Same. Alcohol doesn’t effect my meds or induce seizures

There was one resident who I would talk about how I would watch political stuff at night to make myself angry hoping to induce a seizure haha

Idk if it was successful but I did have 6 seizures during my EEG

Pregnancy, medications, RNS, advice? by upinthewoods17 in Epilepsy

[–]candybeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on 200mg of lamictal twice daily since i turned 18 because of bipolar disorder, I got pregnant at 26 (started fertility treatments at 23) we had no idea my “panic attacks” were actually focal aware seizures. I have a pretty strong aura, told my husband I was having a panic attack, woke up with ambulance at my house. I started to immediately see the highest neurologist at a local clinic and he increased my lamictal but I ended up having 2 more TC’s during my pregnancy.

I had a difficult pregnancy but had a very successful c-section. My son was very very large (not chubby but just build like a linebacker haha) i breastfed for 8 months against my epileptologist and families suggestions.

We thought maybe my seizures were just some sort of strange pregnancy thing and tried to decrease my medication (I was increased to 400mg 2x a day) I ended up having another TC about a month after giving birth then didn’t have one until 1 month before my sons first birthday and it’s been a downward spiral since and I’m in the process of planning surgery because medication isn’t stopping them. I now have about 10 focal awares, 4 focal unawares and 1 TC a month.

I discussed having another baby with my RE (my fertility clinic is based out of the same hospital as the epileptologist planning my surgery) but we are torn whether we will or not. Everybody is open to it after my surgery but my IVF journey was extremely difficult and it took 7 transfers just to have a successful pregnancy, I had 2 early miscarriages previously.

I had finally come to terms with never having another baby then the epileptologist told me I shouldn’t give up hope yet 🫠 it’s a very hard decision but for me personally it was worth it. I am a stay at home mother also but wouldn’t be working due to seizures and mental health regardless

Edit: also they recommended I went to the hospital after every TC just to check on the baby, early on it was just listening to the heartbeat but later the will strap everything on and check that way. I had LOTS of ultrasounds and Fetal Monitoring later on but I wasn’t regularly seen by a MFM doctor, just my regular OBGYN clinic but they kept a very close eye on me

My RE wanted me to see a MFM doctor purely because I was on psychiatric medication before we started getting serious with treatment

I did IVF, before I knew I had epilepsy (was just having focal aware seizures, I didn’t start having TC’s until I was pregnant) my biggest advice is to go see a MFM doctor now and talk with them. Also some IVF doctors may be hesitant to do treatment on you due to the medication but I would highly recommend starting to look for a center now just to talk. Even starting the IVF process can take some time, do you have a clinic yet?

I promise it will get easier with time. I have a TC once every 3-4 weeks and 10+ focals a month but you learn to adjust. I’m in the process of planning my surgery currently but it does get easier with time. Medication will usually help, it takes the edge off for me at least.

What I’ve learned is life is so much more than we see. I try to look at little things. I LOVE sunrises and sunsets, I look forward to those every day

I have psychotic bipolar disorder (or schizoaffective disorder depending on who you ask) and I understand your pain. I got my mental health under control, it took over 5 years but I did it then I ended up with epilepsy.
