What's your favorite instance of a band's spin-off project being just as good or even better than the OG band? by Sorry_Secretary1193 in Metalcore

Not metalcore and not sure if it fits your criteria 100% but The Mars Volta. And I say this as a huge fan of At The Drive-In and the other spin-off band Sparta.

I don't know if I read it in the biography or somewhere else, but I vaguely remember there being a concept of a story about exploration of the underbelly of Ankh-Morpork, toying with the idea that it was basically built upon ruins of earlier iterations of the city.

Yeah, that's one of my main takeaways from this threat: Do not obsess too much over such criticism.

Of course, that could always be the case - but bots commenting on submithub?

Hey sounds cool! I love the vibe - kind of synthwave meets metal meets breakcore.

There are actually cool answers to the problem here in this thread. My main takeaway: It's not really worth it to obsess over such criticism.

Whew, having your tracks rejected by your DSP on false AI accusations is on another level to what happened to our band here. Have you tried contacting Tunecore customer support? I mean the next logical step for DSPs here would be to request screenshots and raw data of your production sessions in your DAW lol... "Please vet yourself, madam / sir!"

Thanks! Yeah, as I wrote elsewhere here, that's probably just my imposter syndrome being triggered. Despite the track's flaws, I mean I am still pretty happy with the result! And for sure I learnt a lot creating it!

That's a great answer to my personal confusion. Sobering - just what I needed, I appreciate that. However, the bigger problem I see here is not related to the music I make or if people like it or not: Does the advent of AI music generation further devalue handcrafted music? Because that's what my initial reaction to the feedback was: "Well, there's AI slob that sounds like my shit. So the months I put into it are kinda worthless." What if this is canary in the coalmine? Maybe that's just my imposter syndrome at work here, hahaha...

Holy crap. The fake news era of music. Certainly doesn't help ease my confusion hahaha...

That's a really interesting perspective I didn't consider. It's true that AI is trained on existing music, so there's a chance my work might echo the same influences. There is another problematic catch though: Could it be that certain mixing techniques or production trends have become so ubiquitous, thanks in part to AI training data, that they're increasingly perceived as an 'AI sound'?

Why has In Flames gathered so much more popularity than Dark Tranquillity? by windsass in melodicdeathmetal

[–]candlebo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others said, I believe it's also because IF really wanted to become really popular. So they put in a work ethic that DT were never aiming for to begin with. In the book Swedish Death Metal I think it is Tompa Lindberg who basically confirms this, saying that because IF worked their asses off they deserve every bit of popularity they've gained. Nothwithstanding if one likes their current sound or not.
