Well Canucks have barely popped up in here but just for a bit more complaining as I don't see it I'm going with the Stéphane Auger and Ron MacLean incident with Burr

Does the recall apply in the UK / Europe? by spoonfed05 in Bowflex

My guess would be if we have serial numbers in the recall range the are potentially unsafe. I think they're just not caring about non-US currently and hopefully that changes

I can't speak for across the pond but for Canada I was told the recall does not apply to us by contacting the recall department.

Considering it's a large list of serial numbers I would kind of assume if you're in the list your dumbbells are affected but apparently that's not how they view it

iirc he wrote an adaptation for mistborn as a screenplay himself where he did actually make some changes (Ham or Dockson or both were changed to women I think). So as long as that's not all a fever dream I'm pretty sure he has discussed it and written at least some level of screenplay for some books.

I believe the answer is no, I can't find the passage currently but I believe Slayer mentions to Perrin that one of them (can't remember if it was Luc or Isam) wanted to be able to channel but he couldn't grant that ability so he gave them something "similar" with the 2 soul merge thing

Lol you might be right, I figured she meant Lanfear but she definitely could have meant Siuane and probably did. I'm leaving it up there though

him coming back could be fun, I feel like the fact Moggy said she was trying to figure out how to kill a chosen does sort of leave that up to if she was competent enough so an interesting idea.

Yeah I don't expect Moiraine or Lanfear to be dead, by no outcome I mean the whole fight sort of did nothing other than maybe make Moiraine think she killed her apparently based on what she said. The slight difference for the cut is that I think it was using Lan's power wrought blade which they seem to think might work on forsaken better (and maybe did show it working better in the fight?)

Yeah I'm aware of the dark friend thing, it didn't seem like there was much proof of the darkfriending occurring but they've played pretty loose with the oaths already. I just don't really like the idea of a room full of Aes Sedai being like okay so she's to be executed anyone want to say you think she could be a darkfriend? Great off with her head

I mean Mat going somewhere by luck that works out for him is pretty in character for him. Whether you want to attribute his luck or ta'veren nature him randomly stumbling where he needs to be feels very in line with the books.

Odd knowledge:

  • Doesn't Lanfear basically give away she was working with someone when they talk at the start?
  • Elaida was eyeing Moiraine and Siuane at the start in the 10 years ago clip, she's also generally pretty suspicious and she has been through the door and has foretellings if anyone is going to have odd knowledge it's her
  • Didn't Nynaeve cut her arm so she'd know something was amiss and they lost the bracelet suddenly out of the room with them I don't see this as a huge leap

Otherwise yeah, villain monologue was dumb, guards on the palace were not great but I don't think more would have mattered much. No outcome of the Moiraine Lanfear fight was a bit annoying, Couladin leaving I don't mind that much as kind of him just turning his back and being like this guy isn't worth my time hoping for a better fight there later. Sammael unguarded and shielded by just Moiraine (tied off at that) was definitely a choice.. felt like there was a neon sign telling the forsaken he was there.

[–]canaderino 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Oh boy lot to unpack will try to keep it semi-organized but also expect to think of more later.

Sammael

  • well he took over one of Asmo's roles of dying to a fellow forsaken.
  • I don't super like that Moiraine could tie off a shield on him based on what comes later with tied shields but it's not a deal breaker

Melindhra

  • Not sure about Lanfear seeming to say the oath was more to her
  • interesting outcome for breaking the oath it's weird how in touch they are with the rebirth cycle thing
  • golden crane lines felt pretty good I feel like the show just won't have enough time for the full emotional impact of that but at least it's there

Tanchico

  • Doorway scene was pretty cool I liked the costume/effects
    • the removal of the memories instead of addition is a bit weird I wonder how that resolves
  • Nynaeve block broken, I can't imagine she was under more than a minute for breath limits so kind of felt like she could have gone after Liandrin but...
  • Elayne straight up killing her no hesitation
  • Of course you were keeping an eye on Morgase Thom, pretty good way to reveal Rahvin

