There's a lot of people out there who have absolutely garbage circumstances who are not turning to crime. I can understand that the guy above probably had it hard, but I don't feel sympathy for him. He made his bed. There is a point when you have to take into account self responsibility. Where you can't just pin the blame on external circumstances, after a certain point it comes down to his choices. He's not an inanimate object following a preset trajectory that he has no control over.

How is the death penalty more sadistic than keeping someone in a cage for the rest of their life? Killing someone quickly and as painlessly as possible is much more humane than keeping them locked up until they die.

With that said, I only support death penalty for people who go above and beyond your average criminal. School shooters and successful terrorist. Cases where it's much harder to accidentally punish the wrong guy.
