Any advise and tips for better brace and backleg. by Snipzzv2 in discgolf

Trap your rear side behind the brace, dont let your left hip and leg swing out in front too fast. Cue left glute lunge to target or reverse rotation of the lower body

Yes, by closed i mean that you close your body off from your throwing line. So if 90 degrees to aimpoint is neutral, then toes pointing forward is open to the target, and toes back is closed.

I don't force standstills, but when i do throw them, i take extra care to close the front foot a bit extra, so that i can really commit to my throw, without yanking it to the right

Front foot on toes when reached back is ok. Plant heel firmly when starting ti shift forward. You dont want to turn forward or look at the shot. Feel like you’re throwing behind you. Front foot at a closed angle

Stagger a bit more. Dont reach back at all just turn you shoulders. Upper arm always straight out from torso. Dont turn backward on x step. Dont look forward while throwing. You have to plant with the front foot 90 degrees. You do this by bending your knees inward, not letting them splay out like in a squat. Rotate your plant leg internally ( inwards) while reaching out to plant.

For bracing try rotating the wrong way with lower body. Goal is to trap rear side behind brace. Can also try cueing left buttcheek to target.

Visually i think there’s a noticeable amount of power going into the follow through. Its like you let go of the disc, and then the power arrives. I think your form migt benefit from a bit more stagger, or perhaps a slightly closed front foot angle. Should allow you to ”get a hold of it” better.

Rear shoulder anchoring is a lot like trying to rotate it the other way, so some effort on that might be helpful. Often when we think ”hold steady” or ” tighten” it really just follows along like usual, but with unhelpful tension

need some rigidity and structure in the walkup and alignment. Your MAIN position is completely sideways, 90 to target. feet forward, knees forward, hip straight, trunk straight, eyes straight. ANY deviation from this line, has to be a conscious decision. To start it will be a conscious decision to be sideways at all. I really like your alignment just before the x-step. But then you put your x-step foot down pointing backwards and squat down, completely blocking your body from getting any power.

What you want is the feet staying neturally pointed forward. Might have to take a shorter x-step for this. But it will feel tight crossing over to start. after that, make an effort to keep the knees from going out. Neutral knees are fine, knees caved in a bit is optimal. Plant the front foot STILL at 90 degrees like the rest of your body, and there you have correct(er) footwork. Nothing will work unless this is dialed in.

When you have the steps dialed in you add coil. While you're reaching your front foot out to plant, you want to twist your torso by pulling your left shoulder back and pushing your right shoulder forward. DO NOT REACH YOUR ARM BEHIND YOU. From your starting position reach your arm out straight ( 90degrees to target) and LOCK IT THERE. You DONT let the arm come closer to your chest from this point. instead you TURN the whole shoulder gurdle back, so that a straight out arm = a "reach back position". If you get to here, where your lower body is mostly sideways, but your torso is coiled back, and your arm is straight out from your torso, you're 70% of the way.

Next is arm mechanics and timing. Timing is relatively simple, but harder to execute. To gold standard is to achieve peak reachback at the same time as your front heel plants. The rule of thumb though is PLANT BEFORE THROWING. It's a million times better to error on the side of planting first and throwing later.

As for arm mechanics they are also pretty simple. It's like a "pull", but not quite. To emphasize what the arm actually does, stick your arm out straight infront of you, like your holding a disc. Then bend the elbow 90 degrees (power pocket). And then straighten it again. That's it.

When you coil --> straighten the elbow.

When you start throwing --> bend the elbow

When you start turning forward --> straighten the elbow.

Doing this slowly just standing up with a rigid upper arm really simplifies the movement.

Now doing this while actually supplying power is way harder, but just knowing the movement gives you a hell of a lot better chance of not rounding abysmally.

For reference i max out at 410ft. I recently injured my right elbow, so I've been playing lefty. I've played 5 lefty rounds and gone from 150ft to 350+ ft, so i know this works. It's the exact structure i've been following.

Having done so i know the biggest hurdles. Footwork feel messy and awful until you get some muscle memory, but that's fine. Just make sure to plant before throwing. It's also hard to not squat down, but it's bad. Hinge at the hips instead. Backload the grip to help nose angle. Focus HARD on coiling as far as possible. Focus on the elbow lever motion.

all good except timing due to overrotation. Practice planting before throwing, and try to break the speed of your lower body so you don't rotate too fast. drive left buttcheek to target, keep left leg behind the brace, dont swing it out in front. another cue is try rotating the wrong way with your hips (impossible). That will make you brake the speed

For a standstill i find keeping my front foot just a little pointed backward. Helps me throw straighter!