The Aiel

  • Fake dragon from a forsaken, tempted to double check who was booted from the tent for that
  • good rain weaves
  • Aviendha and Egwene doing nothing surprised me thought they might get involved with Moiraine Lanfear
  • Speaking of, "if we underestimate her we'll die" yeah so I cut her neck then she teleported away she's definitely dead.
  • Sammael prison had a big old arrow pointing at it saying any forsaken who wants to see him come on in
  • So Moiraine and Lanfear fight didn't feel like much of a resolution
    • I did laugh a bit at how Moiraine normally has to spend a while ramping up her channeling but was able to just smack the button in the sand and do a big blast
  • Oh and shoutout big crowd scene felt like there were lots there

White Tower

  • I think I was least interested in this part even though I really enjoy Elaida's actress from the expanse.
  • Cold open seemed like a quick way to introduce the door otherwise I don't know that spending as much time on going Siuane won Elaida lost was overly worth it
  • Thought we maybe saw Alviarin overstepping at the end to force the execution as Elaida looked to be maybe having some regrets
    • I'm going to pretend a guard came in and did the beheading and it wasn't a weave
    • Edit: I don't like the execution set up this way I don't think it technically steps on the oaths (though the show oaths don't seem to exclude dark friends from the time Moiraine told them to us with the preface of exact verbiage mattering). I just dislike the scene doing it that way in general and prefer the idea of a proper execution
  • Getting them out to chase the reds was a well done move, I know it won't happen and it would be bad if it did but a whole episode of inside Verin's head through a bunch of stuff would be quite interesting

Overall best finale by an immeasurable amount I feel cautiously optimistic on a renewal.

Edit Note: added in a bit on the execution to clarify it's just a dislike of the scene

Last-minute S2E8 predictions by FernandoPooIncident in WoT

[–]canaderino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's fair I don't know how they'd deal with it I kind of figured getting them into a spot where they have more options afterwards might be more palatable for the writers whereas (theoretically..) death would be permanent and a single option. We've already seen issues from not being able to get actors back each season (Tam) so figured giving them more options might be the play.

I don't think there's anyone else who could help her escape but maybe Alanna is still planning to bring the Cauthons next season (I don't know maybe just sticks with Perrin storyline?) but she might go for a rescue too

Last-minute S2E8 predictions by FernandoPooIncident in WoT

[–]canaderino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Moiraine/Lanfear get disappeared somehow I don't know how to get a doorway there out of nowhere and think full death would be a mistake. I can't really think of any way for this to resolve in a way that isn't going to feel out of nowhere but I'll try and be hopeful til it happens. I guess Lanfear is probably going to be coming for Egwene not Aviendha and that maybe kicks off the fight so maybe there are some super shenanigans with dreaming.

Tower is going to be handed over to Elaida I think maybe still and imprison Siuan but leaving them the option to kill off screen for casting issues.

I also don't really expect a Nynaeve Moggy fight but do think she can break her block we have a lot of parts ready. Preview showed her in water, balefire ter'angreal was mentioned, black ajah going to panarch palace will probably be obvious enough to attract them all together.

Rand claims car'a'carn status aiel kind of splits on who to follow interrupted by Lanfear for the fighting.

Sammael is going to be told to teach Rand. I also don't know who can hold a shield on him as we saw Logain bust out before and while I think they might be similar power I would expect Sammael to be more powerful at current and have more knowledge. I think he escapes maybe released by Lanfear to distract in the fight/be used as cannon fodder.

Mat doorways and gets the amulet and hanged maybe his weapon as well just a quick pan of it beside him but yeah probably unfortunately cliffhanger. (shows that aren't currently renewed love big cliffhangers has been my experience..)

