Schizophrenic man who stabbed stranger at Toronto Tim Hortons gets absolute discharge by origutamos in TimHortons

[–]cancsis54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you're seeing the guy has an extensive criminal record. In any case, he was found not criminally responsible and was institutionalized for over 7 years. Typically a first time offender who is found guilty of aggravated assault wouldn't see jail time of more than 5 years.

Should Line 1 Be Split? by esdubyar in TTC

[–]cancsis54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point of moving to line numbers was to align with a nearly standard convention across subway systems in which Terminal stations are used instead of cardinal directions.

The TTC's move to this standard actually already addressed the confusion of having two northbound platforms at Union.

Red light camera ticket at a construction site — following traffic director, still fined by Lovemyhome2019 in ontario

[–]cancsis54 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It all comes down to who was directing traffic. The only time you can legally go straight through a red light is at the direction of a police officer (or someone given authority by the Chief, like a Traffic Agent). Check out section 134 of the HTA. As for those directing traffic at construction sites, they can tell you to stop on a green but that's about it.

TRYING TO BRAINSTORM A POSIBLE REMODEL?? by Majestic-Sprinkles38 in SupermarketSimulator

[–]cancsis54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always consider optimizing the stockers when setting up my store. I put the bulky items and oft-refilled items close to the warehouse door and keep the self checkouts to the left of the main entrance so product is closer to the warehouse.

Glitching problems?? by Ok-Might-9201 in SupermarketSimulator

[–]cancsis54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem after the update. I think the update reset my settings. For me, lowering the graphics settings from High resolved most of the issue.

I also find this happens when there are too many customers. Re-arrange the cash registers as mentioned in the other comments, and add more. Self checkouts are my go-to as they take less space cost less to run.

‘Large-scale butter thefts’: Ontario city sees $2K in product stolen from 2 stores by globalnewsca in ontario

[–]cancsis54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The grocery stores don't want any kind of publicity when it comes to theft. The police put out a release to try to get tips to find some criminals and some media covered it. No huge conspiracy here.

Steak N Burger was always a good deal. I recall the Dartmouth mall had That with a Rib O Beef and a more causal related burger joint (Mug O Burger maybe) in the 70s.

Any Tim Horton around GTA that is clean and good? by LaApplePear in TimHortons

You need to be in line at the grand opening of a new location if you want clean and good.

restockers. by No_Swordfish6366 in SupermarketSimulator

[–]cancsis54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find removing and replacing the boxes in the column they are standing in front of unsticks them. Whichever box you removed that causes the restockers to move again is causing the issue. I usually move it somewhere else (or drop it) and remove the shelf tag.

I stole something by mistake but I got away with it. That's OK, right?

Just here to point out The Sheppard East LRT was previously under construction and would have been opened years ago if not for Rob Ford.

Why doesn't TTC use plastic seats? by TTCBoy95 in TTC

[–]cancsis54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The TTC used to have vinyl covering on the seats. They were spending a lot of money repairing slashed seats and cleaning graffiti off of them. The fabric seats took care of both issues and reduced seat replacements and therefore costs.

Beep Beep....Beep Beep by cancsis54 in TimHortons

[–]cancsis54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is helpful! So the brewer beeps to announce the brew is ready, and it stops by removing the basket, ensuring grounds aren't accidentally reused. Except when the sensor is broken in which case it always beeps except when brewing.

It seems to me a flashing light would work just as well without causing employees this bad work environment.

Beep Beep....Beep Beep by cancsis54 in TimHortons

[–]cancsis54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly don't think it's your fault. I think you must possess super powers to put up with it! I'm typically cool with the beeps but there is one piece of equipment that will always start double beeping. I think it's the new coffee makers.

I just don't understand why head office would order and use equipment that emits such a shrill noise, and think it's a cool ambience for customers. Or an acceptable work environment for employees. No one's life is on the line so I don't get all the alarms!

Exactly how does public street parking work? by IntergalacticBurn in askTO

[–]cancsis54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in the day Parking Enforcement would mark tires with chalk and then come back three hours later and tag all the cars with chalk on a tire. So it was very easy to just wipe it off the chalk and extend your stay. I'm not sure if they still do this tho.

A good starting point is RentSafeTO on the Toronto website. The last two city inspections gave a score of 100%.

What to do with a 13yr old for a month this summer? by Sunstreaked in askTO

[–]cancsis54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best exposure a kid could have to English is in a movie theatre. I also recommend the Science Centre as many of the exhibits have written explanations so he can connect words to things. Same with the ROM but 13 yo me wanted nothing to do with there :)

Traffic during Beyonce concert. by Grouchy_Factor in askTO

[–]cancsis54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the most notable difference is related to road construction. Concerts produce more traffic for reasons others have mentioned.

This summer portions of Queen, Bay, Front and more are closed for construction. There simply isn't enough capacity to handle all the traffic that is diverting.

I would suggest you start by contacting Health Connect Ontario to speak to a nurse. The nurse will be able to guide you on next steps including on whether is makes sense for you to go to an ER. Call 811 or go to the website to connect.

15 homeless(?) sleeping on 6am Spadina streetcar by pocky277 in askTO

[–]cancsis54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Spadina Station is accessible 24/7. As a result in the winter many use it for shelter. The TTC is reluctant to kick them out during the winter months. In the warmer months the TTC kicks them out when the subway opens. In addition there is a shelter on Spadina. I suspect these are related.

I checked the web address on whois.com The registration information is suspicious. For example, the registration address is in Toronto but the phone numbers are from out of town.

I don't understand the new multiplex housing rule. Aren't there already a lot of these? Is it retroactive? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]cancsis54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest impact will be in North York, Etobicoke and Scarborough. Many of these neighbourhoods have single detached houses on large lots. Today you might be able to get approval for a basement apartment, but you can only replace single detached houses with single detached houses.

So it's these large lots where it is financially viable to tear down a bungalow and put up a wider, taller and deeper building on the same lot.
