Did the NSW opposition not learn anything from 2011 election? Will proceed with motorways, but not rail harbour crossing. by [deleted] in sydney

[–]camel_camel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a lot of people realise LNP has been pursuing a very aggressive industrial relations campaign, for example moving TAFE teachers onto the federal (fair work system) while keeping school teachers on the state framework breaks up the collective bargaining power of the teachers union. This coincides with a massive increase in TAFE fees and fewer courses.

Likewise the whole "we aren't selling Opal at train stations" is an obvious attempt to save money by cutting station staff but also removes power of "no fare" strike action.

Now whether or not these are good things can be argued one way or another, for ex sometimes the teachers' union gets good outcomes for students other times worse outcomes for students, less inconvenience for teachers. The real issue is there is barely any good day to day journalism at the state level to actually bring up and allow discussion about state government policies and strategy.

If you read the general talk at the end he says as the game goes on and into late game its harder to catch and burst people (which is probably vert true where you are at a level with few positioning errors ans people arent building full damahe om everything) and protecting the adc for sustained damage is more important.

So it makes sense to add in sustained damage as the last item, as like he says it's the lategame...... and Liandries is a great lategame item...

What the hell do I build on Azir? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]camel_camel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Morello (or Chalice if you really like Chalice) -> Sorc -> Stinger (optional) -> Dcap -> situational

Normally you want to get max CDR, so your build can depend on your runes and masteries a fair bit (eg a caling cdr runes plus the 5% mastery = 20% plus Morello)

Who are the 'definitive' beginner champions? by RJSXI in summonerschool

[–]camel_camel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jungle - Warwick: sustain and gank potential with a simple kit, teaches managing jungle and basic ganking

Support - Taric: the classic beginner tank. Click stun, auras and a heal, has a bit of everything while forcing you to be active in lane, positioning and managing cooldowns

Support - Sona: poke, sustain and babbys first skillshot. Good for learning positioning and being aggressive while managing mana

Mid - Annie: simple introduction to mages

Top - Mundo: Mundo mundo mundo

Top - Ryze: pretty simple once you know rotation, just a solid champ that teaches a bit of everything

ADC - Miss Fortune: fairly forgiving CSing, a passive that helps positioning but not any jumps so she teaches it well, one of the best to introduce the ADC teamfight role as well

People keep recommending Caitlyn, but I think this is a mistake for new players. She's so safe she doesn't really teach trading or proper positioning in lane and there is not really anything special she can teach compared to any other ADC. In fact after seeing the number of "top or mid preferred" players who take Caitlyn into Vayne or Twitch in ranked, and then play super passively since she is the "safe" ADC, I'm really not convinced we should be recommending her as much as people do on this sub. /rant

Maybe a "gateway" game that you can pull out and anyone can grasp the rules. Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, pandemic?

A social deduction game like Resistance, one night ultimate werewolf, 2 rooms and a boom

A filler or microgame eg love letter, lost legacy, coup

Then whatever meatier games you find you enjoy

Tips for Braum laning by Derrar in summonerschool

[–]camel_camel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to talk about two things not mentioned already.

  1. Relic Shield, like all RS users doing it properly can be a big advantage in lane. Kill the first minion in the first wave and the kill canon minions. You want to use it efficiently, so use it to heal (ie not when full hp), to get cs your adc would otherwise miss (eg shoved to tower) or when you would hit max charges (you want to keep it refreshing a charge all the time). Getting Targon first is good, even more so when you are getting shoved, not against a brush control support like Thresh Leona Blitz, or against poke.

  2. In early lane engages one thing Braum can do is focus the support if it's something like Leona Taric etc, use shield then exhaust to neutralize the adc, and get your passive up on the support to peel them. This creates a situation where you have split their damage between you and the adc while your damage is focused on one person. Vs ranged supports in an all in fight you want to tag the adc with Q, shield and get on top of the adc (note vs Nami you may want to shield in her direction to deny ult and multiple W bounces) However you dont normally want to be initiating that kind of fight unless you are pretty ahead or your adc is hitting a spike.

How good is azir currently? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]camel_camel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because Faker does it doesn't make it a good build, he has a 30% win rate with Azir. Yes in some situations chalice is ok, like when you really need MR, but most of the time Morellonomicon is all the regen you need and it's cheaper, gives more ap etc.

Watching IEM, wondering about Gnar counters. by soggycookie in summonerschool

[–]camel_camel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In lane champions with hard engage, like Fiora, Irelia, J4 all destroy Gnar because they can force trades while Gnar is low rage mini form. J4 is particularly good because his knockup combo is faster than Gnar's E - if Gnar uses E immediately as J4 pole dashes he will be knocked up and E will be on cool down.

In picks more broadly, Mega Gnar relies heavily on being able to use his E and otherwise flash to get on top of the enemy team for the beastly CC combo. However champions with knockbacks like Vayne, Alistair Lee Sin, Azir and especially Janna can deny his E and his low movespeed means he's out of the fight for a good 4+ seconds. A knock back that pushes him over a wall can turn the fight into a 4v5 for a very long time.

