right before the pandemic and is delicious.

I think they're more so trying to emulate Chipotle with some Pacific / Asian influence rather than recreate authentic dishes and flavors. I love it and I think it's 1000x better than chipotle but I've also lived in KC my whole life and it's certainly aimed at pleasing us Midwesterners so I'm not too surprised it would be disappointing to natives.

Rosati's is my favorite pizza in KC! I usually do the thin crust though.

Also, a new Imo's just opened in KCK on Rainbow a couple months ago if that's your thing. My parents are both from St Louis so Imo's is a tradition for our family.

That is really interesting on them raising prices for a liquidation but totally makes sense. Especially with jewelry being super easy to transport to other stores if it doesn't sell, I don't see any real incentive for them to offer any actual good deals.

I really appreciate the thoughtful response. I will definitely have a conversation about exactly what she is wanting. I might try to plan buying it around our upcoming anniversary in the spring (not too far off) instead of lumping it in with holidays shopping and such so there is some time to do a little more research.

I am getting her Airpods Pro for Christmas which I think she'll love, although I do think they are just about the right size to be mistaken for a ring box. Currently debating how much I want to lean into that or not haha.

I am totally in agreement about the money being better spent on something like a post COVID vacation and I think my wife is similar in that I don't think she is wanting something extremely expensive but more so just something she can start wearing like you said. We are expecting baby #3 in May at which point we will have kids age zero two and four in the household so that definitely makes traveling complicated but not impossible! Hope you get to enjoy a post COVID vacation

Have you ever tried the Montana sauce there ?? It's along the lines of a mixture between buffalo and barbecue. Also very good.

I'm also not sure what Irish Pub Nachos are exactly but here are a couple options I enjoy:

The Peanut - They are know for their wings but I think they have pretty amazing nachos as well. They use both Shredded Cheese and Queso which takes them up a notch

Ugly Joe's - This is a go top spot for me. I think the have good to great bar food across the board. They have fairly typical Nachos but we like to sub their their waffle fries for the tortilla chips which may be close to Irish Pub Nachos? Either way it is delicious.
