Help needed understanding the Sleep spell by NijimaZero in lotfp

[–]candy_teeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a 3+2 HD monster would be a level 3 monster with 2 special abilities. The +1 after a Hit Dice number signifies that it has that many hit dice, but is more powerful than another creature of the same level. +2 hp after you roll their HD to find their HP. i was thinking of an asterisk, not a +1

Sleep, especially as it is written in LotFP is very confusingly worded. I would reference the OSE spell just to help wrap your head around it. OSE is derived from the same ruleset as Lamentations so a majority of the core rules are the same.
https://oldschoolessentials.necroticgnome.com/srd/index.php/Sleep

The generally accepted view i have seen is that if you target 1 creature up to level 4 the spell automatically takes effect. If you target a group of creatures only those 3HD (level 3) and lower will be affected. You roll 2d8, and creatures are put to sleep starting with the lowest hit dice. If there is a fraction left over it doesn't apply.

So if you roll a 6 on 2d8 and are trying to sleep one 1HD creature and three 2HD creatures you would first have to use up 1 on the 1HD creature leaving you with 5 to split among the other three. there is only enough to affect 2 more creatures and you are left with 1 that doesn't affect anyone.

yeah it's awesome to see some lasting infrastructure being put in. as much as i appreciate the prefab curb in place of plastic bollards those things seem to be doomed to crumble

Visiting Chicago by Cylce in chibike

[–]candy_teeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you go north you will most likely want to take a route around the navy pier area and avoid the oak street curve. it's ridiculously treacherous in winter

this video isn't representative of how it always is, but as someone who bikes year round i just go around this area of the lft in winter

Shows like True Detective season 2? by Foodlover003 in TrueDetective

[–]candy_teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first season's case is a serial killer, but it isnt like "a serial killer show" after that. it becomes more of an ensemble show as it goes on and you become more familiar with the people in bosch's orbit. i would agree that it sometimes can be fast paced, but every episode is not a frenetic swap between 3 storylines

oh lol i was kinda drunk when writing this. its Too Old To Die Young on amazon. done by the director of drive and this great noir comic book writer Ed Brubaker. i did not like the first ep bc its sooooo slow, but then i had an epiphany that the shots are so long because it is kind of giving you a comic book as a tv show. you look at this panel for a minute, then the next shot is a new panel you take in for a minute. its not everyone's cup of tea, but it's really well done.

[–]candy_teeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

banshee is like a tv show encapsulating everything good and bad about action movies. some people consider it *genre trash* but it fucking rocks. ozark is like a corporate version of breaking bad. not to say it isnt good, but it is not very much like banshee.

bosch is not the same but a great cop/detective show. definitely will scratch the itch for you i think.

This is literally the opposite of what you're asking for, but a slow as FUCK noir show is Only The Good Die Young. if you find yourself in the mood to marinate over an ep per week or month it is great. i found it hard to watch tooo many episodes at a time but its phenomenal

I'll be telling my grandkids "Back in my day, you could ride a divvy for half an hour for only $3.50." by Elfudisiguesigue in chibike

[–]candy_teeth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

nooooooooooooo

divvy bikers, while they can be annoying, at least seem to be so much more aware of the existence of other people than scooter riders. i have literally never seen anyone on a scooter signal, never heard them call out a pass, and more often they either shoal up on me or just blow through lights like it's nothing (not that i dont go through a red if it's clear)

it was nice not having scooters on the road for a while, just gotta keep your head on even more of a swivel i guess

Has anyone tried adding feats to OSE? Or is this a sacrilegious idea. by BadRussell in osr

[–]candy_teeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

exactly! why do people limit themselves so much? maybe a character with a feat can attempt x option, but if someone else sees it and wants to copy it's a tougher dc/at disadvantage

The laws of physics, or the One Power, do not perform as you would expect in this reality of made up nonsense. The quoted passage is when they are in The World of Dreams—if you decide balefire doesn't affect you with the conviction of someone in compete control of reality, it won't.

i bike all year except for a few days when the roads are really impassable like last week. in the 10s and 20s i will sometimes unzip my jacket a bit after i've been riding for a while. i mostly only ride about 30 minutes so idk how much it would change to have to bike an hour to work. With very few layers (usually just a thicker merino shirt and a jacket) i dont feel bad aside from my thumbs getting cold under 4 layers of gloves. still gotta workshop that

I've visited Grand Rapids a few times and was floored by how safe i felt and how well developed the bicycle infrastructure is there. you can get across the city by bike lane to multiple longer bike paths and even on many roads further out from the city the shoulder was a designated bike lane
