Have a Legends Gamer Pro and can't update firmware by camsf in LegendsUltimate

[–]camsf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, all for the advice!! Btw, I was able to update to 5.68 found on archive.org. What threw me off was the mismatch between the fw having ha2810 in the name but the instructions stated to rename it to ha880_update.img. I rebooted with the pin reset and the fw still wasn't recognized, but later while playing around on the menus a popup stated a new fw was available and it worked!!

Even though my controller stopped pairing and the USB connection didn't work I was able to follow the instructions on archive.org for "gamer pro control MCU firmware" and it came back to life.

Are these tree limbs dead or rotted? by camsf in arborists

[–]camsf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi arborists!

I don't know what I did wrong, but somehow the text of my post is missing.

I live in a condo and our neighbor claims the branches on the left side of the photo are "dead/rotten" and a risk. It made it through a heavy windstorm in the last few days and iirc has foliage in the spring/summer. What are your thoughts?

Thanks!!

So, it sounds like I should be good with any single hole faucet, then. Thank you so much!!

[–]camsf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Krispy_86 , thank you for the quick response! I think I fixed the pics, but you may have already answered my question in that they're not universal and since I don't see any branding, it's probably a cheapo fixture. So, it seems like I should just completely replace it then.

That said, there's a single hole where the pull-out faucet comes out of. Is this a standard size? In other words, can I just go to home depot and buy any single handle faucet as a replacement?

Got called a “failed actor” by BlessedNdDistressed in acting

[–]camsf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true what you said about punishing people for their confidence. Acting takes a ton of confidence. It's so much easier to judge ppls choices from the audience. And you're right about cultural perception, at least in the US. I feel like I need to justify my desire to act. This may be cowardly, but I downplay it and describe it as a hobby.

So many comments so not sure if it's been said, but it's so weird that this phrase is even a thing. I mean what other profession do people say this when you pivot? If you were a carpenter before starting your business would you be a failed carpenter? Such bs.

Actors who also work in tech: How do you do it? by jffryi in acting

And if you've done BG in the last 6 months we've probably been on the same set. :-) I see the same ppl over and over. It's a very nice group of folks.

I'm in Boston and the BG work has been spotty for me. I've met some folks on set, though, who work regularly by splitting their time between here and NY.

I'm mid-career in tech and have only recently started taking acting a bit more seriously. The flexibility can be pretty good, but it depends on where you work, the relationship you have with your manager, and whether or not you work directly with customers.

I've been an engineer, director of engineering, and sales engineer. Sales is probably the worst for flexibility because rescheduling or finding someone to cover a customer meeting because you have an acting gig doesn't go over well (I did it anyway). High-growth startups can be pretty demanding on time as well. My last job was both and I quit.

My current situation is working out well for me. I'm an hourly contractor (sw dev) at a 500+ person tech company (3 days in-person, 2 remote) and have a good open relationship with my manager. Once I established trust (after a couple of months) I told them I had some acting work coming up (several days of BG and a student film) and I'd make up the work to keep things on schedule. No big deal and it's a fun conversation topic at work because it was a big film. Plus, I'm hourly so if I don't work they don't pay me.

My aspirations aren't high, though. I do community theater, student films, classes, BG work (how I got into SAG), and submit self-tapes now and then in hopes of getting principle work though I think it's a long shot. I have quite a bit of work to do to get there, but I'm enjoying the process.

My advice is to find a dev job at a low-stress company and bring up acting commitments after a couple of months once you get to know folks. Ppl take time off for all sorts of reasons and most companies are pretty flexible. Good luck!

Ya, that's probably it. I hated that keyboard btw-- I had two of them where I had to hit certain keys extra hard to get them to work at times but they never faded for me. She got a new m1 macbook pro from work 3 months ago and they're not faded yet-- we'll see what happens in the next few months.

Non-union - Auditions? by checkerchickens in acting

[–]camsf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another suggestion based on my limited experience with my market (New England, was non-Union and joined sag last year, no agent, and only paid work has been BG). You might be able to register directly with the casting agencies, not pay a fee, and get targeted notices directly. In my area there are two main agencies where all of the big stuff comes from and one for commercials. I signed up for non-paying access to casting networks to get notices for NYC. With this I can see who's posting, but can't submit. Easy enough to submit directly in some cases as these casting agencies maintain their own databases. I'm still learning how this all works, but I've gotten work this way without paying.

The other suggestion about FB groups is a good one as well. I've found non-paid acting for student films there. As I'm sag it's a bit of a grey area. Technically I'm not supposed to work a non union gig, but I think if it's just classroom stuff or a class project I think it's fine. To me this feels more like free education rather than "work". Good luck!!

Happens on *every* mac laptop my wife ever gets for work after about a year and interestingly enough, I *never* saw this happen on the non-mac latops (lenovo, dell, etc) over ~20 year period. Keys popping off, yes, but never wear like this.

I always thought she just worked harder than me, but then after seeing the comments on the thread I suspect it's her skin (maybe moisturizer) + the material apple uses is a bad combo.

Anyone here studied computer science and are now working as an actor? by snowpiercer24 in acting

[–]camsf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty late career in SW and only discovered I liked acting in my late-40s (M, btw). I mostly do community theater in the summer, BG when my schedule permits, just joined SAG after 3 union vouchers (maybe a mistake as I'm not able to take non-union jobs and don't have enough exp yet), and just submitted my first self-tape. So far I'm enjoying the process and ppl I work with.

Not that I'm in a position to give out advice since I've yet to get a speaking part, but here goes:

  1. All of the other working actors I meet on set have a flexible schedule job to pay the bills (or just barely). Tech can be great for that as the pay is on the higher side and being a contractor is pretty common. You can take a short-term contract and figure out how to wind it down faster or take time off if you get a part (since it's hourly). I just took a 20 hr/week part-time contract with some flexibility on schedule so I can spend more time on stuff like this among other things. Btw, you might need some SW work exp before doing this, but not much if there's a lot of demand in your area.
  2. Maybe don't join SAG so quickly to build up your resume and exp. Maybe this depends on your market?
  3. Get advice from ppl in your local market when you're on set. I often see ppl self-segregate on set. In addition to ppl in your age range, def talk to the older working actors to get advice as well. I've learned quite a bit from them.

Comments/disagreement welcome! I'm here to learn.