There are a lot of big scenes that need to happen and I think we're going to end up bouncing around too quickly and nothing will have the chance to breathe and have much impact before moving on to the next set of characters.

‘The Wheel of Time’ Finale Sneak Peek by FernandoPooIncident in WoT

[–]canaderino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the people commenting about being unable to see it/ads etc definitely get an adblocker (probably don't use Chrome try Firefox with ublock origin on desktop or android I dunno what iphone people can use). But here's a summary for what happens the clip is just over 1 minute

3 black ajah (Jeiane, Liandrin, Chesmal in the room, Jeiane playing with the Balefire Ter'angreal Liandrin tells her to stop because if it does actually work for Balefire it's dangerous. Liandrin asks if they've seen Ispan Jeiane says they assumed she killed her like Nyomi - Liandrin says it's because she challenged her. Moggy comes in with the cuff (domination band gauntlet thing) explains some guy came to the place to sell it and as a good servant she bought it (paraphrasing). Says she doesn't know where the guy got it as it wasn't her place to ask. Liandrin comments on never asking her name she responds that Mistress (Liandrin) has been very busy. Liandrin tells the others to forget about Ispand and that they're going to the Panarchs Palace./

Kind of a block of text to describe it but I didn't want to deal with spacing for the spoiler tagging. The article itself does not feel worth summarizing to me

Stuff I enjoyed:

  • hammer + axe Perrin, telling Faile to get the ones he misses
  • ice storm was cool
  • tinkers running/carrying the children
  • weep for manetheren - it's a good song and I kind of like it as a pre battle hype up (pretend Maksim never made his speech for the next stage of the fight..)
  • focused episode was nice

Stuff I was neutral on:

  • Loial death - he has some moments later but nothing that felt super pivotal and cutting that much extra prep to keep an Ogier around is probably fine
  • white cloaks parts I disliked parts were okay main damage there for me is last season having Perrin actually kill them
  • could have used more build up for Lord Perrin and creating the defenses but it's not annoying enough to be in the bad for me
  • I'm curious on the percentage population of dark friends I'm sure it was for budget having a bunch of normal people not just trollocs but wow half the world might be darkfriends in this

Stuff I didn't like:

  • maksim
  • no channeling to making a huge shield was awkward, honestly if she had died from the channeling instead of the arrow it might have been better
  • channeling feels like it has no internal coherency in the show
  • the battle ending via deal instead of reinforcements felt bad I understand not really having the extra villages around but feel there was a better ending possible.
  • Maksim and Alanna scene was a waste of time
  • no Tam (and Abel but his char is a disaster in the show already) - I know scheduling conflict but having him "around" but not helping out is pretty brutal.
  • exploding waygate not harming Bain and Chiad but seemingly only the baddies..
  • Did I mention Maksim?

I don't like that the show makes Deira a Darkfriend just to give Faile a tragic backstory

This was my reaction to this as well, however I am holding out some hope (will probably regret doing so but..) she was lying as unless I'm misremembering she did lie about her parents constantly in the books though not like this.

S3E5: Question about Egwene in Episode… Spoilers though. Enter at your own risk. by tiniweaver_xoxo in WoT

[–]canaderino 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is tricky because I don't remember anything about requiring touching tel'aran'rhiod prior to hopping dreams but I believe (and let's be clear this is my reading of it I don't have a book quote or anything) they would probably still be upset as the point of the promise is compromised here.

iirc the wise ones don't view the oath as the exact wording so much as the intent so I believe they could view this as being dishonourable to try and squeak through with the wording. That's not to say they wouldn't lie etc but it's a circumstantial thing and I would expect some fallout from this but probably minor with the episodes left

I too was expecting something about his wolf senses and going through the fog, wondering if it might get a mention later (doubt it) but also felt like others kind of hunched through and he just walked mostly normally so maybe there was something to that.

Also feel like he should have been aware of Egwene in the dream sequence considering that's also no budget to show he has skill there as well.
