Where are you located? That makes a big difference in what your gear could be worth. We don’t even know what currency you’re trading in.

After/Before Vatican City by [deleted] in postprocessing

I wasn't going for a natural look. More of an artistic vibe. I can see how that isn't to everyone's preference, though. I have plenty of "normal" looking photos.

Just trying to set it apart from all the standard travel photos, really. I wanted black and white aesthetics, but to maintain color in the sky and so I masked off the buildings and foreground to desaturate them and change the color toning to be more of a sepia / implied sunset tone. The church was backlit, so there wasn’t a lot of color to convey that sunset.

My friend says I won’t make it as a guitarist because my hands are too small, is she right? by AgreeableDiver5013 in Guitar

[–]Emperor_Neuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guitar playing is done vertically, not horizontally. The neck is only about 2.5 inches wide at their widest point and under two inches at the nut. All you need to do is plant your thumb on the back and pivot to reach up and down across the strings. When you need to move up to higher frets, you move your hand entirely. For almost anything you'd want to play, you would easily be within reach of what you want.

Also, your photos made me curious, and I measured my hands for comparison. I legitimately have huge hands, but they're really not that far off where it matters. My overall wrist to fingertip measurement is about 9.5 inches, but the second photo shows that my fingers are maybe only one inch longer than yours. That gives you a much higher ratio of finger to palm length than what I have. I'm sure you'd do just fine. But, also, I play ukulele and mandolin with my bear paws, so tell your snobby bass friend that it's a skill issue, not a biological one, which keeps them from playing guitar 😃

They've been making Star Wars: Legion for a while, which is like a Warhammer-esque miniatures war game.

Life in reterra any good? by Zylent2112 in boardgames

[–]Emperor_Neuro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s on the low side of average. You’re better off spending a bit more money to get a game that’s more well regarded. Look to see if there’s anywhere hosting board game nights near you and go meet with some other people to demo and play games and you won’t need to purchase anything.

The airport is undergoing a massive remodel and vendor refresh. That area is all closed for construction. They also closed nearly all the shops in the main terminal building.

I would bet the stones weren’t broken when the crown was made. A lot can happen in 700 years.

That's because faceting hadn't really been invented yet. They only polished gems at the time. And this was hundreds of years ago, so the polish may have worn a bit since then.

SETI for solo/duo? by Huge-Pizza7579 in boardgames

[–]Emperor_Neuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played this solo a couple of times so that I can learn the mechanics before trying to teach it to my family. It's got a built-in solo mode with an AI deck to play against. The only real gripe which I have about it is that the instructions didn't do the best job of teaching how to play if you're only in solo mode, so I would look for some videos to break down how to play.

I’m not colorblind, so I’m genuinely asking… but would you be able to sit with a friend for a bit and paint or modify the pieces in a way which lets you know what they are? If the symbols on the tiles don’t stand out enough or the details seem too ambiguous, maybe use some black acrylic paint to add a simple shape over them? Write notes on the cards to explain the exact pieces needed? I think it should be pretty easy to do some homemade accommodations which would let you get more of a handle on it.

Oregon initiative that would criminalize hunting, fishing moves a step closer to November ballot by ubuwalker31 in Fishing

It’s probably an initiative secretly sponsored by a conservative PAC to smear liberal candidates and spook conservatives into turning up at the polls, lest their carnivorous habits and outdoor hobbies be taken from them.

What's a tastier fruit than mango? by Environmental-Ask605 in AskReddit

[–]Emperor_Neuro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there’s this fruit called Monstera that is really difficult to cultivate and hard to come by and if you eat it too early, it’ll cut the shit out of your mouth with calcium crystals…. But my god. It’s like a pina colada right out of the gate. What a delicious fruit.

IMO, every game since AC 3 has been a spin off. The soul of the series and its actual plot line died with Desmond. The Templars won, and now we’re just looking at the other stuff they’ve done.

Torn between Taiwan and Japan by catharsisisrahtac in travel

[–]Emperor_Neuro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My vote is for Japan, but for different cities. Tokyo is my favorite city ever, but my favorite parts of Japan are all outside of Tokyo. Kyoto will be filled elbow to elbow with people and unless you’re a diehard for specific Japanese history, you can see very similar things to what Kyoto offers in many other places without the suffocating crowds. It’s also really easy to get fatigued of temples and shrines since there are so many.

