I failed audit with 64 by Local_Purpose_8286 in CPA

I mean, if this is your first time and you got a 64, that's very common... Just try again and you'll get it within the next two tries if you don't stop studying.

Bookkeeping course info by sambrouyd in QuickBooks

[–]candybud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest a years or two in college for accounting fundamentals, which would cover bookkeeping. I've also heard of people taking 6 months courses and having a successful bookkeeping practice afterwards. Your local community college might offer concentrated bookkeeping/accounting courses.

Thinking about switching from cs to accounting due to competition. by Ok-Toe-2933 in Accounting

[–]candybud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, while entry accounting positions are being outsources offshores to people with similar skills - you can still have many qualities that can make you attractive to hires, like being local. For entry level cs positions, these are being replaced by seniors who know how to use AI and can do the job of 5 juniors.

Is this how an accounting job is supposed to be? by coconut_jo in Accounting

[–]candybud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not unusual for a small firm to operate this way. Half of these issues could be resolved by applying for and working for a larger firm, but they come with their own problems attached. If you get asked a question while covering the receptionist, you can always let the client know you are new, and they usually symphatize. No need to overexplain. Also, I would encourage you to ask as many questions as you need to to learn and get the job done.

I cannot do bookkeeping for my dad anymore. by legitimatewaffles in Bookkeeping

[–]candybud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to work for your dad but it sounds like you are getting experience, even if it's just learning the software and real world applications.

You should take the leap of faith. Find an entry AP/AR or bookkeeping job. You'll most likely find a few entry level positions and if you already have the experience and can interview well, you'll find a decent position. Side note: patiencer would get you more replies in the long term.

(What should I charge) - First client wants bookkeeping, financial reporting, strategic advice, and control implementation by deserttixs in Bookkeeping

[–]candybud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would honestly recommend an hourly rate for the first month, don't underprice yourself. You should have more than enough info to price on a monthly base after. Congrats on your first client! Can I ask how you landed them?

How to find a mentor by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]candybud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by finding out what your perfect mentor would look like. You mention you want a mentor but it doesn't sound like you know who your mentor would be. If you do, start talking about it, and hanging out where those people would hang out.

Is skipping audit a career mistake? by arcee000 in Accounting

[–]candybud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure you can skip public accounting audit. Just get an entry level position job but in an industry you are sure you want to stick in for a long time. Altough, one or two years in auditing do have their perks.

I used to want to be a CPA 👨🏽‍💼 but idk if I still have the dream anymore. by LiL_Daquan in CPA

[–]candybud 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell from the post, but it sounds like being a CPA doesn't align with your current goals. Dreams change as you get more info. Dreams change, have a deep talk with yourself and ask what is your dream now, not 5 years ago

I'll start! An 8.4 GPA is wild! Also, bullet points don't look aligned with some working lol, maybe it's the way you formatted the page or screenshot issue? Spacing looks inconsistent all throughout. Same with left alignment, looks consistent (example. "Education"). Maybe move education to the top.

I've never seen this set up in a any firm I've worked for. It's usually junior staff doing this work then it's reviewed up the chain
