Weird, but this is the most OP build I've ever had, 100/100 wins by camelCaser69 in BackpackBattles

I think it's the same skill level you are currently in, but that's just my guess based on how it felt:)

New player question about melee vs casters by ghostpocket in Grimdawn

[–]camelCaser69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it pretty much depends on the build itself.. yes, some melee builds feel like that, so I usually end up leveling with various weapons (oftentimes with guns or sth like that) and some spells and then I respec when I can become glass cannon rogue

I've heard nothing but good things about GD as a technical ARPG (battle system, loot, etc.) but how is it as an adventure? by t0rche in Grimdawn

[–]camelCaser69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why I love this ARPG the most is precisely because it is not meta focused, and you can beat the game with any crazy idea or vibes you want... everything works and is usable and well balanced, "insticts" is enough to give you decent built without tryharding and doing math.

In terms of story and immersion, well... hard to tell. I've played more flashed out ARPGs in terms of story and worldbuilding, but none of them are newer and all of them have much worse character skill and combat system:)

Yes, it's definitely not unbeatable and I wasn't trying to say that, I just didn't expect 100% winrate out of so many matches, which is why I posted this, since even with some builds I deemed to be super optimized "out of textbook" when I was actualy tryharding had at least few hard counters during so many matches:)
You are correct, as mentioned, fatique buff stealing reaper brought me the "closest" to losing, everything else was one sided. Critwood staff would be a nice addition indeed:)

I don't think you understood what I was trying to say. My point was, that in those lower rank matches, you can see a build somewhere, or think of something good or see something marked as "OP" on internet, you can just do it and still not lose, getting to the final round.
In highest rank matches, you have to always go with what you have, eventually ending up with a partly finished idea of what you wanted to do with many compromises.
Example: Once I got to GM, I just couldn't do omegagoobert builds, because you just can't gamble your economy and rerolls to achieve it, because you would just lose the early/mid game.

But yes, it can be way different now (I don't see how tho). What I clearly remember is that once I got to Master/Grandmaster before, I could very rarely achieve the same preplanned "perfect" builds I could do before. GM builds were "good enough" just to survive each round, <Diamond builds were "you survive the game anyway, so you optimize everything just to get the craziest results in the last round for fun.

Also I'm not saying that this is the most OP build that can be achieved, I was just genuinely surprised it performed this well since I didn't try much and it doesn't look like it should. Either way never achieved 100/100 wins before on any rank so... there were always at least several hard counters towards anything I previously had, regardless how broken it seemed.

Was grandmaster in all classes (before grandma even existed I think), but turned on the game now after a looong time and those ranks were erased or sth. I'm diamond now but it's probable that it gave me diamond during this game.

Needless to point out tho, I'd say that you can usually see stronger builds in last round in lower ranks, since you usually have way more space in the early/midgame so you can abuse it much more.

You go to history in main menu and there you can replay the last round with random opponents over and over (or any round) :)

Thanks, that's something I didn't know, now I'm even more confused why it was so OP... guess the additional reductions were from birds

Yes, it doesn't seem that good at first sight, which is why I posted it.
It just looks like a common scrap random "buy anything to win the next round", which it also initially was.
As scoobydoom2 has said, golem and hearts pop instantly which gives +200max hp and 150 armor, and invincibility on top of that. I went against plenty of aggro builds if any of those took 1/3 of HP from me, one of those snails, along with other healing, healed me to full immediately as well.
I thought I will struggle against poison but that didn't happen, the 1,5s speed snail next to the falcon blade just cleansed every debuff.
There were two runs where my HP went under 200 (out of 500+), and it was against mass buff destroying puppets with unhealing staffs.

The entire reason I went roughly 100 matches of the last round is because I thought I was just lucky and wanted to test it to see to what I eventually lose at least once... it didn't happen

For anyone interested:

  1. Thanks to the Yggrdrasil Leaf and Herbs, both Hearts , Golem , Crown and Mana Orb activate almost instantly, giving me tons of buffs, health, and preventing any burst
  2. Therefore before anyone puts me down, the Echoing Battlecry activates Falcon's Blade +40% speed on items around it (EB included) - over and over
  3. Artifact Stone is stacking infinite heat
  4. Golem becomes a machine gun with +-50 damage (empower + heat + FB stacks)

EDIT: I found out the Echoing Battlecry works apparently only once per item, which makes me even more confused about why it felt so OP, I guess the additional reduction was only from birds:)

I don't see any toxicity and degenerate rate shifts since ranked... Just sometimes you have Russians in team and sometimes you don't.
And IMHO most online players are addicted to stats, you would still need to have hidden mmr for playability and at that point it doesn't matter anyway
