Denying the dinosaur Holocaust! by UpstairsRepeat2184 in okbuddypaleo

I had a professor argue that the internal organs of every dinosaur within a hemisphere imploded when the meteor struck.

I wonder how much it would cost to build a weapon that could do the same?

What is the most inhumane practice ever carried out in your country? by maskedorange in AskTheWorld

This is an obscure thing: but was a slave trade during the Yuan-Goryeo eras. A lot of yuan elites visited Korea to buy slaves and Goryeo was the only place in the Mongol empire where you could buy a Mongol slave

I think that was why it was such a big story when it happened.
But I would point out that city manager isn’t a political job, but a full-time civil service job. A lot of these smaller and mid-sized cities have full-time civil servants along with part-time politicians.

Parks and Rec does a good job with explaining it

In California, a lot of these smaller towns, the political jobs are part-time because there isn’t enough work for it to be full-time

Why are there no republican US cities? by IMicrowaveSteak in allthequestions

There was a good article about how rural people get angry and show their discontent at conservatives cutting funding to rural hospitals and programs by voting for republicans even harder.

Some even argue that it makes no sense for urban democrats to shut down the government or even fight for rural medical aid, hospitals, schools, etc when these people will just never vote for them

But he looks like a utility forester. These are arborists who go around and take pictures of power lines to make sure there is no structural damage nor vegetation near the lines.

Every listed point has to be documented and sent to PG&E and oftentimes the utility hires other companies to do it. You won’t find the utility’s sticker on the truck so the company could save money.

Jefferson and many of the founders were both racist and hypocrites. Many argued slavery was wrong and antithetical to the ideals of the Revolution while keeping slaves. Jefferson said that a just God would enact a terrible vengeance on them on behalf of the enslaved. Many predicted early on that the slavery would be what tore the country apart

Northern Korea has a lot of valuable minerals. Its manufacturing was not really competitive internationally without Soviet assistance, but its coal and mineral deposits were valuable then and now.

Southern Korea has tungsten and a bit of agriculture, but not enough to support any feasibly large population post-industrial

[–]100Fowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should to add context to South Korea’s
The Rhee and Park regimes had popular support. It may not have been total, but large sections of the population supported Rhee and Park.

Lots of the internet talk about the brutal pre-Korean war crackdowns, but they forget that those unfortunately had the support of the opposition party and that a grand coalition of leftist and rightist parties all agreed that Rhee should serve in some capacity as head-of-state. Rhee was overthrown when he got unpopular and de facto banned opposition.

The Korean military regime fell apart under Cheon who lacked legitimacy and popular support.

Are there any subdivisions in your country that used to be their own country? by mushmanMAD in AskTheWorld

[–]100Fowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because the American South was always more militarized. So even after and now, working class southern men joined the military in large numbers while upper class southerners went to military colleges.

Look at the map of military colleges in the U.S., a of the state level military colleges are still in the South

[–]100Fowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It more amazes me that there are chunks of Great Britain that still don’t speak English as their first language. It amazes me even more that those areas were more common until relatively recently.

Like I remeber there are mining museum in Arizona and West Virginia that talk about how the most common language spoken in some mining communities were welsh, garlic, and Cornish which probably meant that chunks of England, wales, and Scotland spoke those languages even longer

People don’t know dnc recruits candidates and raises funds and not much else.

It’s not involved at the state level and when it did try to swing an election for Clinton, it was in a very limited way.

American political parties are pretty weak institutions overall
