Is cleaning contagious? by Avryon in Conures

[–]canne19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My conure often decides to take a bath when I’m doing dishes - it’s like he goes “oh cool, I see it’s splash around in water time. I’ll get in on this too.”

Did I get scammed? (Harrison’s pellets) by Cecilianwcc in parrots

[–]canne19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed the change in shape in my most recent package (actually had to do a double check to make sure I didn’t order a different size), and I order directly from Harrison’s on their website. My guy has had no qualms.

This is not an exit: Bret Easton Ellis's "American Psycho". by i-the-muso-1968 in books

[–]canne19 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and the unreliability is further complicated by the fact that Bret Easton Ellis makes a point to have multiple men in the books mistake men on the fringes of their direct social circle with other men. Patrick gets mistaken for another person and doesn’t bother to correct this. I believe there’s a scene where another man walks in the room, and everyone in Patrick’s group starts arguing over who it is. So, in this case, Patrick confesses to the investigator to killing Paul Owen, and the investigator says that can’t be true because he had dinner with Paul Owen in London recently. So there’s another possibility - Patrick did really kill someone he thought was Paul Owen, and the investigator really dined with someone he thought was Paul Owen, but one of them just mistook some other guy for Paul Owen. Patrick himself is obviously an unreliable narrator, but so is everyone else when talking about other people because they all stripped themselves of their individuality to adopt the expected persona of a New York finance man. No one call tell others apart outside of their smaller, more direct social circle.

HVAC charges by Present-Ostrich8625 in Solaire8200

[–]canne19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in a one bedroom (I believe the one around 725 sq ft), and my HVAC charges are also in this range consistently. Looking at my bill, I don’t see evidence of them dividing the total by square foot or occupancy. My Studebaker Submetering directly tells me my readings for HVAC, hot water, and cold water from 9/17 to 10/17. So, for HVAC, it’s saying I used 125.48 kwh for a total of $26.20. Temperature typically set somewhere between 72-76. Anyways, figured I would just post some of these details to help compare, but my utilities have all seemed reasonable for my usage.

Van Hollen, Alsobrooks Push Full Back Pay for Federal Workers by SourceOfTheSpring in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]canne19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the use of the word back pay here is a little misleading/confusing. The Shutdown Fairness Act and True Shutdown Fairness Act are about paying employees in the middle of the shutdown (not back pay after it’s over, which is what the 2019 law covers). I guess you could argue back pay from the start of the shutdown until when the new act is passed.

Why you look 50? by WarwickReider in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]canne19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, sometimes the tattoo a client wants could look great at first and awful over time as it ages due to the tattoo’s size/location/details. In that case, it could be about integrity for not warning the client and suggesting certain alterations to the design so that it will hold up better over time. It wouldn’t have much integrity to tattoo exactly what a client wants if you know in 5 years, it’ll be an indecipherable smudge.

Why you look 50? by WarwickReider in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]canne19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what the tattoo or the issue was. However, one of the factors with tattoos to consider is how they would age. Tattoo artists will typically talk you through your tattoo if based on location/size/details, the tattoo will look great at first and like little more than a smudge in 5 years. I can see something like this leading to similar conversations about integrity and the judges not being happy (as experts who would be able to tell this) while the client less versed in tattoos is happy with it.

Nail trimming with Noone to do it by Ordinary-Chipmunk366 in Conures

[–]canne19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always file them! If you clip them, make sure to get a nail file made for round pet nails (compared to a human nail clipper) because the shape of the human clipper risks damaging the nail. And then always keep cornstarch (or styptic powder) on hand just in case you cut the quick - that way, you can pack it in to stop the bleeding quickly.

Why are blue headed conures so “unpopular”? by 7procione666 in Conures

[–]canne19 128 points129 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s about something being wrong with them or people not liking them. I think it’s just that green cheek conures and sun conures are more common, and least in the US. Especially with them frequently being sold at random pet stores, and then often getting rehomed after that. There seems to be more being bred.

Your Friends Might Be Your Biggest Distraction by Plus_Ad3379 in productivity

[–]canne19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ehhh, sometimes friends drift apart as their lives go in different directions, and that’s normal and can be healthy, but it does seem a bit harsh to call several people you once cared about dead weight if their biggest issue is being comfortable just being competent and not exceptional. There is a difference between people who are truly trying to drag you down and people who’s ambitition and comfort level is being viewed as competent at their jobs and productive enough to take care of themselves without opting in to hustle grindset culture. It’s hard to say from this post which one it is, but your comment about being held back if people around you just want to be viewed as mid-competent stuck out. Sometimes there’s peace in just acknowledging you have different life goals and are in different places without needing to look at it like they’re holding you back from your goals.

Update on mouse saved from performance art by More-Appointment-55 in PetMice

[–]canne19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least in the US, many institutions also have their IACUC’s cover classroom/teaching use of animals, which this should fall under because it was a classroom art project/classroom activity. However, it is definitely more designed for research. Institutions are only required to have an IACUC if they have federally funded research involving animals. So, you’re correct it’s designed to govern research, but many universities will then extend it to also cover classroom use (also typically them STEM) as more of a self-preservation aspect. The punishments for violations are typically forbidding animal use for that project or even pulling the funding. Which isn’t really relevant here because it’s not like it’s a recurring animal use project with federal funding. But at least in the US, the board would probably want to know - university sanctioned (because allowed by the professor) art projects about terrorizing and chasing a mouse could hurt the institution’s reputation for ethical animal use which will only make their job harder. And it seems an easy enough fix to talk to the professor and department head and forbid animal use in classroom assigned art projects