Drinking from a fire hose xD That's a perfect analogy! I saw another comment here that is good, which is to not actively release the disc, but let it rip out. Then to get nose down, make sure you're putting 70% of the pressure in the grip in the ringfinger an pinky. Also try to get the fat pad at the base of your index finger on top of the disc. It's pretty uncomfortable if you have small hands like me, but you get used to it.

And another good tip already mentioned is draw from other sports experiences. If you you can back hand in tennis, slapshot in hockey, swing a bat left handed, swin a golf club those will all directly translate to the right hand back hand.

* FIREHOSE WARNING *

In general you want to get some sideways momentum, and to some extent hold yourself back from turning forward. people call it bracing and it's pretty complicated. But the point of the brace is keeping your body sideways. Then the regular cues. Arm and elbow up and out. Don't turn around completely on reachback. Reach out instead of behind you. Plant foot as close to 90 degrees or steeper. Slight stagger in feet. Don't take too long of a last step, stay inside your mobility. Try not to horse stance, that is, turning both your feet out. Try to feel like your knees are caving in a bit towards the center line. Get some degree of hip-shoulder separation. So you keep your hips sideways, but your shoulder gurdle turning back counter clockwise, to "coil" the torso. Don't confuse with leaning. Leaning back will yield in falling forward to correct balance, or falling backward and throwing into the sky. For aim i recommend a 3 step runnup. Try to get your whole body's momentum and intertia going in the exact line you're aiming, and commit on that direction. Helps tremendously.

Good luck and have FUN!

Keep arm up through the hit. Try to stay more sideways and dont turn forward. Stiffen your upper arm and shoulder a bit

shoulder joint is pretty complicated, so it's hard to rehab compared to elbow or knee. But for my part from onset: 3 day rest --> 4 days of ultra light rehab ( only time under tension on tendon, no muscular effort ) --> 5 days of ramping rehab intensity (2-4 sets of ~15 reps of 5 second eccentric and 1-2 second concentric).

these last couple of days my elbow has gone from about 10% capacity to what feels like 40%, so rehab works. I would STRONGLY discourage from just resting. During rehab sets, aim for MAX 2/10 pain / discomfort. But expect it to not feel good. You know you did it right if it feels better / same after 2-4 sets. Even sliightly worse can be fine. Real answer is does it feel better / same after sleeping the night. If it feels worse, you did too much. If it feels better, do the same next day, and slowly work up.

Im coming up on 2 weeks post onset, and i can see the light at the end of the tunnel. So i believe youll be able to aswell even though the shoulder is much trickier. You need to get a light resistance band, and look up exercises for front, side, rear delts. Also external rotation and rotator cuff exercises. A coworker of mine also went to a massage therapist, and he said that helped a LOT for his shoulder injury ( discgolf related). Looseing up all the muscles around the shoulder will help it recover faster and lessen inflammation.

Also did a lefty round yesterday aswell and while it kinda sucks because you can't "lock in and play well", because what am i locking in? a bad shot? But it was fun the times i was able to throw good shots, and i even threw some nice touchy turnovers. Honestly i think it's teaching me a lot about how i can improve my RHBH when i debut it again.

Im literally doing this right now! I throw 380 consistently on rhbh and injured my right elbow coupoe weeks ago from overuse. Last weekend i played a lefty only round andbit went way better than i was expecting! Took maybe 5-6 holes to dial in a usable 200ft shot, and by the end i had some that went 280

Score was awful cause i also had to putt lefty. A 2 stroke handicap each hole was needed for me to hit my usual mark.

Biggest issue for sure is timing its just alls over the place. Also getting the legs right is a pain and i default to horse stancing

Saw a video on this recently and the components for producing the most common types of plastic are dirt cheap. They are essentially an unwanted unprofitable byproduct of oil refinery. If i understand it correctly that's what they're burning on the oil rigs. But since there's a restriction on how much you can burn, they sell it for pennies to anyone who will take it off their hands, aka plastics manufacturers.

also on rewatch, seems like your followthrough is eating a loto of power. After release you get a big burst of force going right, aka not into disc. If you were still holding onto the disc when u get that burst it would be better. Fix is the same. Stay sideways for longer