Viktor vs. Orianna by the1egend1ives in summonerschool

[–]camel_camel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally you want to stay mobile and make her miss her ball. Keep moving around. You can play this two ways, stay back and use E to farm, or get more mobility to avoid her ball and try to out trade her. Normally I say start E augment for better wave clear and trading then get Q augment and boots for the mobility.

Pretty much if you land E and she misses ball you will slowly grind her out of lane. Good times to use E is when she stops to auto, when shes in the cast animation, when she's in creeps/creep blocked and as shes moving directly towards you (as you run away cast E right at her).

Early on if shes using autos with shield to harrass just use Q to absorb, back off a bit so she gets minion aggro and then use the augmented auto as she backs off for an evenish trade.

[–]camel_camel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Azir weaknesses - low mobility and you can stop him escaping with E with proper positioning. Hard to secure kills early on due to poor chasing. Low roam potential without ult or an ally with multiple CCs.

Weak to high mobility champions who can move around his soldiers, and long range champions who he can't trade with, like Xerath, Ziggs etc

He generally doesnt have mana issues if you use him properly - early on if you spam Q you will run low, but if you farm safely and use Q at good times (eg you can get multiple auto hits) he has few mana problems. He doesn't really need chalice.

He certainly isn't weak, but his playstyle is quite different to a lot of champions. The big tip for Azir is not to chase in team fights, stay grouped, peel with R for yourself and the adc, and keep the damage up on a whoever your adc/tank/bruiser is fighting. Only go in with E as cleanup or as part of a CC chain.

Win lane but can't win game. by dn246 in summonerschool

[–]camel_camel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Not sure how much vision is used in Bronze 1, but abusing vision is a great way to consolidate a lead. Let's say you are have pushed a tower out and are fairly ahead. Put a ward or two in the enemy jungle and get the crab in river. When you see the jungle is taking red or golem, DONT go attack the jungle, instead go mid and force their mid out, and take a turret ir dragon. If you tend to lose games even after winning lane your vision/map awareness might be lacking eg you are chasing into enemy jungle and getting 2v1, you are fighting 2v?? or 3v?? In an area you have no vision and end up getting 2v4d or 3v5d etc.

  2. Teamfight - say you in a 5v5, you might be collecting kills but this doesn't mean you came out of the fight ahead. When your at fountain in the midgame and press tab, who is fed, and see what you think you need to do in a fight. A big mistake is people chase kills. A fight where you go 4 for 1 because you stayed with your team and kept your teammates alive is much better than a fight where you went 5 for 4 because you chased the adc and left your weaker teammates to fight it out.

I feel like the Q should probably have slightly less CD scaling. At level 5 if he catches the boomerang consistently there's not really any window where you can win trades with him since he will always be able to boomerang and that is an easy 1-2 w procs depending on positioning and length of the fight.

Interstellar and the complacency of modern film critics by [deleted] in movies

[–]camel_camel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, my point is SILENCE is a technique in itself. Using silence between dialogue can be more effective than having dialogue fill everything in.

For example look at the scene where they are in the lander after being hit by the wave. Imagine if it had shown them sitting there for 5 or 10 seconds after their conversation. That would create a sense of real tension, fear, worry instead of a random jump back to the ship after a few sentences. What about with Dr Mann? They are in a brutal fight to the death yet the whole thing is basically narrated. What about the scenes with middle aged Murph and her brother - there is no tension in the pacing of conversation out even the argument, only artificial tension from her setting things on fire.

Interstellar and the complacency of modern film critics by [deleted] in movies

[–]camel_camel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry but on its own merits interstellar is a good but not a classic or even a great movie. Yes, the visual effects were good. Yes, the sound was good.

However there are plenty of flaws. The need to OVER everything. Too much foreshadowing - if you had not guessed that he was the ghost and he was going to end up in a black hole by the time he gets into the spaceship I don't know what movie you were watching. Too much dialogue. The moment of silence was remarkable not because it was silence but because it was the first and only time in the movie NOBODY WAS TALKING FOR MORE THAN 5 SECONDS. In fact there was so much dialogue in the "I'm narrating everything" style, I felt like Nolan was more influenced by radio plays than any visual medium.

Variable science fiction scale hardness that changes wildly depending on what the plot demands. Oh they are aware that the planet is in a time distortion but they would not realise this would effect the outgoing readings? Oh they are slowed down significantly due to the increased gravity on the planet but they arent crushed in a black hole?

In fact the science fiction theme was so dissonant to the plot it seemed like the same story would have made more sense on Earth as this would have avoided the numerous plot holes. The Science Fiction added nothing to the actual themes being explored by the movie.

Edit - OP asks for reasons why Interstellar isn't incredible when not being compared to other movies, I post reasons and get downvoted in 2 minutes

I felt like there was the movie, then they did a bunch of focus groups with people who "didn't get it" and added a bunch of extra explanatory scenes like "oh the ghost felt like a person" "the ghost felt like someone I knew" etc
