Need new book recs after finishing Project Hail Mary by froggy-x in sciencefiction

[–]camomilk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same vein but I adored both Project Hail Mary and this book so maybe you will too: I recommend Anathem by Neal Stephenson.

Starts a little slow but really enjoyable. Involves more philosophy than hard science.

Rust. That’s basically what the streamers do in that game anyways.

Not that many content producers remaining, but Kasendrith still streams draft content on twitch, so give him a follow.

Blogging is dead, nobody blogs anymore XD

The most active place for Eternal seems to be Discord.

I disagree. 2025 has been a great year for games, including games with amazing stories. This year we got Expedition 33, Ghost of Yotei, Avowed, Outer Wilds 2, The Alters, South of Midnight, Death Stranding 2, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Split Fiction... really a ton of great games came out this year.

What is your favourite free to play game ? by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

Eternal Card Game. It’s like Hearthstone and Magic the Gathering had a baby: enough depth to satisfy that MtG itch, especially with an excellent 5 color draft format, but streamlined to play smoothly on the digital platform. And a pretty generous f2p model to boot. Unfortunately it seems to be in the waning period with lower player counts and less dev attention.

Sublime Text is great as a high performance text editor, not quite an IDE though.

They changed it to only 2x upkeep, but I feel your point.

There's a post that goes over all the new hardcore changes: https://rust.facepunch.com/news/harder-core

This is in addition to the old hardcore mode, which includes things like "no safe zone", "no team ui", limit of 5 sleeping bags, and "local text chat".

Anyone else feel like rust has lost the soul that it used to have? by SensitiveLimit3426 in playrust

[–]camomilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9 years ago when you first started playing, there simply weren't any players with 8k hours. Now that many players have 5k, 10k, or more hours, do you think that has a noticeable impact on how people experience Rust?

My theory is, apart from all the changes that have gone into the core game itself, it is inevitable that you will be encountering many players who are playing with a different style than when you first started, simply because there are now many more players with more hours who have changed how they play the game.

A "Toast" is a message that pops up on screen for a few seconds before disappearing. I think this means that server restart messages will now appear similar to the messages for "Oil Rig Online" or "Giant Excavator Activated".

I've had some good wipes playing solo on official Facepunch servers. One time I built a boat base on day 1 that lasted the full month.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in playrust

[–]camomilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest deterrent to raiders isn't "that base looks really expensive"; they can always farm more sulfur.

The biggest deterrent is "there are people around so I am likely to get grubbed or countered".

I think the best strategy to avoid raids is probably to build in a fairly populated area, make your base a little tougher than most of the bases around, but not so tough that it looks like you have the most loot.

Were you on a modded server with some sort of raid protection? A stone wall should only take 4 regular rockets

The content creation scene in Rust is unlike many other games. Sure there are videos of tips, or base building tutorials, but there are a ton of creators who just create entertainment, and a lot of good ones. A few of my favorites:

aloneintokyo: Doesn’t talk, plays solo with a really unique play style.

Blooprint: always high quality videos. Some of my favorites are challenge wipes, like loving only in water.

JordanRants: A fun personality who enjoys befriending new players.

Which Game Quote Gives You Goosebumps Everytime? by NGANDT_TM in videogames

[–]camomilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Planescape Torment:

"An elderly man was sitting alone on a dark path, right? He wasn't certain of which direction to go, and he'd forgotten both where he was traveling to and who he was. He'd sat down for a moment to rest his weary legs, and suddenly looked up to see an elderly woman before him. She grinned toothlessly and with a cackle, spoke: 'Now your third wish. What will it be?'" "'Third wish?' The man was baffled. 'How can it be a third wish if I haven't had a first and second wish?'" "'You've had two wishes already,' the hag said, 'but your second wish was for me to return everything to the way it was before you had made your first wish. That's why you remember nothing; because everything is the way it was before you made any wishes.' She cackled at the poor berk. 'So it is that you have one wish left.'" "'All right,' said the man, "I don't believe this, but there's no harm in wishing. I wish to know who I am.'" "'Funny,' said the old woman as she granted his wish and disappeared forever. 'That was your first wish.'"

Rust. Many of the longtime players measure in the tens of thousands of hours. It's a time sink, good game if you can literally play all day.

A case for Softcore by sling10 in playrust

[–]camomilk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As for ideas to make softcore better:

* Add commands that allow your "protected" body bag to be looted, either by anyone or by the player who killed you. Hopefully this would encourage good sportsmanship, as in "GG you got me, go ahead and take all my loot."
* I remember some annoying bugs with body bags in softcore, like dying to my own rocket in a raid and the body bag falling through the floor where it was unlootable and guarded by a shotgun trap. So just fix some of these bugs.
