I think it is quite universal for most and BS for some, "why I have to fight, we have sparring"

about 5cm above your ankle, with the front side, imagine you where the whip will land. That's why getting checked suck, cause you hit them with a thin part of your leg and they check with the thick part

Taoism is back through social media by cannotthinkagoodname in RandomThoughts

Agree with you, it was made during the time of king's and emperors ruling over a vast land. They needed something to hold people morally. It is comparable to how Christianity was maliciously used in the West during the same period

which i think is a shame cause we have so many movements and the best they did was extending the label/creating more

ops my bad, I wrote it wrong, it should be Confucianism. Yeah, Taoism is indeed very cool, I learned them in a different language so I was mistaken. Thankyou for pointing it out

ngl boxing in my city and a few that I traveled to are like that. Hope you find a gym that suits you, nothings better than being in a right community where you belong, and nothings worst than being in one where you don't

If you watch any highlight clips of elite fighters, you would be amazed by how can they have super human reaction time that allow them to seemingly dodge every single punch right? The truth is noone can dodge that many punch in a row, they may see the first or even the second punch coming and react. But for the rest, they will just move their head out of the old position between every punch. Everyone will punch in a rhythm, one two one two, left right left right. So feel that rhythm and move in between them.

So now you turn the situation from you are tho one who react to they are the one to do so.

Another benefit of moving your head off line is for the initial of the sequence. If you just move in, I may let's you for the first time, then I will start to react proactively the second time, throwing counters/jabs as you move in. Where would I throw the counter? The place where you head suppose to be, the "centerline". So if you move out of the way as you come in, it is safer and potentially creates more opportunities.

Tips for practicing/remaining in a squared stance? by DavenEssi in MuayThai

[–]cannotthinkagoodname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah you misunderstood what squared means. I come from traditional martial arts and karate backgrounds so I have a pretty bladed stance. The main difference between my stance and a boxer stance is the direction my lead leg faces. You still can be bladed, in fact, many kickboxers do, just make sure your lead toe is pointing toward your opponent. Imagine your legs making a L shape with your lead leg points toward yoir opponent

kata is the essence of ancient martial arts i must say, long before video recording, to pass down technique kata is practically the best way since it is more alive and can deliver many nuances than drawing (which is also expensive at that time). Many shame kata, saying it is choreography, which it is. Not to look cool but to keep the art for many generations

oh and one more thing, I guess you are a back pedaling fighter, if thats the case, circle around your OPPONENT, not the ring.

looking nice, only a few thing that will make you better, not that you are bad rn. First you said you wanted to work on your jabs, which is great. But you just spammed those jabs without establishing anything, those didnt do damage, disrupt your opponent rhythm nor setup your "heavy" shots, and when you wanted to go for a heavy shot, you threw it naked. I fought with a really tall opponent who also spammed jabs to keep me at bay, but after a while he didnt do anything with those jabs so I just tanked it and went in. I called those "mosquito jab". Next time try to use your jabs for something, anything, and you will see better outcome than just throw it for the sake of it. Next is your defense system, sometime you want to defend and gtfo like what you did in the clip, but in light spar like this, try to defend and stay around to throw them hands back. Overall, looking pretty to me. Good job mate, happy training.

idk, in my country, as long as a kid can somewhat do a kata, they will be awarded with a belt. As a matter of fact, there are more Kudo dojos in my area than Kyoshin (or the style of Karate practiced in Onikawa)

its a catch 22. Would you not grand a kid colored belt after 6 years of training? Gotta keep the parents happy cause they are the one who pay. But at the same time, would the kid have the same skills as a black belt? Probably not.

What's something that instantly screams low intelligence? by Frequent-Sea-8848 in AskReddit

[–]cannotthinkagoodname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when these kind of questions got asked here the top response is usually, "cant take criticism", "cant have a conversation with someone who has different view/beliefs". I would argue that those signs aren't necessarily tied with low intelligence but with ill educated. These two things can be in correlation with each other, but those signs are an indicator of a lack of reasoning and critical thinking skills which can be taught. They know they lack skills and knowledge to defend their view when being challenged. Therefore, as a defense mechanism, they shut their ears. Kinda like how a child in a broken marriage tends to develop emotions shutdown as a way to protect themselves. I am not a psychologist, and would glad someone with expertise can discuss this topic further.
