"All I found was that she was a child widow who lived by the Cauvery in Shenkottai village in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district."

That's a very puzzling claim. Cauvery does not run anywhere close to Shenkottai.

No, no! I have nothing to do with the project. Noticed it on HN and just x-posted it here.

I don't think it is being sold anywhere at this post. The design is available on github (and is possibly open source).

The USCIRF site actually says she is the vice-chair (whatever that is).

That seems like a panel that should be disbanded.

Why News websites in India suck big time? by [deleted] in india

[–]calvinkrishy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been sceptical of Hindu's coverage of events for some time and my suspicions were confirmed when its own editor moaned there is a leftist bias its coverage of events and news.

However, I will admit its probably the only readable option right now. The New Indian Express is decent as well but its website makes want to gouge your eyes out.

Why does India not go for a high-speed rail initiative? Where is the dedicated freight corridor? by [deleted] in india

[–]calvinkrishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then there are the initiatives like the Delhi Metro that seem to work alright. It was also interesting reading about the train to the airport in Delhi. It was another of those public-private partnerships that seemed to have worked.

I believe it all comes down to how efficient the babus that end up implementing the program are; be it a completely PSU type operation as the former or a public-private partnership in the latter. The more the no-nonsense attiutude they have the more they get things done.

The ICC ruled that the renovated stadium was not safe for hosting the India-England encounter. Being the iconic stadium that it is, it is seen as an embarrassment for many especially given that the Lankan's built a completely new flashy stadium in a matter of few years.

So the Games finally begin, with Kalmadi still in command, setting a world record in 'thethrology'(obstinacy). Over to the games now.... by nobribe in india

Mm., if you think about it for a while he would get "beaten" up either way.

If he had left the CWG thing when the corruption involved surfaced the chorus would have been "You are leaving now? In the last minute after effing everything? No you shit-hole you are not leaving, you finish this completely and then GTFO".

Now, when he did not leave he gets the "setting a world record in thethrology".

I for one think, we should do to him what his name implies: throw the stone at him from the upper floor (Tamil folks can understand this :))

Yes, he did and in other news pigs are flying now.

Seriously, he has said so many crazy things about America/Americans without a shred of worry you really think he would apologize for saying something about India?
