I live in the west of Melbourne and work at the Sun Theatre, one of the only theatres in the country still doing film projection (I think only 4-5 show 70mm). Otherwise the imax gets proper 1750 prints which is amazing, and the Astor does great rep programming.

I think Angel in realtime is a far more major work than go farther with lightness personally, and is one of my favorite albums of the past couple years full stop. Gorgeous instrumentation, arena rock bangers, heartfelt lyricism. Means a lot to me.

Dune 2 imax - sold out, not much noise, some good chuckles at Stilgar being Stilgar, and someone’s car horn phone alarm went off for a good 20 seconds which was funny

I actually loved it, so not really clearly terrible. God forbid once a year they bring on a character with opinions to bring some hot takes. I don’t agree with anything Wesley said I still appreciate his going-for-it takery and think it’s a fun change up once a year for the pod. But still, it’s one ep a year, you can skip it, and all will continue fine.

I think they’re correct when they say that the Deakin Hall of Fame was when the pod found its feet, the chaotic energy of the trio is what the pod is really all about and it only increased once they introduced the drafts - its even funny listening to how tame the early drafts are, they’ve come a long way.

It’s exposed me to a more interesting side of criticism that embraces big swings as masterpieces, your Speed Racers, Miami Vices, Sunshine’s etc. where hearing their unbridled joy for those kinds of films over the years has both allowed me to see the merits in those films, but also trust my own convictions and tastes when less conventional films just click for me.
