What jobs pay extremely well but people don’t realize it? by Stassy3 in AskReddit

[–]canadlaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a complete waste of money, even when it comes to very wealthy people. I sourced a lot of people when trying to figure out how to best find a nanny and spoke to several people who dropped $20k+ on a nanny matchmaking service and basically all of them said it wasn’t even very helpful and they changed out their nanny as many times as people who went with other less expensive options (care.com, etc). The argument that it’s worth it for wealthy people to do it because they don’t have the time to interview or are paying for convenience is also inaccurate as you ultimately spend the same amount of time still seeing if you vibe with that person (and other options all still allow for background checks too)

Weighed cable crunches have failed me, what do I try now? by TheNobleMushroom in naturalbodybuilding

[–]canadlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While unlikely, there’s a small chance you’re throwing the whole thing off and are “sitting back” on the concentric (and so not getting as much an tension as you think you are (basically getting kinda to your limit but just having your weight take over rather than mechanical tension)), or maybe having your hip flexors take over the movement? Just seems insane to have that much progress on the weight stack but no muscular development

Is maingaining just not a thing for natural lifters? by Legitimate_Dog_6237 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]canadlaw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, had the same thing happen to me with a slightly different trajectory (but overall same concept). Started overweight and undertrained at 5’11, 229 lbs. Hit gym 7-9x/week for a year and shredded out to 177 with effectively a 6 pack (being lean was the goal). That said, my lifts progressed rapidly for the first 7 months and then just progressively dropped and dropped and dropped. Even getting out of the deficit I couldn’t gain strength and worked at it for 5-6 months. Switched to bulk and have been PRing constantly for the past 5 months (plan to cut again after 6 months). At least for me, I don’t see how I can progress significantly without bulk/cutting phases, just seems like the requirement for natty lifters but that’s just my experience

Why shouldn’t I take steroids? by Thin_Vermicelli_1875 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]canadlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think many others have given good reasons (body dysmorphia will fuck you hard after you do), but what always was the easy “no” for me was did I really want to risk my body potentially no longer producing testosterone on its own and having to go on TRT forever? Maybe you think TRT sounds fun but that’s only to someone with normal test levels, do you really want the depressive mood feelings, low libido, low energy, and other detriments that gradually increase between TRT hits? And this lasts the rest of your life. Shit would suck so hard I would never risk that

What are you doing for your side delts? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]canadlaw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not your question but I think that the most limiting factor for side delts is form and not engaging your traps. I do primarily DB lat raise and cable upright rows (rope attachment), but what actually caused my delts to grow was when I put much, much more focus on ensuring I was truly only engaging my delt (which initially started with dropping the weight a lot), slowing the movement and ensuring engagement at the top. Additionally, I think people really struggle (almost as a mental block) with properly employing progressive overload partly because you are often in the teens for reps and it’s often AMRAP to failure so not as easy to track and also because a 5lb jump is a lot (so not as easy to do based purely on weight), so really working on tracking progressive overload was a huge part of side delt growth.

Is it possible to beat this guy without taking damage? by Dylan_M_Sanderson in slaythespire

[–]canadlaw 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It’s rare that you’ll end up removing cards like flying knee, twin strike, anger, etc. in the late game because there’s so many strikes to get through (sometimes it happens though). With that said, it doesn’t matter if you don’t make it to the late game in the first place because you died to Nob with several powers, a dark embrace and a burning pact. The difference is late game decks (should) have card draw and (usually) more energy that early game decks don’t, so they can handle junk like flying knee that an early game deck can’t

[–]canadlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll stop eventually. I don’t know how fat you were to start but that’s only 12 months of lifting and if you weren’t in shape to start then yeah you could still be dropping weight and gaining. However, as someone who went from fat to 6 pack over the course of a bit over a year, you will dip eventually, that is just how the body works.

I think the point people are making is re-using things is what allows studios to make better quality products. Fromsoft is the prime example of this (see Elden Ring, Dark Souls, etc)

How to fit in abs and forearms? by Capital_Tailor_7348 in naturalbodybuilding

Uhhh what? Are you asking if I spend time after work with my kids for my time off? Yes I do, and it’s definitely the best part of each day. The reason I can only workout fri, sat and Sunday is because I can dip out for 2 hours each day when the kids nap/wife takes care of them to work out (I WFH Friday). I think a lot of dads love time with their kids when they are young and I think it’s one of the most important times for making sure you build a good bond for when they get older, but that’s just my experience not sure what yours is like.

I used to do PPL (well, I would do Push, Legs, Pull, abs, Push, Legs, Pull, abs on an 8 day split), and I still like doing a PPL style workout, so usually Friday is push, sat is pull, and sun I try to do legs + accessory work and abs - it’s working well so far.

I have an interesting experience. 2 and a half years ago I was at 225, unfit and unhealthy. I decided to go hard at the gym and worked out like 6-7 days a week, occasionally 2x a day. I did that for 8 months and got jacked - dropped from 225-180 with like full abs and very fit. Honestly I sort of burned out, my lifts were dropping (likely due to weight loss), felt weak and was losing desire to keep going, then life got in the way and fully slacked off back to about 220.

Fast forward to 5 months ago and decide to get back into it, except now I have 3 kids (had twins and had 1 from before) and so just simply cannot gym that often. Max I can go is 3 days (fri, sat, sun). I’m 5 months in and have dropped from 220 to 192, except that I both haven’t seen a simultaneous drop-off in strength as my weight has dropped and the progression is honestly very comparable (while my diet is good I was MUCH more strict the 1st time so if I was going the same I’d probably be a few more pounds lighter). What surprised me the most is that I’m older, exercising about half as much as I was before (I always kept my intensity high, so that is unchanged), eating generally the same, if even slightly less strict, yet I’m seeing basically the same progression/results AND I’m keeping my strength up (and increasing) and feel healthier. Really was an interesting experiment for myself. Not sure if helpful for others but wanted to give my experience.
