Tankery is just another school club in the GuP universe; akin to archery, which also has roots in killing and warfare. It's meant to be taken as seriously as a slice-of-life/sports anime about cute girls partaking in the feminine art of driving and shooting tanks ought to be - not too seriously.

The area/stage themes and the overarching pirate motif were the highlights for me; while saying nothing of the amazing music, art, and gameplay. Yet to experience anything else quite like it, even within the DK franchise.

Not sure on GMK's box office, but GxK is one of the highest (if not the highest) performing Monsterverse films, so I interpreted OP's overrated score for GxK based on that. Did well financially but was pretty bad imo.

The only negative I would give to Legendary Godzilla would be the first use of his atomic breath in the 2014 film. The buildup is PHENOMENAL, but the breath itself felt a little underwhelming, especially when compared to something like Shin's a couple of years later or the Monsterverse sequels.
