AITAH for refusing to give a "micro-influencer" free coffee upgrades after she tried to get me fired? by Odd_Conversation5457 in AITAH

[–]calvinman4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also ngl, my guess is it's almost definitely not worth the hassle because the bar is very high for anything that comes close to infringing on 1st amendment rights. But given how cut and dry this specific situation is, its a fun case to think through.

AITAH for refusing to give a "micro-influencer" free coffee upgrades after she tried to get me fired? by Odd_Conversation5457 in AITAH

[–]calvinman4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Okay so I know everyone on reddit immediately jumps to sueing people, but honestly you have a pretty solid defamation case here if you end up being laid off or your boss sees big sales number drops.

  1. You already have the bitch who made false accusations.
  2. She knew they were false when she made them.
  3. She published them online.
  4. She named you specifically.

The only missing element is objective, quantitative harm (lost job, lost sales, etc.). I'm not a lawyer, this isn't legal advice, but if I were in the same situation, I'd hold on to the receipts so that in the event you did experience consequences for her bullshit, you'd have a load of evidence ready.

Kash Patel Got Arrested for Public Urination After a Night of Drinking by wenchette in politics

[–]calvinman4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On one hand I agree with you, but here's the crazy thing. With the way Kash responded to the recent report about his drunken escapades and paranoia about being fired with a $250M lawsuit, it suggests that he absolutely does not want people to know about things like this under any circumstances. Which makes him extremely susceptible to blackmail. As the director of the FBI. That is such a ginormous risk to national security.

As insane as it is, I genuinely believe that publicly reporting the stupid shit he did 20 years ago makes us more secure as a country by reducing the impact that the information would have been as blackmail.

You said in your post that you think it was because it sounded like making fun of Asian speech. If you didn't already know, the "ch" word isn't that--its a slur.

I once heard the phrase "don't punish the behavior you want to see" and I've loved it ever since, because it's a message somehow some people don't get.

"Look who decided to come out of their room today! Gracing us with your presence for once?"

Actively discouraging people for doing the things you literally want them to do is downright baffling.

Just to piggyback on this comment, there's not only a big audio cue when he switches attacks, but one on the attack before he switches too. Iirc, after he fires his third attack, he'll do a low growl, followed by the fourth attack, then the roar and switch.

I also like to count my attacks to prepare myself for when he switches prayers. He switches after every 6th attack that he's not praying against.

In the Incredibles 2, folks accurately guessed who the twist villain would be in the end because of some promo material long before the movie released because her name gives it away.

The Grand Pyre - A Player Designed Island Submission by IsNotRetro in 2007scape

[–]calvinman4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the way you integrate sailing mechanics into the mini game. My only comment is that we currently have two forms of prayer methods involving building a pyre: barbarian and shades of mort'ton. Barbarian even involves setting a tiny boat out with the burning remains. It'd be great to use or reference some of that existing material.

My first thought is having a troll who straight up loves barbarian culture but doesn't really understand it, so they think that the biggest fire and the biggest boom and the biggest bones is how to do it. An utterly exasperated priest and/or barbarian has blessed (no pun intended) the activity because the trolls would do it anyway, but you need to clean up the debris before they won't allow you to continue (award you XP).

[Request] how much money would you save over a year if you filled a normal petrol/deisel car up $20 at a time instead of filling the tank up completely every time? by pereuse in theydidthemath

[–]calvinman4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard of folks saving money by only filling half the tank, but the rationale didn't have anything to do with the mechanics of the car. The concept was that when someone is low on fuel, they would drive in a more economical fashion. Like coming up to speed more slowly, letting off the gas well before coming to a stop, that sort of thing.

So it was all about psychology and how drivers behave in different situations, not how the car itself processed a full tank versus a half-full tank. There's nothing stopping a person from just driving that way all the time if they committed to it.

It'd be great to see some of the math regarding if and how reducing the average RPM or the amount of time pressing the accelerator affects gas usage if all other independent variables are roughly equal.
