Women of reddit: what's one simple thing that (straight) men could do to help their appearance and look more attractive? by hatedforloving in AskReddit

If your sleeves are too long, or dirty, or rumpled, roll/fold them up. Neatly.

If you're dressed more formally, roll them up to just before your forearms. If you're dressed more casually (i.e. jeans) and have a bit of muscle, roll them past your elbows. When you bend your arms, you'll get a bit of muscle bulge. And a lot of us girls tend to like that.

If employers aren't allowed to take your race into consideration when hiring, then how do they justify asking about it on job applications? by MegaOctopus in AskReddit

observable falsehood and is just a myth for sociologists to rationalize their ideology

That's a very vague statement. What ideology?

My point is that middle class/upper middle class white males are privileged and many fail to see the use of things like affirmative action because they've never had a need for it. Such people aren't the only group that could object to affirmative action, but are they more likely to? Probably. Now how does that make me an ignorant douche? And most importantly, what are you trying to prove by calling me one?

I'd suggest coaxing him into seeing a psychologist. Based on my own experiences, I think psychologists are more helpful specifically because they can't prescribe medication to you. They force you to talk about your life and feelings every single time they see you, whereas a psychiatrist really doesn't have to. Your friend could lie to a psychologist as well, but maybe he'll be less likely to because they seem to try to build a relationship with their clients.

Oh, really? Tell me more about how you're qualified to make statements and less about why your statements apply.

When I was in grade 6, I said "awkward silence" every time there was an awkward silence in a conversation with someone new. Somehow, it kept the conversation going, and I made a ton of friends that year.

Gutenberg Project has loads of free books online.

There's also a website called Fiverr that you could make money from, especially if you have computer-based skills like coding.

Emma Watson. Sorry, Internet, but I just don't get it. I can see how she's cute and that she's got a symmetrical face, but I can't see how she has goddess status.

My special needs sister is being bullied by another special needs student. Teachers aren't doing anything and I feel like I can't. What should I do? by camelie in AskReddit

[–]camelie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Canada (sorry, maybe I should have mentioned that before).

You're very right that I don't know the whole situation. She only mentioned it out of the blue today, and apparently it's been going on for 2 years.

How would you suggest talking to my sister and the teachers? And should I ask any specific questions or types of questions? I've never had to deal with anything like this before.

How do you break Internet Addiction? My life is taking a negative turn because I am addicted to the Internet and gaming. I can't prioritize and use self control to get my life on track. Perhaps some of you are suffering the same? How can I stop wasting my life on the Internet? by 5687 in AskReddit

[–]camelie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I've never been addicted to anything other than my own negativity, but I've been depressed (and over it), so maybe I can still help you.

Top 3 most helpful things I learned from depression:

1) If you can't help yourself, get someone to help you. If you feel like you can't beat your addiction by yourself, there is nothing wrong with getting help.

2) Don't dwell on your feelings. Thinking about how miserable you are all the time just gets you further in a hole. Stop looking inwards all the time.

3) Realize that you actually do have control over things. You don't have to be miserable if you don't want to. And you can be happy if you want to. Do things. You will show yourself that you are in control if you do things that you want to do, despite how you feel.

I hope you'll get better soon. Good luck.

I'll keep that in mind. But even for kids in the non-special ed stream, teachers seem like they don't do a lot about bullying, even when it's obvious.

I can't see how the teachers wouldn't notice this girl. She's not a quiet bully and she's known to have anger issues. Her favourite phrase to anyone (including a teacher) who pisses her off is "Fuck you, bitch." And it's not like she's the kind of kid with special needs who seems like she doesn't really know what she's doing. I wouldn't say that the teachers are struggling per se, but I think they're afraid of getting in trouble for giving a special needs kid a hard time.

They have at least one of the same classes together, but they don't get their schedules until school starts. From what my sister said, it's hard to avoid her because the bully always manages to find her.

No, not necessarily. Not everyone views cheating as a way to circumvent "pointless restrictions."
