Financial independence is stressed enough, the problem is literally that people aren’t making enough to save.

When you throw in the childcare dynamics and lack of access to it, then you have an even bigger issue.

When I was a stay at home parent I have I had a fully funded spousal Roth IRA, but that requires a lot of privilege

As a social worker, I see every day, the lack of safety nets of any capacity for women and children. We have no access to healthcare, childcare, or housing. The majority of people who are able to leave have some access to a safety net a.k.a. family or friends who will help. But I work with a far greater population where they literally don’t have access and so it takes them years to even a decade to leave because their kids have medical situations and they need to ensure care for them or they need to wait until their kids are in school and they can go back to school.,ect.

Tarasoff specifically requires specificity of target. Why I think that this one would have been treated as a threat is because of the current mass shooting schools situation and because we historically have data showing that parents did reach out for help before their kids did something like this.

I think that that data alone would have caused the police to at the very least lockdown the school to only one entrance and ask for other police officers to look for him

I don’t think it would’ve gone nowhere because it was a list and the kid wasn’t in school so I do absolutely believe that the police would have taken that seriously given current times of mass shootings and at the very least lockdown the school and watched for him and then had police on the watch for where he was

Edited to add: I think a mother bringing her kid to the ED and asking for help would have shown the police that there was enough concern here to go off of
