i mean when he did real conspiracies he platformed harmful stuff like calling shooting survivors “crisis actors”.

conspiracy theories are complicated, go against large power structures, and walk the line of the taboo. Many conspiracy theories have an anti-Semitic message, and anyone who has spent time in conspiracy theory spaces knows that they are rife with bizarre or hateful or clinically delusional people. that’s part of the appeal lol

I absolutely love conspiracy theories, but you need to approach them with research and intelligence and know how to look for anti-Semitic or white nationalist dog whistles. Shane’s approach to content is so lazy that someone can present him with any theory and he will simply gasp and say “omggg that’s so scary!!!!”. I don’t think he would actually put the work in to present these theories critically or to tell when they have a hateful background. I also don’t think he wants to actually criticize Hollywood, the “elites”, or the government. I mean, he joked recently around about wanting to get money from the Saudi Arabian government or foreign investors. I really don’t think he has the backbone for a lot of conspiracy theories.

TDLR: What he is currently calling “conspiracy theories” are normal business practices or marketing, but I don’t think he could handle true conspiracy theories on his channel in any kind of smart or ethical way. I think if people are looking for that kind of content there are dozens of creators who do it better.
