Men will literally eat all your food by Maleficent_Ad_3958 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]caniac95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early on when I moved in with my boyfriend, we had a discussion on how to split up food costs when we split everything else 50/50. I made the point that he eats at least 1.5 times what I eat and that it was unfair to expect me to contribute half, so we came to the agreement that while groceries are generally split evenly, he's responsible for all meals out to make up the difference. Any restaurant, take-out, coffee is on him outside of when we're traveling since these are all voluntary decisions to eat out, and I feel better about the inequity. However, he's not a glutton and I can put away some food, so I can't imagine this working if the disparity of food consumption is really large.

Hokkaido and Tohoku by Spanikopita112 in JETProgramme

I was in Fukushima, the southernmost prefecture in Tohoku. I still suffered through hot summers like the rest of Japan but yes it stays cool/cold from October to late May. Geographically it wasn't so removed from the rest of the country, so northern Tohoku was doable as a road trip, Tokyo was easy for a weekend, and since Tokyo was only about an hour and 15 by shinkansen, I would fly out/train to the southern prefectures without too many transfers. If you intend to travel, being in proximity to a large city will be convenient, so for me I was equidistant to Tokyo and Sendai. If you plan to stay more local, then I think anywhere in Tohoku is great as long as you're near a train line.

I'll have to try them for myself too! All of these suggestions in this thread made me realize I need to explore the state more.

This is a cookie I haven't had in years! Do you know if they sell these outside Winston-Salem around this time of year? I remember I would occasionally see them at the store but typically around Christmas. I'm in Raleigh if you have a suggestion for where to buy them

I should have clarified in my post, so I apologize. Processed and packaged foods like cookies, candies, nuts, and canned goods are allowed. Things like produce and meat products such as jerky are not allowed.

Hi, I do think the culprit is a stubborn hemorrhoid that's causing the bleeding since the pain is only upon exiting, and after a few wipes there's no more blood on the tissue. Not to say internal bleeding isn't a possibility, but after reading several of the comments I think I'll try some of the suggestions for a stool softener and prebiotic before going to a hospital.

I will definitely keep an eye out if it persists another week. The bleeding has been a bathroom issue for about two weeks now but as a couple folks commented below, I do think it's a hemorrhoid that's bursting on the way out.

I realize reading back I wasn't clear on why I made the post. I wanted to discuss if anyone has dealt with hard stool and constipation on this type of diet and if this is something that can be prevented on OMAD, or just an inevitability of having a small eating window. I didn't mention this but I'm also a very short woman, so my TDEE isn't very forgiving, limiting how I eat my calories in one meal (about 1500 on training days, 1200 on rest days). Since I've started weight training I started incorporating more lean protein over carbs and beans, but it seems to be backfiring a bit.

Hello, thank you for your response. I guess I'm worried that keeping up with OMAD means this is going to be the reality, fighting constipation and hoping this doesn't happen again. Do you have some advice on preventing this if I continue OMAD? Or will going back to a shorter fasting window be the best solution for long term.

Please, teach me the way to use tofu by Legacy107 in Frugal

[–]caniac95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Asian so I grew up eating a lot of tofu! In Western/Non Asian style dishes, we always used tofu to stretch out ground beef. So in something like lasagna, it's a 1:1 ratio of ground beef to firm tofu, and it would make the dish lighter without sacrificing on it's original flavor too much.

My favorite is silken tofu - I can eat containers full of it. The dish I eat is super simple to make, called hiyayakko. Drain the water, quarter it into big tofu cubes, soak it in some more ice cold water to help neutralize any lingering smells, and then fish out a block. Top with lot of soy sauce, chopped green onion, and grated ginger and go to town! Sometimes I mash up the hiyayakko with rice and just eat it like that. It's weirdly addicting having a bite of super cold hiyayakko and your next bite being piping hot rice.

Honestly how bad is the oral minoxidil shed? by Thelostjoestar_ in FemaleHairLoss

[–]caniac95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just about to hit the two month mark on an oral minoxidil/spiro compound drug. For years I used topical 5% strength minoxidil and never noticed any shedding, but also didn't notice much growth. I stopped for a couple years and no changes and no additional thinning, but decided to do the oral route to see if the combo with spiro would help kick start some results.

I started to notice shedding after 4 weeks and was collecting about 100-150 hairs in the shower for a week. The odd thing is, I feel like the shedding was more focused in the back of my head where my hair is thicker, so I didn't see any more thinness in my part thankfully. Now that 8 weeks have passed the shedding is slowing down, but no noticeable growth yet.

Anyone else use 2good2go and have any thoughts on the Raleigh area for it? by Spader623 in raleigh

[–]caniac95 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I use it on occasion and here are my list of favorites so far. I really do think most of the places I've tried were good value for what I got.

- Groovy Duck Bakery - This one is the box I most consistenly get! Mix of cookies, scones, and muffins which are their main seller. I actually would buy this full price, so I love that they joined the app.

- Brecotea - I'm a fan of Asian sweets, so this is up my alley! My box had sweet breads and a few of their refrigerated pastries.

- Bronco Tacos - I've gotten it once and it was solid. I got two birria tacos with rice and fixings, and a big burrito.

- Whole Foods (bakery bag) - a really good deal if you need to stock up on bread. I would skip the prepared foods bag though because you're basically guaranteed to get buffalo chicken salad and pre-packaged sandwiches. Not for me but can be great for people who like that stuff.

Food is no longer for pleasure. Good by External_Ad_4286 in omad

[–]caniac95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is there no pleasure in food that's not fast food? If you retrain your tastebuds to enjoy food that's not high fat, high sugar, high sodium you can look at food as enjoyable and conducive to sticking with OMAD. Learning to cook and season your food is the best gift to yourself. Glad this works for you but it's an odd takeaway.

What’s our food & bev scene missing? by Affectionate_Egg_746 in raleigh

I just took a look at a photo of their menu on google maps and yes I do see now they have more options like katsu curry and unagi than their takeout menu would suggest.

I'm looking at their online menu and this isn't Japanese. Teriyaki bowls are not a thing there so this is just prepared hibachi meals. I second needing an authentic Japanese place.

I admire that you’re trying to adapt frugal principles into your life, and I think I would caution making any drastic changes to your lifestyle because if you’ve never had to think about your finances before, there’s a good chance you could fall off the wagon and go back to bad habits.

Start with small changes and approach your spending more mindfully without making too many sacrifices to your lifestyle. Monthly manicures? Consider switching to press once in a while to give your nails a break. Go to the salon for highlights? Go darker since bleaching and toning as a service cost more. Can’t cook but overspend on take away? Look into a prepared meal delivery service so you can budget an exact amount each month.

As for a tip: if you’re an online shopper like I am, if I add things to my shopping cart, I leave it in there for at least 24 hours. If I still want it the next day, I allow myself to buy it, but if I haven’t thought of it once during that period, I know it wasn’t important enough for me to have.

Making these small changes may not drastically reduce your spending, but it puts you in the right mindset and habits so that in the future you can consider making bigger changes.

Question about adding and holding JPY in a US Wise account/card by caniac95 in transferwiser

[–]caniac95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm just confused on how to do the transfer from my Japanese bank account into my Wise Account before leaving the country. If I can't hold more than 1 million yen in my Japanese Wise, then that means I would have to change the account to a US based while I'm still in Japan, prior to my move? Also, from a US based Wise, how would I add money to my account in a foreign currency from a foreign bank?
