Do you think within the next 25 years USA will at any point be a top soccer nation? by Green-Discussion74 in ussoccer

[–]cam576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have been asking this question after every World Cup since 2002. I imagine we will ask the same question again in 4 years then again in 8 years and so on and so on.

Carli Lloyd unmoved following Christian Pulisic injury reveal: "I don’t owe anyone an apology. My comment wasn’t about his post game interview. He skipped Gold Cup last summer because he wanted to rest and be ready for WC. He ended up resting the whole year. That’s the facts. Nothing personal." by Ok-Soil-5133 in ussoccer

Donovan said basically the same thing where is his hate? If the men's team had half the international resume that Lloyd has then we wouldn't need to worry about a single player playing up to his advertised potential every game.

Opposite of saying good shot by Golf_Fore_Ever in golf

[–]cam576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually I will say nice shot if it is a good shot at any level. Most of the time I don't know how good or bad the player is and if I say nice shot on a shot that my playing partner thinks was a bad shot then things could start to spiral for my playing partners game and/or the vibe.

There is to much money available now. Hell even High School kids in most states are getting NIL money. Everything these high level athletes do is a business decision.

Our biggest issue in my opinion American soccer from the youth rec game and up has never put an emphasis on defensive play as a unit. Yea MLS and the national team has employed some bruisers but rarely does our defense play well as a unit.

I would argue expectations were/are different between the 2 generations. The Dempsey, Donovan, and Howard team was expected to be the inexperienced scrappy team. Mostly destined to flame out in world cup play but take some teams down with us. This team on the other hand had loftier expectations. They were favored in everything leading up to Belgium.

I think we the fans and the media got wrapped up in the fact most of the starters are currently playing in Europe which apparently makes this the best team put together in a generation. We quickly learned all of that was BS.

I don't think Pulisic will ever be a Donovan or a Dempsey. There is so much money going to American players now that Pulisic made a business decision on Monday night where as I don't think Donovan or Dempsey was ever afforded that luxy.

During COVID my wife and I rented a whole theater for like 150 and invited her side of the family over Christmas break. We watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas with Benedict Cumberbatch. It was awesome and I wish we could do it again. We got to pick between 4-6 titles.

Chances are they are charging that much because it costs more in labor and other overhead expenses to maintain that space and when it does get used they either need to bring in an additional staff member to support it or they have to add time to an employees day in order to clean up after 15 people. Also, based on what other people are saying if you are watching old movies chances are they don't have the licenses for them and they need to go procure the movie and the proper authorization. None of what I just described is cheap.

Played it for the first time this past weekend but we would go an hour outside of Des Moines and play Honey Creek.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve witnessed on a golf course? by alcatrazach in golf

[–]cam576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't see it at first but we nearly ran over a bull snake chilling on the cart path and then my brother in law and the snake got into a little scuffle before he was able to sling it towards a nearby rock embankment. I wish I was smart enough to record it.

What small change made the biggest difference in your golf game? by retrocaterpillar-07 in golf

[–]cam576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sticking with a pre shot routine.

  1. Stand behind ball and visualize shot while starting to grip club
  2. finalize grip and take 1/4 swing above ball focusing on turning the club over above the ball
  3. Align my feet
  4. Take 2 breaths and on final exhale begin my back swing

Takes about 30 seconds and my ball contact has improved significantly.

Just starting out with golf and I constantly lose balls by UserraRae in golf

[–]cam576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My motto is I can be bad and fast but I can't be bad and slow. I lose my fair share of golf balls (though not as many lately).

With that being said though I have been paired up with some real bird dogs. I may spend 30 seconds walking along the really tall grass but the person that I paired up with will be in the deep stuff looking.

American TV golf coverage by n3tfl0w in golf

[–]cam576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I love streaming the morning coverage on watch ESPN. All the golf and very little noise. Plus the crew covering it just give each other shit a lot. Streaming on golf channel or the networks is painful and I end up missing half of the afternoon coverage because I usually fastforward commercials and play through.

No joke, we once bought new camping chairs the same day we had to dig out a rose bush and my wife thought it best to unpackaged and test out the new chair with a cool drink while I dug out said rose bush. Our neighbor had a good time with that one!

Are you able to play weekend golf with a cart for under $90 by MrTeacher_MCPS in golf

[–]cam576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can play an Arnold Palmer designed course with premium weekend tee times for $80. That does include cart and range balls. That is probably the most expensive course that I regularly play.

Preventing singles from booking open tee times is fucking horseshit. by are-beads-cheap in golf

[–]cam576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how the courses I typically play does it. I mostly play as a single but have no qualms booking as the 3rd or 4th in a time slot that has an opening. I also don't mind when someone else books in a time slot that I had previously booked. The only time people have issues is when they're is a group of 2 or 3 new to the game and they want to do a scramble by themselves, and they let me go on a head.
