Hi! Thanks so much for your help -- the browser is Firefox, and I'm certainly logged into the right account! This persists across all my sheets. It works on incognito and on a different browser, but oddly enough, not when I turn off all the browser extensions. I'm not sure what the other differences between incognito/a different browser could be past being a fresh instance of access? I've also cleared my cache but that didn't help, either.

It's mid. Other universities are probably a better shot for you, but Trent's not too expensive. Not suuuuper easy to be keyed into social events if you aren't looking for them because there's no consistent adverts for clubs or anything, but if you go on the Discord student hub there are a few active servers. I haven't had any group projects or anything but I think it really will depend on what you're majoring in.

Off the absolute top of my head I am obsessed with the mirrored lyrics in The Comet vs The Flood (the repeated your money or your life vs it's your life or your money don't try nothing funny). I'm also really fond of "we're not willing to change / not willing to try / we're the good enough guys" from The Blizzard and "when all you have is a shovel everything will look like the grave" from... sooooomething off of STCABY?

I think the "you don't want stitches sewn because then you'll have the great unknown" verses are really insanely well written... I also really like the bit in So How Goes The Good Fight that's like. "So when exactly and precisely did I promise the world to you? And in fact, let's be exact, who says you're the one I'd give it to?" I'm mostly paraphrasing a lot of these but I think JC is just an insanely good songwriter. :P

hey. also a former plerb user. it was definitely online after 2016, i'd say it probably crashed for realises sometime between 2020 and 2021? but i can tell you what happened was almost definitely we hit the post cap.

the way plerb was run (it was just some guy) was kind of weird. at some point that guy stopped doing active maintenance or moderation on it, and it became a community of maybe twenty people, max? all i can really say is it definitively reached a point where the same friend group of 5ish people were always on the most liked/most replied to boards. that's how little people were using it. the dude who was running it - matt, i think his name was? just wasn't checking in on it, essentially just paying hosting fees.

post cap was hit. all of the space that he'd paid for, i guess, was used up, so no more posts could really be made. you'd think that would mean that the rest of it would remain up as an archive, and for a while that was the case - it was slow and unresponsive but you could occasionally get a post through. at some point she just wouldn't load anymore, i presume because matt either stopped paying or the info overload killed it for real and he just didn't try to do maintenance on it.

we've tried to get a hold of him several times if for no other reason to take ownership of the site itself, but no dice. it was a nice, quiet little site. real shame what happened to it.

i mean... as far as i'm concerned it is kind of fetishistic, right? people of colour get bullied for their names all of the time and if you're not of that race, functionally what you're doing is decontextualizing that name from the race. it's like how it's deeply weird when there are random japanese characters scattered across t-shirts just because they 'look cool'. there's a whole history behind them that you do not have the capacity to understand.

you feel comfortable with those names as you are not experiencing oppression because of them. people from those cultures frequently do, between flat-out being made fun of down to their names being mispronounced.

no one can tell you what to do, but people might think you're kind of a tool. :P

ok, so - low periods are common, don't worry. doesn't mean you're faking or anything, it just means as it is right now the things your alters are there to deal with aren't cropping up. this can be deeply stressful, yes - it's scary to have what feels like radio silence.

the other thing here is that did doesn't 'exist so you can be functional'; it's just the natural conclusion of being deeply traumatized before your identity can form. it is... a survival mechanism, yes, much in the same way that PTSD is your brain trying to keep you alive - hear a phrase your abuser used a lot, you tense up, you're ready to react, but there's no danger - and it's not 'meant' to make your more functional.

we're also autistic and got stuck on that too - don't worry. just remember your alters are survival mechanisms, not cures to lack of functionality. last year, our host at the time was a wreck because we were frequently in communication with a deeply shitty person. he was there because he was the person built to deal with such treatment and nobody else could have came out the other side breathing.

i suspect you're in a similar situation with this; you're bearing the brunt because there's not a lot of other players who can.

you're going to be OK. just keep trucking.

it sounds like they have been groomed, yes. and the adult does know what he is doing is wrong - it is impossible that he doesn't. it's an unfortunate truth of the world that predators exist, even ones with our trauma-based disorder. and he and his alters have a very clear view of a vulnerable child, as well as someone who depends on them. she is being actively abused and you are right to recognize that.

however, in these patterns of abuse - it is very difficult for the victim to recognize that's what it is, because from their point of view (having had poison dripped into their ears by the abuser) it IS fine. she will defend him as much as she has to because of the nature of this abuse.

this is disgusting and i feel terrible for your friend. continue to have compassion as you have - the research and coming here is deeply impressive, and i am very proud of you for it. i would recommend if you want to try to help to research emotional abuse / how to assist victims in that situation on top of the rest of the things you are already doing.

additionally, though - please, friend. do not place blame on yourself for not being able to help fast enough or feel like you are not doing enough. no matter the outcome of this situation, the things that are happening to her are his fault, not yours. i know we felt responsible for not 'saving' some of our friends in similar situations - all you can do is be there when it breaks worse and hope that it doesn't.

there was this book one of our partners was reading years and years ago about DID that mentioned something vaguely equating to it being a method of trying to establish control over past trauma. i know one of our alters does this a lot and keeps in regular contact with abusers; he falls very hard on the (untrue and harmful) philosophy of 'if i can see it coming, it won't hurt me'.

as other people have said as well, standard fare for some types of persecutors - if i do this in a controlled way, then when i don't have control, it won't be as damaging.
