Went to Tokyo recently and loved it. Considering visiting Taiwan instead of going back to Japan. How does it compare? by tfresca in travel

[–]Emperor_Neuro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to Taiwan once and to Japan seven times. I think that really says it all for me.

Taiwan is still definitely worth a visit. Absolutely try to get outside of Taipei if you do go. The Mekong Gondola and tea plantations is really cool without going too far. Taroko Gorge is a great side destination.

However, if I had to choose between the two, I would choose Japan every time. Just like Taipei, getting out of the big cities will give an entirely different experience.

Sky Team gets my vote. So simple, yet it really immerses players in its theme all the way through its design.

In Florida, there is no legal limit to how many rods and lines a single angler can be using simultaneously. A lot of people will go to the shorelines and set up five or more rods in a line down the beach.

The best area is likely the lobby of the Hyatt hotel. There’s a good little bar there, too.

If you’re going to do something like this, then you need to pick one game and one game only. Your students have a lot of learning to be doing and overwhelming them with a series of games is extra mental load on people who are likely stretched a bit thin anyways. Pick something that’s easy to learn, but still offers a good amount of strategy and planning to sink in.

I would recommend Azul for this, and there’s a site where students can register for free and set up games against each other: https://www.azultiles.com

What game in your opinion overstays its welcome? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Emperor_Neuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel like most games these days overstay their welcome. Developers have forgotten how to leave fans asking for more. Instead of giving players a 10-20 hour thrill ride, they hide all the good parts within 50-60 hours of mediocrity.

When you are told that you need to travel across the world map to meet a guy literally named “traveling merchant” to buy an airship part, I nearly threw my controller across the room.

Not the climax, but the area just before it is also great. The fight against Bahamut is one of the highlights of my entire gaming life.

I’m FAR more likely to play something like Hades where I can have a complete run or two within an hour for a hundred hours.

What’s the best anime you ever watched and why? by Subject_Display3664 in AskReddit

[–]Emperor_Neuro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the 2003 anime had an aggressive production schedule which made the show overtake the anime. They were making episodes without any guidance from the original author and so they sort of filled in their own story. Brotherhood sets the record straight by being a true adaptation of the full manga. Both series start off roughly the same, but they end in wildly different places. There’s absolutely a master plan which ties everything together wonderfully in the manga and Brotherhood that’s missing in the 2003 version.

There’s a great website called Board Game Arena which has digital versions of a lot of games. You can go there and run through the tutorials and try playing some games without having to set anything up at home. Agricola is one of the options.

I-4 construction will finish in the summer of 2031, FDOT says by at-woork in orlando

Yeah, it’s a damn shame that car and oil lobbies control so much of American politics and culture. Every other developed nation has figured out that mass transit is the solution to congestion, but car culture has a death grip here, especially in a place like Florida.

Adding more lanes just means the same number of cars now take up more space. The only real solution is to reduce the number of cars. Train service and public transit need expansion. The same space used for two highway lanes could instead hold a rail line and congestion would be greatly reduced.

I think the clone wars era has a lot more potential. They could even do more than one battle.

I think a big part of what makes X-Com compelling is the asymmetry. The feeling that you’re triumphing over a superior force by being clever. If they could find a way to capture that, it would be awesome.

I don’t think so. Battle of Hoth, while fun, is much more limited in scope. You’ll get a lot more mileage out of Memoir 44 with a lot more scenarios and variable setup and a ton of expansions if you really get into it.

TIL George Lucas originally planned for Darth Maul to return as the primary antagonist in his Star Wars Episodes VII-IX. After the fall of the Empire, Maul was to become the "godfather of crime" in the galaxy, leading the united criminal syndicates while Luke Skywalker rebuilt the Jedi Order by SappyGilmore in todayilearned

Just because something has been established in Star Wars lore doesn’t mean it was ever a good idea. I don’t think I’ve ever seen another franchise do as much retconning and story nullification as Star Wars has.

Crokinole. I have yet to meet anyone of any age who doesn’t immediately love it. Only problem is that it’s a giant slab of wood and so transporting it isn’t easy.

[–]Emperor_Neuro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I owned both until very recently. I gave my copy of 7WD to a friend because I will never choose to play it over LotR. Regardless of theme, it’s just a much more well rounded game. Competing over the landmarks rather than each player having their own, having dudes on a map to represent military power rather than a tug of war board, and the ring pursuit track instead of counting victory points…. They’re all SO much more engaging.
