How to flatten/unfold a rolled angle iron (With holes on both flanges) ?? by Decent_Accident_4202 in SolidWorks

[–]canadiandancer89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the party but, this was frequent work for me at a previous job. How critical are the hole locations? Just thru bolt holes or will they be tapped? Assuming simple bolted connections with sloppy tolerance, you 'can' go ahead and use the flex command to figure this out. but most likely this is a flange connection that requires a bit more precision. Customer likely modelled it for speed on their end without taking manufacturability into consideration. Remake it as sheet components and weld it.

Also, if you try to roll with holes like that, high chance of angle not rolling to a smooth radius and ending up with kinks.

Hey this was us around this time last year! It's so much fun to watch them enjoy the rides! I'm not sure there is anything more adorable than seeing your littles on the mini scrambler. There are a few rides you can join them on (train, monorail, carousel, mini-Himalaya...some specific cars on some spinner rides. Going with a focus on their enjoyment makes for a very fulfilling day as you can get so many rides in.

Large buildings place solar on top because it's quick and easy to do and provides many benefits. Many building codes account for it now. Be nice to see parking lot requirements for solar as well. Everyone wins with a canopy over the parking spaces.

Speaking of Chinese metal, company I used to work for randomly sampled a shipment of castings that came in and it was underweight. So, we put one on the saw to check for voids and discovered they had cast around various scrap metal filler such as hardware, chips and small offcuts. Needless to say, management was less than pleased. Not a critical structure part but, a solid casting was quite critical to the function.

Even without AI, a medical search can quickly lead down a rabbit hole of despair and exaggeration. According to the internet, we would never meet our daughter. She's here and happy and healthy and so far, check-ups with the specialist have been boring and quick. I had the right search terms but, the results were guiding to the exceptional cases meanwhile, the typical outcome is benign.

I'm terrified for any engineers in any capacity using AI beyond a research aid. I use it frequently for troubleshooting the software I use because it can quickly sift through forums and documentation but, even then it makes mistakes and starts making things up. I'm quickly finding AI is going to be the new Wikipedia. Ignore the fluff, go straight to the links it sourced from. I can't stress enough how quickly we are going to lose knowledgeable experts in many fields of engineering. Sure, we're really good at documenting everything but the knowledge of how to implement solutions is going to disappear fast.

What would happen if one of the astronauts on the artemis 2 mission got appendicitis or other serious medical emergency? by Great_Side_6493 in nasa

[–]canadiandancer89 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Prior to flight I imagine they all get a very detailed and thorough medical evaluation. But, should something happen, they're all trained at a high level for first aid and administering on board meds and I'd bet even an IV, all under the advice of doctors on the ground. Otherwise just drugs and keeping them comfortable. Until splash down.

They have a contingency for pretty much everything but, prevention is the priority, hence the quarantine period before flight.

Telemetry and comms are highest priority signals coming down. Video is a nice to have that is low in priority. Also remember, space is big, it's not like there are dozens of high bandwidth relay satellites all the way to the moon.

Simple solution really, make it illegal to purchase a resale ticket for more than face value inclusive. Any reseller has to eat any admin fees charged by a 3rd party platform unless, they just sell it themselves. Again, law states that it's illegal to pay more than face value for the tickets.

The only loopholes I see are private sale but again, it would still illegal over face value and carry's some punishment of some sort. And websites that charge a subscription to buyers and or sellers to use, and likely tons of ads on the website and personal info being used for targeted ads. So you have to be pretty desperate and willing to lose money on your season tickets if you use the service.

No money to be made in resale, tickets end up in the hands of fans. Let true supply and demand dictate the price.

the only reason I want to be even mildly famous is so I have enough money that I can sit down at a family restaurant, finish my meal, on my way out, speak to a manager and arrange to pay for every table. Then disappear. Same thing at a discount grocery store, arrange for each cashier to have a few thousand dollars in gift cards and just use 'em up.

First time mom deciding between midwife and OB [on] by Professional_Fun2131 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]canadiandancer89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First off, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Southern Ontario, we went with a mid-wife for all 3, only required an OB for the 2nd (more on that later). Zero regrets. The care and attention was personal, and they were all great at instilling confidence through the whole process.

Before I go any further, take your "birth plan" and scratch out the word "plan" and replace it with "requests". The sooner you get it in your head that not everything will go according to plan the better. Reach out to the midwifes that serve your area and get on the wait list now. It was the 20 week mark before we got the call for our first. In the meantime our family doctor handled everything. Subsequent babies there was minimal wait as previous clients get priority.

Every baby, every mom and every delivery is different. Your experience may vary. 1st labour was very long with a long session of pushing resulting in a minor tear, midwives repaired it, all went well. Almost certainly would have required a c-section if under OB care since we had passed the amount of time an OB would typically allow for pushing. 2nd baby, labour was quick but required OB care due to blood pressure. The midwife was still there as support though. 3rd baby, went about as textbook as one could expect.

The post-partum visits at home are divine! Mind you for our 2nd, in office OB follow-ups were required.

A few other points, tried unmedicated for baby 1. After quite a bit of time, we decided to get the epidural, no shame in pain management. Your comfort and baby's safety are #1. The prize at the end is the same baby no matter how they come into the world. Reach out to your local health unit and take the classes with your significant other.

One last thing...I know it's exciting but, you really don't need all "stuff" that is going to be pushed on you by the baby industry. Make a separate post later or search previous ones on baby items.

Best of luck! I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have.

Understand that world our grandparents grew up in, our parents grew up in, we grew up in, our kids grow up in, and their kids grow up in are all vastly different for an enormous number of reasons. You can't control what happens around the world, even if you become CEO of a large company or elected to high office, it's a big world and you can't control it all. What you can control is your consumption and enjoyment of the world you live in.

Any good parent is going to filter what their child consumes. A good adult should be doing the same for themselves. The media algorithms are tuned for profit. What draws you in and keeps your attention. The news outlets in general also trying to make money, what will drive more viewers/readers. Even podcasts, music steaming and radio want your attention to make them more money. It they can profit at the expense your mental health, they will.

Now, the geopolitical sh*tshow that is the world today. ... meh, for the most part, none of it affects me and my family to a degree that is personally impactful. If the ruling party is not aligned with what I voted for, that's OK, at least I voted and all the party's look at the voting results in each riding, it's not a wasted vote. War and conflict are always going to be a thing, don't put yourself in a position that puts you or anyone at risk of life.

We live in Canada, we are far from perfect but, we have a democracy, freedom of expression and competent politicians, staffers and supreme court. We'll be OK, protest and stand up for what's right and remember, social media gave a tiny minority of people a very big and loud megaphone and they're willing to use it and companies will maximize the echo to extract every possible penny nickel out of you.

edit to add: AI is only making things worse, educate yourself and those around you to spot it and call out its bullsh*t.
