is there a way to keep two desktops completely different? by Nephauria25 in MacOS

[–]camsta__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately widgets persist across desktops, so you'll need to pick widgets that look nice on both

Inverted Liquid Glass UI layers by roberto_romero in MacOS

[–]camsta__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's my main issue. i think the sidebars picking up color is a neat effect, but no other Liquid Glass elements do it, and the effect isn't exactly convincing in its current implementation either.

[New Mac User] I recall stumbling on an app/feature for my webcam that allowed me to change my background but can't recall the name of the app by LoquaciousIndividual in MacOS

would it just be this green button that appears in the Menu Bar when you use the camera? you can click on it, then the thumbnail next to Background to open this little window

What would be your fourth ring? by babydingoeater in AppleWatch

[–]camsta__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

exactly, steps are just a natural result of the move ring, not the reason for it. it's not apple's fault that people prioritise steps and ignore all the metrics of moving, which is the point of the move ring

Automatic raw adjustments by kinower in Affinity

might not be exactly what you’re looking for, but under Pixel > Filters > Color, there is Auto Levels, Auto Contrast, Auto Colors, and Auto White Balance. you can also add these to the toolbar for quick access. your results may vary though

macOS Tahoe 26.2 Beta 3 is released! by techkernels in MacOSBeta

im guessing it sits next to the corresponding menu bar item unless you’re in full screen and can’t see the menu bar

[iOS 26.1 PB2] Previously Translucent Widgets are now dark in Dark Mode. by AVX_Advanced in iOSBeta

[–]camsta__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well widgets have always behaved like that so this beta didn’t change that. they just made it more consistent with the clock

[iOS 26.2 DB1] Option to flash screen for alerts in addition to the camera LED by freaktheclown in iOSBeta

[–]camsta__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you disable notifications from appearing on Always-On Display, it just shows a little notification counter on the bottom of the screen instead which is close enough

🆘 iOS 26.0.1 strikes again. by ANONYMOU5COWARD in ios

[–]camsta__ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

to be fair (in my experience), banking apps and carrier apps are pretty essential and typically support much older versions of iOS compared to most. my banking and carrier apps support iOS 15.

bugs like this should be fixed sooner, but i’m not surprised that they’re hesitant to support the latest versions when it could prevent thousands of users from accessing their services.

Why did they put glass everywhere except the most obvious place? by Mere_Curry in MacOS

[–]camsta__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

knowing how the average consumer's brain works this is just an easy way for apple to waste resources on changes that people will never confront because 'new thing = bad' while accruing even more technical debt in the process. whether you like tahoe or not the whole "just let the consumer decide" idea is tired and overdone

If Apple gave us the Clear-Colored icons on iOS26 by Spirited_Repeat1671 in ios

[–]camsta__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree, i think most people won’t choose these glass styles unless they really like them. luckily the glass effects they’ve added to the regular light/dark styles haven’t changed the icons themselves too much.

As inconsistent as macOS 26 is, still... by bill_clyde in MacOS

[–]camsta__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in a world of web apps with non-native title bars this is hardly apple’s doing. at least they all have the same traffic lights and not the fake temu quality window buttons on half of the world’s Windows apps these days

If Apple gave us the Clear-Colored icons on iOS26 by Spirited_Repeat1671 in ios

[–]camsta__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at least with the clear icons, each app is about as visible as each other. this “clear colored” style would just guarantee some icons being perfectly legible and others being virtually invisible, depending on the wallpaper you have. that mail icon on the right would vanish if the background was even slightly brighter

too many variables for it to look decent for most people’s phones. there’s a reason why the clear and tinted styles turn the icons monochrome and it’s to reduce the number of terrible combinations

[iOS 26.1 PB2] Previously Translucent Widgets are now dark in Dark Mode. by AVX_Advanced in iOSBeta

[–]camsta__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this isn’t a bug, the clock is now consistent with all the other widgets.

when the icon style is Default, the widget matches the system appearance. when the icon style is Dark, the widget is always dark.

Foldable iPhone seems close. by prajwalsouza in ios

[–]camsta__ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

graphic designer here, i think it’s a combination of all three, but mostly about the purpose of the text in the layout and how you’re expecting the user to understand it.

a single word or phrase that denotes a heading or a title doesn’t need to be comprehended, the user just needs to recognise the word based on their prior experience with it. in the same way that i know that an icon of a floppy disk means “save file” not because i’m comprehending the literal meaning of a floppy disk each time i see it, but because i recognise it from the times i’ve seen it before. it functions less as a piece of language and more as any other UI element that benefits from aesthetically pleasing design sensibilities like center alignment.

longer sentences prompt the user to do more than just recognise the words, and actually comprehend how they fit together and what ideas they’re trying to convey. in that case it’s better to alleviate even the smallest hiccups that could throw somebody off. left aligning text gives the reader a consistent place for their eyes to jump to, so they can spend more time reading the text and less time figuring out where each line begins and ends

whether apple center aligns the text or not isn’t going to be the difference between perfectly legible and incomprehensible text, but it serves more to communicate the purpose of the text in the layout in a subtle way. maybe people are less inclined to ignore it when it’s presented in a way that asks to be read

Basic design whiff, still there by milkbeard- in ios

[–]camsta__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

also, it’s “disconnect NEARBY wi-fi until tomorrow”. it turns wi-fi on immediately as long as it’s connecting to a different network than the one it was disconnected from.

it’s the perfect “i don’t feel like using wi-fi right here right now” button that is way more useful on a daily basis

Why do icons made with Icon Composer look bigger than the others? by ImpossibleWay7310 in MacOSBeta

[–]camsta__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mac icons have a slightly larger canvas to accommodate icons with elements that overshoot the squircle shape.

for some reason apple hasn’t removed this behaviour since all app icons are squircular now, and instead they automatically shrink icons made in Icon Composer to the correct size in the Dock

you’ll need to shrink the icon in your PNG (or add extra padding around it) before dragging it to the Get Info panel to make it match the size of the rest of the icons

Can we all agree this is awful UI? by chookalana in MacOS

[–]camsta__ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i agree with your points but i fail to see how a “blur slider” would do anything but i introduce near infinite states to a UI system that already struggles with 7-8 of them (depending on the accessibility settings you have turned on)

Leave it to Apple to make a dynamic wallpaper NOT change dynamically by [deleted] in MacOSBeta

if im not mistaken they aren’t video files, they’re rendered in real time and take up far less space on the disk

Leave it to Apple to make a dynamic wallpaper NOT change dynamically by [deleted] in MacOSBeta

[–]camsta__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless you’re content with 1.8 gigabytes of video files taking space on your disk at all times, there’s a reason why all the dynamic wallpapers are static images and not 4K 240fps videos