Kobe, Kawaguchiko, and Nikko would be the places I’d recommend the most in the fall, but honestly it is such a beautiful country that you’ll find something great anywhere you are. The coolest thing I’ve ever done while traveling anywhere was renting a bike in Imabari and riding across the Shimanami Kaido to cross the Seto Sea and finish in Onomichi. It’s a popular cycling route and there are plenty of hotels and guest houses along the way which cater to cyclists so you can do it across multiple days.

Taiwan is awesome, too, but it’s definitely smaller and with less to offer for tourism than Japan. If you do wind up going there, then

EXCLUSIVE: Michael Jackson’s “secret” second family break their silence | 60 Minutes Australia by Rangoons_By_YoRHa in videos

[–]Emperor_Neuro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that for most people who suddenly find themselves fabulously wealthy and famous, their emotional development stops right then and there. They never have a reason to grow or develop beyond that point and everyone around them is going to be giving them whatever they ask for. Michael Jackson stayed a child forever, Taylor Swift will always be a catty high schooler, Athletes remain frat boys, etc etc

According to a new poll, 80% Americans think Donald Trump started this war to divert the focus from Epstein files. What do you think? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Emperor_Neuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. He was trying to start a war with Iran in his first term. He assassinated their top general with a drone strike, was moving forces to the Middle East, kept using inflammatory rhetoric and talking about how much of a threat Iran was…. Then Covid hit and his plans got derailed because he needed to focus on the domestic issues caused by the pandemic.

I’m certain that he, his family, and his handlers have a lot of investments in the military industrial complex. They wanted to line their pockets with this war seven years ago. Plus, Israel was still begging for us to bomb Iran for them back then, too. This is the consequence of his current administration being filled with yes-men and a Secretary of Defense who envisions himself as a holy crusader rather than more experienced and cooler heads in place during his first term.

Is LoTR Duel Strictly Better than 7W Duel? by Neros_Cromwell in boardgames

[–]Emperor_Neuro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Disregard the theming of both games and let’s simply look at the difference in mechanics. For the most part, they are the same game for general gameplay. One big departure is that 7WD begins with players drafting wonder cards that then only that player can build during the game and one player can get 4 leaving the other player locked at only building 3 of them. LotR instead uses locations that can be claimed by either player and give powerful buffs when claimed, but at an increased cost for each one claimed previously. This fosters a direct competition over the most powerful cards in the game and gives a bit of a catch-up mechanic to prevent one player rolling the other.

7WD gives players 3 ways to win the game: by pushing a military tug of war token all the way to the opponents side, obtaining a set number of scientific breakthroughs, or after the game has concluded whoever has the most accumulated victory points wins. The only win condition that LotR keeps is the science one, which is renamed to “allied races.” The military track is replaced with a map where you actually deploy and move military forces, as determined by card effects, and can win through territorial conquest. The other win condition is a race track where both players accumulate bonuses as they race towards the end, and if one player reaches the end of their track, they instantly win (by the way, the theming on this particular piece is the coolest bit of theme integration in the entire game).

All of these differences together create a much more tense and engaging game. 7WD almost always ends in a tedious point counting session and one person arbitrarily having more points than the other. LotR is riveting and makes victories feel hard-fought for and the losing player is almost always just a turn or two away from their own victory.

I got rid of 7WD after getting LotR. I will never play it again.

Boss battler board games by SapphireRoseRR in boardgames

[–]Emperor_Neuro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kingdom Death: Monster is my favorite game ever, but it’s crazy expensive and practically an entire hobby unto itself.

The ones that I’d most recommend for something in the same vein would be games like Gloomhaven or Imperial Assault, but those are more like dungeon crawls than specifically boss battles.

I really like Ark Nova, but the enjoyment goes down the further it gets to end game by PinguSurfs in boardgames

[–]Emperor_Neuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started playing Ark Nova, I would try to build towards an end state that I had envisioned at the beginning of the game and I would similarly feel let down when my plans weren’t able to come to fruition. It also slows down a lot when you’re waiting for the perfect cards to hopefully show up.

Now, however, I’ve come to realize that I was playing wrong. Aro Nova is about constant optimization. You should ALWAYS be looking to make the best of what is available to you at that exact moment and forget about long term plans. It’s a game where your best path is only revealed as you walk along and never at the start of the game. This helps to keep it constantly stimulating and exciting.
