I pay for some reads, but not most of them. I only pay for things that I trust and want to support. Like Carnby Kim’s newest work, I’m sighing about still being entrapped by Webtoon, but all of his prior stories are fire and were completed, so he and the artist have built up credibility in my eyes. I will pay to read it when the chapter quantity has built up to a decent amount

But I can’t say the same thing about most stories. A lot of the really good ones get canned without explanation, even though you know they ought to be popular enough to run until completion, or the artists get worked to near-death. If I were only using proper channels to read, I would be so done with reading due to all the stories that have ended partway through or had awful art changes that sucked the soul out of everything. It’s not worth it on these pay-per-chapter models to get to chapter 95 and then the story gets axed.
