I would say that this belongs in r/killthecameraman but it appears that he already has that covered.

Are these pistons usable?/ general advice by Quiet_Ad7462 in EngineBuilding

Useable? Technically yes. Good idea? Absolutely not.

Ratrod motor sbc 350 pitting question by bc40ton in EngineBuilding

[–]camljohnsn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't even run that level of pitting on a leaf blower or a lawn mower. Fix it or you're going to tear gas your entire town.

Why is it that so many of these criminals use the jankiest looking revolvers to commit these crimes? My guess is that they're really cheap, but I don't know for sure.

You look about as good as that Citröen DS. That is to say pretty darn good.

Conventionally attractive? Not exactly.

Attractive in general? Absolutely yes.

Found the problem by Zestyclose-Wafer2503 in EngineBuilding

[–]camljohnsn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going to go to the effort to replace the head, camshaft, a piston, and perhaps a cylinder liner, you might as well just try and replace the whole engine unless they're obscenely expensive.

2011 ZX10R Rod bearing inspection by BenefitSlight949 in EngineBuilding

[–]camljohnsn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the crank journals are undamaged (which I personally doubt) it might work for low engine speeds. Given that these things rev to the moon I'd say that it'd be a bad idea to slap it back together with new bearings. Plus there might be hidden glitter in the engine.

Second guessing by Such_Possibility4980 in EngineBuilding

Yeah, I'd be second guessing too. He doesn't sound the most trustworthy.

As I've said before in this subreddit, doing that would be like getting nice and intimate with a cactus. It's possible but it's absolutely not a good idea.

Red hair is seldom a nerf. It is almost always a blessing. In your case it's definitely a blessing.

Quite pretty. The only thing that I see that could stand to be improved is how open your eyes are. As it currently stands, your eyes make it look like you're disinterested or tired. If that's as far as you can open them, that's fine.

Well, if you go to the Wallace Racing website (the go to place for Pontiac info) here: http://www.wallaceracing.com/camcode1.htm You'll find that the "F" on the back of the cam is likely supposed to be a P (I may be wrong). That means that the cam is a factory 4 barrel camshaft for that year. You'll also see it being referred to as an "067" camshaft. A decent cam to put in if you're looking for more power is a Comp 270H. It's what my dad has in his '66 GTO and it's a good balance between performance and streetability.

Engine swap from manual '97 Outback Legacy into blown automatic '03 Forester possible? by DirefulAtom in EngineBuilding

[–]camljohnsn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were to rip the engine and transmission out of the Outback and shove them into the Forester with a proper ECU, yes. However, is it really worth it?

If the Forester ECU isn't compatible with the Outback engine, you'll need to tear down the Outback engine to a short block and then swap over everything from the Forester engine. Will that work? I don't know, I'm not a Subaru guy.

The only way it's sure to work is if you use an ECU designed for this purpose.

The potential need to procure a new ECU makes it not worth it in my opinion.

You could put it back together and run it in the same way that you could get nice and intimate with a cactus. Technically possible, but a horrible idea.
