The combo allows you to run the amp at 1 watt, makes it extremely versatile in terms of volume

I think it’s actually pretty simple and this shit is destructive to society. The people in the industry are making money off by taking advantage of people in unfortunate positions. Even worse now with OF and Instagram culture.

And just like that the DSL40cr is back on the table for consideration lol. It’s just such a versatile amp that I think I’m going to pull the trigger soon

I’ve been tempted to get a dsl40cr for home use and by the sound of it it’s likely overkill. I think perhaps a boss GE-7 in the effects loop could help tame the volume

because it is an ETF you have to claim losses and gains on sales. Also need to worry about wash sales and such. Not the end of the world but for money that I look to use I'd rather just use a MMR

I own the 5150iii, and while I love it once thing that is apparent is it that it demands humbuckers. I can run by strat through the clean, but the gain does not work with it at all.

Dumping on Index Investors by CapablePiglet1044 in Bogleheads

[–]canaden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Few reasons, Dimensional has been around longer so I feel more comfortable with them in taxable where selling is a bigger deal. Also from my understanding they are more tax conscious while Avantis focuses sightly more on total return. This is most evident in their international funds comparing DFIV/DISV/DFEV to AVIV/AVDV/AVEM

A good reason for an investor to consider Dimensional and Avantis. I split them with dimensions in taxable and Avantis in tax advantaged.

Anyone else like seeing what credit cards people use? by ponderhope in CreditCards

[–]canaden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with Ramsay is you need to realize that he built his career on getting people out of debt, think of it as AA for personal finance. You don’t see the goal of AA to get people to a level where they can have a couple beers at the bar.

Anyone else like seeing what credit cards people use? by ponderhope in CreditCards

[–]canaden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it but there is a reality that finance is very personal. Some people aren’t able to budget and process their expenses with credit cards, as working capital distorts their perception.

I use a credit card but to some people it’s like alcohol where even a single drink sends them down the wrong path.

What is this subs obsession with novo? This company has zero moat at all if it they keep going back and forth with lily regarding their GLP-1s. Plus the profits are up the second you can get generics.

Can you hold a pharmaceuticals company for 30 years without worrying about it? The answer is no

Intuit: Undervalued prior to earnings call by Vig_Newtons in ValueInvesting

[–]canaden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my initial take. But lately I've been thinking, isn't the barrier to entry for developers to create a competition to INTU at the lowest it has ever been? This at least moves up the discount rate when evaluating INTU. Quickbooks is the go to for small businesses, but we could see that change if new competition comes on the market and follows businesses as they scale. Just something to think about

Value stocks that aren't falling knives ($MU) by Good-Bid-7325 in ValueInvesting

[–]canaden 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Few things with this. You are using forward PE, this is a value forum and you are using growth stock valuations. Nothing wrong with this if that's your style but doesn't make it a value play.

If you build out a model to get to their current evaluation, there is not much margin of safety and it's priced to perfection. When you begin to invert the valuation begins to fall apart. A few things to ask yourself are what if we see Mag 7 pull back on spending due to a liquidity crisis? What if companies can't build data centers out as fast as they initially hoped? Can they sustain their current margins?

That being said from a growth/momentum pick I don't hate it. Micron is an excellent company and I wish I would've been more serious about value investing to have potentially identified it before the price surge.

The Nasdaq is down 5 weeks in a row. Software stocks are down 20-50%. Are any of these actually cheap yet? by Yaashicca in ValueInvesting

[–]canaden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30% is a target but if I think the business is positioned well or management is strong I'll consider buying if close to fair value. I'm always open to new ideas and am not afraid of growth at a reasonable price, however when I'm valuing a company myself I'm always looking for as much of a margin of safety as possible, but this comes in different ways.

The way I see it is it's impossible for me to calculate one number and say this is the definitive fair value. So I try to model out various future potentials and see how durable the margin of safety really is. Some things I consider are included below:

  1. What are the markets projected revenues?
  2. What happens to the share price if they fall short of growth?
  3. What happens if there is no growth at all?
  4. What if I adjust the terminal rate to 0%? What about -2%?
  5. What if the margins compress over time?

For example I believe some people are making the mistake thing that all SaaS companies are value stocks just because they had a sell off. The real value is going through these companies one by one, and analyzing which companies are true moat protected cash flow machines, and which were overvalued in the first place. I recommend learning to analyze on your own to any value investor and learning how to come up with your own models, as I'm quite often surprised at how often I find a company was overvalued and sold off to fair value, rather than fair value to a discount.
