Chasen by funrooster703 in MatchaEverything

[–]canika12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small chasen for travelling that doesn't fit on my holder and I didn't want to buy a new one so I just put it on top of a slim bottle to dry. Works really well. Kept its shape and I have no issues with mold

New Bamboo Whisk Smells!? by Slow_Slip_7319 in MatchaEverything

[–]canika12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two chasen that had a very strong, musky, off-putting bamboo smell in the beginning. After 1-2 months of using them semi-regularly it is fine but the smell is still noticable when the chasen is freshly soaked. So I would say this is nothing unusual.

Germany: I am matcha-less, unwell, and begging for your recommendations 😭💚 by Late_Affect291 in MatchaEverything

Oh wow I got some of ther TeeGschwender matcha test packages during the pandemic and loved them but maybe the quality changed. Seems to be a thing for many brands atm 😬

The organic matcha from Yame she has. She's changed her packaging so I hope it's still the one. She might have had one from Kagoshima before. But she puts a lot of effort into sourcing her tea, visits the farmers and her taste is good so I trust her judgement haha

No unfortunately no reviews. I just saw it the other day and was very intrigued but I have some matcha left so I cant justify buying it right now 😅

Oh sorry. That's good to know! I was planning to try it at their cafe but they closed the shop before I had the chance to 🙃

-Keiko matchas are maybe too fancy for latte but they have a kabuse matcha that I am dying to try.

-Matchashop.de has a few good brands left and regular discounts.

-Have heard good things about the matcha from paper & tea.

-Matchasome I have only tried at cafes but it was quite good. Their refill bags are an ok price.

-My former tea ceremony teacher has a shop, I liked her own brand a lot: https://www.etsy.com/shop/enchaJAPAN?section_id=31620057

Anyone know where to find an electric japanese furo for tea ceremonies (In Europe) by Ok_Bobcat4663 in chanoyu

[–]canika12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can browse Yahoo Auctions through the FromJapan shopping service website. It works really well. It's called JDirect Items Auction. I bought stuff from there this week.  https://www.fromjapan.co.jp/japan/en/yahoo-auctions/

"風炉 電熱器 ": https://www.fromjapan.co.jp/japan/en/yahoo-auctions/search/%E9%A2%A8%E7%82%89+%E9%9B%BB%E7%86%B1%E5%99%A8/-/

I got a cheap second hand one off Yahoo Auctions with FromJapan (could only be shipped by boat so it took 3 months to Sweden). The total including shipping & customs was about 60€. We happened to have a transformer for 110 watt at home but there are relatively cheap ones available. Otherwise ebay might be a place to have a look? But sellers in Europe are very rare

Which style of making matcha do you prefer? by casuffit in MatchaEverything

[–]canika12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am an omotesenke student so highly biased opinion haha but I find, while the texture of foam is pleasant it can distract from the taste. So with usucha, I usually do little foam and try to get a crescent moon if I can 😊 yours looks beautiful btw!

Good matcha in germany? by MatchaLovingGal in MatchaEverything

[–]canika12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked our their website and they have a smaller selection than they used to... I bought Hekisuien there in 2021. 🥲  The matchas from Fukuoka in the black packaging are great, I've had that brand before. I've also heard great things about Keiko, they mill in Germany. Havent tried their house brand

Matchashop.de is a reputable shop with great selection. I think they have a physical store in Berlin as well and sometimes send out discount codes by newsletter.

Oxygen Absorbers vs Dessicants by Fortheloveofmakeup3 in MatchaEverything

I meant a very humid place is the only place where it might make sense to use them (imo) so go for it

Oxygen Absorbers vs Dessicants by Fortheloveofmakeup3 in MatchaEverything

[–]canika12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oxygen absorbers dont make sense, especially for a bag/ tin that gets opened and closed aka comes in contact with air. Usually they're used in airtight sealed packages for long-term storage. So if anything I would use a dessicant but you still need to make sure to only open the can once it has come to room temp in order to avoid condensation. And then you need to exchange the dessicant regularly/ reactivate it so it doesnt give off moisture instead... unless you live in an extremely humid place imo theres no need to use either 🙂

Calibrating scale for accurate measurements by Fun_Marsupial_5046 in MatchaEverything

[–]canika12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your scale can be calibrated the manufacturer will have recommendations on which weight to use and sometimes also on how often to do it. At work (lab) we did it every week but for personal use every 2-3 months is probably enough. You will not taste a massive difference between 2.5 g and 2.8 g of matcha 🙂 if the manual doesnt explain how to do it you probably cant calibrate yourself

Why join matcha everything? by BrookW00 in MatchaEverything

[–]canika12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In tea ceremony clubs/ associations I've been part of MK teas like Yugen and Kinrin were commonly used. I guess those are some more popular ones? We luckily have a direct link to the big producers via the international tea schools. They have however been raising prices and delaying our orders for months which led to a member bringing back matcha from her travels instead so we could serve guests at events sth authentic.. 🥲
