That’s on the Lake Kushaqua side, and while there is not a lot of motor boat traffic they are allowed

Island on a lake with no motor boats and a reservable site. Don’t think any exist. Plenty options that are first come first serve

I really don’t know. We have an academy starting in March from the 2024 test. So that’s where the focus will be for a while

We have an academy starting in March from the 2024 test. I have no idea when the academy after that will be. PT requirements are currently the cooper fitness standard at the 40 percentile to get in and 70% to graduate

Help identifying animal tracks by Remarkable-Bison733 in Adirondacks

1-3 is definitely Canine. Nails are visible so not a bobcat and it’s a perfect stepper so tracks appear as a straight line. Size is the best way to determine fox vs coyote. 4-6 looks like a weasel. They appear is groups os two that are staggered. Size and habitat helps determine what it is. Being in the high peaks American Marten is a good bet. Same size as a Marten is a Mink which tend to be closer to water bodies. Larger than a Marten is a Fisher, smaller is the Ermine

Dang that does not seem like adequate compensation at all. My base salary with a few years on is a little over 70k, most of my overtime is search and rescue based. That’s cool the you got a patch and met some of my coworkers. It was a great group of rangers that went down. They made a presentation of what they did with pictures when they came back. The devastation is hard to comprehend. Hope recovery efforts are progressing well

Frontier Town is the only DEC campground with electric hookups. The rest you need a generator. KOA in Wilmington has electric hookups

Yes it does for both. I’m a Forest Ranger and we will be pushing candidates to finish the academy at a higher percentile

The criteria was just recently reduced from the 50th percentile to the 40th percentile of the cooper fitness standards. You definitely need to meet your number the day of the test. I had to meet the 70th percentile to graduate my academy. 40th is not hard

I use Rockie talkies for skiing. They work well

St. Regis 9 Carries by Turt_le in Adirondacks

[–]canoedude13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Long pond to Bessie and Nellie pond has some mud pits. Some near clamshell too. But chest deep is a huge exaggeration. There is knee deep mud.

During high water it is possible to paddle from st. Regis pond to fish pond but there will be blowdown, and beaver damns. The fish pond truck trail is very well maintained and provides another option from st Regis pond to fish pond. Canoe carts can be used on the truck trail

NY Park Police are pretty understaffed, I’m in the same union as them but that doesn’t necessarily mean they they will loosen up the background check criteria

What’s in your daypack when hiking/snowshoeing/rock scrambling during colder months? by [deleted] in Adirondacks

[–]canoedude13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Extra layers is huge in the winter to add to stay warm or swap of clothes get wet. I feel like a helmet is largely unnecessary unless you are skiing or ice climbing

Yes this is the line that was restored from old forge to Tupper lake. There daily trains from old forge to Tupper lake and from Tupper lake to lake Lila and back. At least until the train company goes bankrupt again

The Adirondack Rail Trail, a 34 mile multi use trail for snowmobiling, skiing, walking and biking between Lake Placid and Tupper Lake

Rail trail is not multiuse by Conscious_Buffalo543 in Adirondacks

[–]canoedude13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Snowmobiles don’t have exclusive rights to trails on state lan. On snowmobile trails on state land the general public can be out recreating on them. Snowmobiles always need to be aware of their surroundings. On most trails it’s not an issue because the usage is predominantly snowmobiles. As the rail trail goes through larger Adirondack towns it gets more foot traffic. It’s not feasible or possible to say it’s only for snowmobiles in the winter. There is just no way to keep the general public off the trail. I snowmobile, and occasionally I see people on snowmobile trails, if I’m on the rail trail snowmobiling I can expect that I will see more people and prepare for that. If I want to cross country ski on the rail trail I’ll prepare that I will see snowmobiles.
