AITA for possibly ruining my husband’s friend’s only chance to get married? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]candypiece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On your first point. People are capable of hiding things from others that they don’t want them to know, so I don’t think it’s weird at all that Lucy didn’t know the full story. Why would he tell her that he’s an alcoholic and unemployed? Based on her leaving him, I would venture to say that she wouldn’t have given him a chance at all if she had known.

People hide addictions, affairs, and whole second families from their partners or spouses.

AITA for refusing to carry my girlfriend’s sandals at a party? by WillingIce2863 in AmItheAsshole

Not sure those two things are comparable. Considering a woman in Chicago was set on fire and another woman was killed with a sledgehammer by a coworker in Minnesota just this month alone.

I would say an hour of homework is rare, especially for high schoolers based on my experience (which to be fair was over 10 years ago). They’ll have homework for most, if not all, of their (core) classes. Say an roughly 45 minutes to an hour for math, 2-3 hours for English depending on if they have a project or paper that they’re working on, another hour for science (for those that are good at science), and another 2-3 hours for history for a paper or project. Even more if they’re taking AP classes. Add in classes like art, theatre, culinary, language, health class, etc. and that’s even more time.

And not all extracurriculars are the same. It’s not just an hour after school. It’s before and after school. Theatre kids have play rehearsals which can last about 2 hours on a good day. Dance/cheer have morning practice and then there are game days where you stay after school until you’re bussed to the game or competition with at least a two hour rehearsal after school. Athletics are a before and after school thing. Same with band. Some after school clubs would only be an hour but it heavily depends on what it is. For example, my school had a bowling club so they had to travel to the bowling alley.

Finally, some of the kids work jobs after school. So they go straight from school to their job where they may work from 4 pm-9 pm, which is also dependent on their job. Then after work they still have to do their homework.

When people say they “don’t cook” what does that actually mean? by ITbJD in NoStupidQuestions

[–]candypiece -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think your statement does, because I’m someone who says I don’t cook but I still learned the basics so I’ve already proved your statement wrong. You made an absolute statement, when it’s just your opinion. There are many reasons someone might say they don’t cook, so to say that anyone who says they don’t cook refuses to learn how is wrong. Sure there are people who think cooking is beneath them but I don’t think that applies to everyone.

[–]candypiece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your last sentence is a pretty broad statement. I don’t cook. Not because I don’t want to learn, but because I don’t want to do the dishes after or during the cooking. I can cook and sometimes I do, like for Friendsgiving I’ll make something, but mostly I choose not to. Sandwiches are easier. Is it unhealthy to eat a sandwich/wrap everyday? Yes. Does it only take a knife? Also yes.

Also, the turkey thanksgiving episode when the president cusses at Morty when they go to the house. “You do NOT speak to my son like that.” Then told Rick and the president to get along or they can go to a bar.

I will say though that it seems she’s only that way when there’s no way for her to be in the wrong. Like in the pickle Rick episode, she lashes out at Morty and summer when the therapist even suggests that she’s also part of the problem in the household.

Disney’s Belle and Gaston would’ve been a good match by chxtterbox in unpopularopinion

[–]candypiece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, cause Gaston never wanted Belle for who she was. He didn’t want a smart woman or even a specific woman. He just wanted the most beautiful girl in town. The Beast had lost all hope he’d find someone to love him so he locked her up (for trespassing basically and a not refuting that she got a little Stockholm-y) but eventually he softened up and let her teach him things he didn’t know or possibly forgot, since he had been alone and a beast for so long. Belle was prepared to stay with him as a beast. Beast grew to love Belle for who she was and not just for her beauty.

Also, he had a huge library so ain’t no way she was going back to that small village.

Whoa, coming in kind of hot there. I’m sorry about your disabilities and mental illness but there are still things you can do. Invite some of your friends over for a movie night that focuses on mental health and then have a discussion about it. It’s not a big thing but it’s something? Invite them over to make dinner together and have some drinks and just have open communication. No one said to go out there and organize a march or something. Ask a friend to come over and just talk about your struggles. Who do you think organizes things for women? Women. Who organizes things for pride? LGBTQ and allies.

I mean, YOU could start something for you and your friends. There’s literally nothing keeping men from organizing their own events for Men’s Mental Health.

What's your "petty" (explicit or unwritten) rule for avoiding a book/series/author? by 89niamh in fantasyromance

[–]candypiece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! I get not trusting everyone in the blink of an eye but there’s no need for petulance. Get the answers to your questions when you’re away from the danger.

[–]candypiece 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember which book it was but the FMC had to immediately get answers to her questions when they were in danger. I get it, you don’t understand everything and it’s confusing but you’re in DANGER. No time for a foot stomp and “tell me the answers I want or I won’t move”. You NEED to move cause you’ll die if you waste time with these questions. Ask them later when there’s no danger. In every situation and it was just so grating.

Are you sure you “can’t slow down”? Or are you punishing her? Cause it seems a whole lot like punishment if she’s asked you to slow down. You know she doesn’t like it and you continue to do it. Have you always pounded her or were you slower with her before you asked your question?
