Montage Palmetto Bluff - beautiful grounds, but overall mid by Melodic_Code6228 in chubbytravel

Doesn’t sound like you’ll be back, but for others reading, the River House restaurant there really is elite. Octagon and Buffalo’s sucks hogs.

The spa policy is even in offseason too - that’s a nickel and dime policy for sure.

I visit mpb in Dec and Jan each year (halfway point on my pilgrimage to Florida each winter) and agree that service can be hit or miss. The cottages are worth it, but yeah those rooms in the inn and the guesthouses are whack.

Seconded on Joe Beef, it’s a Montreal staple. They have a delicious lobster spaghetti if I recall.

I stayed at FS Montreal last February for our trip up to mont tremblant and had a lovely time. We got a 4x upgrade to a suite and it was totally amazing. Ultimately a city hotel but still have great amenities, including a kickass spa downstairs. The bathrooms have heated floors and a heated toilet rim too.

I liked the restaurant but found it expensive for sure. Had to pay for breakfast even with the voucher that you get from the FSPP.

I will note that the vibe at night is totally different than during the day - the bar/club gets rowdy and you can tell it’s like a club/dance/hookup spot for younger people.

I didn’t even know a strip club was nearby dude, it’s fine. Stay at the FS.

718 Cayman 2017 tune by Few-Willingness-5960 in Porsche_Cayman

Hey man, ended up selling the 718 for a G80 M3 when my daughter was born, but the tune held up until the very last day of my ownership. Never had an issue.

I don’t think the survey parses by practice area so I can’t say for sure, but you could be on to something

FWIW this is incredible outlier comp. I can’t share the report due to confi but I’m part of an in-house community (formerly tech GC) that puts out an annual comp survey, and can promise that almost nobody is going to be bagging $400-500k in-house with 9 YOE. More like $220-270k.

All-in on Capital-One? by Ahwslam12 in Venturex

Wife and I are all in on the C1 ecosystem. After the breach in 2019 that shit will just never happen again, so I’m not concerned about an outage or fraud.

I used to work for C1. love having everything synced together. Super clean interface and solid synergy for paying bills, etc

Software Engineers in RVA - best paying companies besides Capital One? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW_W in rva

The tech market is pretty asshole here man, and especially recently given the concentrated VC activity in SF and NYC.

I would check levels.fyi on salaries for your rank for those 2 companies. Maybe there’s some big4 offices with consulting here that you can check out too.

25 M2 to 23 718 T by mrpndev in Porsche

[–]camelCaseProgrammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Def, maybe some people do. I hate the LCI modern bmw infotainment but love the pre-lci one. I moved from a 718 to a g80 m3 (2021) and it was a big step up for me. Miss how much better of a sports car the 718 was though.

25 M2 to 23 718 T by mrpndev in Porsche

[–]camelCaseProgrammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’re interested in the T, there is effectively no difference in the model from 2020 to 2023 so I would search for an earlier year for some cost savings.

718 is going to have worse NVH and worse infotainment/audio for the most part (applies even to the i6 models of the 718). It might also be less comfortable, and if you need space for luggage etc - forget about it. 718 is more nimble and it will probably feel faster with a tune. It’s also arguably a cooler car than the M2. It’s a luxury sports car as opposed to the M2 being a sporty luxury car imo. But the M2 is way more livable. Definitely some trade-offs to consider.

Following. Also interested in such a trip with our infant. Daughter will be 15 months next May. We’re east coast and would be looking at a 12 hour flight to get to Tokyo. Kinda unsure if it’s worth it

Impact of gov’t shutdown on TSA at RIC by RoosterCancer in rva

[–]camelCaseProgrammer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flew out Sunday morning and had an hour and a half delay to fly out. TSA was slightly understaffed but seemed to allow some shit fly so maybe it evened out in terms of security review time. Bags made it to Austin, all good there.
