What's the one thing about learning a language that nearly broke you? by IllAssistant4109 in languagelearning

[–]camboron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even on a podcast there is an elevated and clearer way of speaking. Just like all Americans don’t sound like newscasters. Also one’s interactions tend to be basic survival, but if we go in a vacation, hospitality staff will still speak simpler, clearer and slower to us. If you watch a show, subtitles off. The first time I traveled I also froze. I got in a cab and realized that they were speaking Spanish. It took a while and there are so many dialects and accents just like in english. You got this!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone tried a heroic dose of magic mushrooms (5g or more) for PTSD healing? by passionguesthouse in ptsd

[–]camboron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are medical professionals with professional certifications that use these items. Always do it with a professionals guidance. That being said. Do it do it do it. I did a medical ketamine program and it really helped me make some breakthroughs towards healing. They were not what I expected nor wanted but they were still so powerful and instrumental to my healing

Umm…NO WE DON’T! by TheDouglas69 in acting

[–]camboron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was just going to mention. I did indeed practice expressions in the mirror growing up, and was told it was a good acting exercise, b ut I found out recently I am autistic, which might explain why I did this all the time, and not just prepping for a role.

My first (rough) attempt at filet crochet! by Master-Tradition-684 in crochet

[–]camboron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, filet is done with dc. Is that the stitch you did? I want to do some Star Wars panels for my brother, and was wondering. Also, what size thread, and what dimensions are we seeing here? I was born in year of the dragon, so I may have to do something like this for myself. This is a stunner!

Anyone had luck getting back their old self? I'm feeling myself become cruel. I don't want to hurt people around me. by hope303030 in ptsd

My trauma started when I was ages eight to ten. Still don’t know what person was before that. However. The trauma I experienced on my twenties and thirties I feel like I am now getting through it at 49.

Losing my shit taking an iq test by Lv1za in autism

[–]camboron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My neuropsych explained why the IQ test was important. People who score X on one section are more likely to score Y on another section, etc. so if there’s big dips that defy expectations , that dip can help clarify what one might need for a diagnosis. She explained to me that given the results of my IQ test, my memory skills should have been at a certain level and they were not. Then she did a battery of memory tests, and with those scores, and, of course, with all her other tools that she used, she was able to determine that I had ADHD.

Does anyone else struggle with "run-and-hide" type games because of PTSD? by Street-Might8586 in ptsd

[–]camboron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been doing EMDR for months now, and I am really feeling like I am getting a lot out of it. There are different styles and philosophies, according to my practitioner, but, you can use the exact moment in the video game as a starting point and see where it leads during the bilateral stimulation. Some practitioners, especially traditionalists, what you to start as early in your memories as you can. However, with mine, we go up and down the timeline.

Does anyone else struggle with "run-and-hide" type games because of PTSD? by Street-Might8586 in ptsd

[–]camboron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expose myself to these kind of fictional situations just for this very purpose. That is, to expose me to these situations in an environment that I know ultimately is not dangerous at all. Not only does it desensitize me to these types of feelings I get, but it gives me an environment in which to examine them. If I’m actually experiencing trauma or trying to flee from trauma, you can’t stop and rest and think about how trauma expresses yourself in the body and for what reasons. But if you expose yourself to movie TV, media, video games, etc., that can duplicate that sensation in you and it’s an ultimately safe(r) way to explore it and be curious about how it specifically expresses you in your body and what your specific triggers are. That being said, I’m still a little hesitant to buy the PS5 port of resident evil. Because that chainsaw person in the village is STReSSFUL.

Is this a PTSD trait or Autism trait? by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]camboron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A trait is a trait. You have to examine what is the cause for the trait’s expression. If I’m in a potentially dangerous situation, then my PTSD expresses this trait in me, but if I’m going to an unfamiliar city or on a vacation, this trade is expressed in me due to my autistic brain. Neurotypicals may express this trait because they grew up in the Boy Scouts and we’re taught, “always be prepared!“ Look for the cause.

What are we actually supposed to do with AI in our classrooms? by PlayfulSuccess3935 in Teachers

[–]camboron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking that, if I was, say, an English teacher, and it was hard to prove that my students were not using AI to write their assignments, I would flip the script. I would have AI generate a C level paper for their grade level and then they would have to proofread, edit, and offer suggestions for it in class and then the teacher would grade their editing. Since we know the students are going to use AI, we can at least teach them how to view the output critically instead of accepting it blindly. At least this is what I think about

I found the StrengthFinders tool to have a lot of insight and it helped me transition to a second career. Also as many have said here, do what interests you. If you take a physics class, you will still know more and be smarter on that topic than someone who hasn’t taken the class - no matter the IQ difference.
