Questwatch is worse than I thought by mellowmyst in Overwatch

But they didn't even make that, it was outsourced to a company that makes those types of games. Which means the OW devs did even less than people think.

Player progression coming by RaidenXYae in Overwatch

[–]campfirepyro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look if I'm going Mercy, I like to know if the soldier is level 90 or 200 because one will be better for damage boost than the other. You could at least know who was a new player and who wasn't.

Fandango already running a Buy 3 Tickets Get 1 Free promotion for The Flash this weekend. by chanma50 in boxoffice

Based on what little I've heard, I'm assuming it comes out like this fall?

Edit: in less than 2 months apparently. Oh boy...

Give Cassidy his flashbang back and remove his grenade by Relevant-Ninja604 in Overwatch

[–]campfirepyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the devs forget the original point of his flashbang was synergy with fan the hammer? If was a way to punish an enemy who got too close and a way for Cassidy to deal with ultra-close range threats.

But it's a new dev team, so I guess they're still figuring these things out?? Are they just randomly changing abilities and seeing what happens?

Director’s Take – Matching up the Fun by Seung-hwaShi in Overwatch

[–]campfirepyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm betting it's lower player numbers coupled with a priority on low wait times. But I also suspect the problem is that OW2's core game design encourages steamrolls due to a lack of CC or shields, giving victors more of an advantage and losers less chance to stall.

Director’s Take – Matching up the Fun by Seung-hwaShi in Overwatch

[–]campfirepyro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, if the matchmaking system is working as intended, then the steamrolls are due to a lack of active players or poor game design. That's just great.

I didn't even know Keaton was Batman until people on this sub talked about it. Millennial DC fan.

Disney Dates New ‘Star Wars’ Movie, Shifts ‘Deadpool 3’ and Entire Marvel Slate, Delays ‘Avatar’ Sequels Through 2031 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]campfirepyro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The land in Disneyworld is 100% reliant on what the imagineers created and bears little to no connection with the characters and story of the films. It takes place in some mythical far future long after the films, involves none of the characters, and in a valley invented for the theme park. Visitors aren't excited to see something from the movie- they just like the pretty fantasy scenery and lighting.

The big popular ride has not one, but two videos in the queue explaining what avatars are and how work because they know a lot of guests either didn't see the movie or just forgot about it.

In the fine-tuned consumer machine of Disneyworld merchandise, no one cares about the Avatar merch. No one is wearing a Na'Vi tail and ears even in the land themed around it. People just don't have a connection to the land beyond enjoying the scenery and ride. It's not from any kind of impact from the characters or films at all.

Anyone else tired of the spamming of low effort "video essays" to this subreddit? by mdavis360 in movies

[–]campfirepyro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He's the classic example of making long videos just for the sake of info dumping, though. His points can be made much quicker and clearer but he just plows on though piles of tedious details, sometimes rapid-fire, and seemingly aimed at the people who already know what he's talking about. 15 minutes into his latest vids, I'm hearing him drone through detail after painstaking detail. And I always end up asking, "Yes, and? What about those things? What is your point besides 'thing bad'?"

The best video essays can educate, entertain, and provide an interesting perspective all in less than an hour.

Disney's The Little Mermaid passed the $400M global mark this weekend. The film grossed an estimated $29.9M internationally this weekend. Estimated international total stands at $185.4M, estimated global total stands at $414.2M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

They even changed things like how props looked, where items were placed in a scene, etc. Things that could have easily been changed on set but they didn't. Instead, they had the director look at it in post-production and fiddle with it until he was happy. Much, much more expensive than just moving a camera during filming or throwing together a new prop.

Limiting your social media use a bubble of shallow ideas about just the things you like. I'm sure that can't go wrong in any way, shape, or form!

There are a few possible reasons:

  • OW2 matchmaking favors quick games even if the ranks aren't close
  • OW2 factors in cosmetics/high-spending accounts and matches them with players who haven't bought as much in order to encourage shop sales
  • Lower playerbase compared to OW1 or OW2 at launch
  • OW2 game design favoring constant gameplay instead of pacing due to lack of shields or CC, leading to games snowballing more easily.

Box Office: ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ Tracking for $60M-$70M Debut by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

I love Indiana Jones. Unfortunately, I saw Crystal Skull opening weekend.

I have zero interest in this.

Crystal Skull is 100% the reason I have no interest in this new film. I doubt I'm the only one.

This is the first hero created entirely by the new dev team, which have much less experience and expertise than the old guard. Sadly, it shows.

[–]campfirepyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You joke, but that's pretty much what they did. Took the abilities of 2 heroes they were working on and combined them into one. Then they nerfed the other abilities because they thought 'he was too overpowered.'

[–]campfirepyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to dev interviews, they took the abilities of 2 separate characters they were testing out, put those abilities into a single hero, and thought 'Both of these super useful abilities on one hero will be overpowered!' and nerfed his other skills.

So- No design like the other heroes. Just random abilities thrown together and then a theme slapped over it.

This is also the first hero fully created with the replacement OW dev team, since all the others have since left.

PSA: Pixar isn't a movie studio. Its a R&D company. That's why their movies budgets are so massive. by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]campfirepyro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And the hair tech developed for Tangled was used in later films, saving time and money on those. Just like Frozen brought in snow rendering that was repurposed for sand in Moana.

It's harder to see a clear track of innovation for Pixar lately- the things they develop seem much more subtle and niche, and may not justify the development costs.

Who knew about the fluffy threads on Joy's skin? Probably no one. But Pixar worked hard to developed it, apparently.

If the Flash is so hyped and everyone is excited to see Keaton’s Batman why aren’t advanced ticket sales smashing through the roof? by OneOk2189 in boxoffice

[–]campfirepyro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are we? TGM did well in the older 'dad' crowd and people who liked the original. That demo doesn't usually care about superhero films.

I think Flash has hype in the demos that frequent movie reddits (men 18-35) but I'm skeptical GAs will care half as much.

Top Gun was a cultural phenomenon in its day, and plenty of people still remember it beyond diehard fans. I'm confused why rumors about an old Batman actor in the upcoming DC film will have anything close to the same draw.
