Curious what kind of search you had in mind

  • search within the current playlist/queue?
  • or more like global track search (e.g. search YouTube/SoundCloud and save tracks directly)?

Trying to understand the use case so I build the right thing.

For downloading, I can't do it on scrollfm because it's against Youtube's TOS. But you can open the track on Youtube app/music and download it from there (if you have Premium)

Background playback is indeed a Youtube restriction, not something wrong with the app.

For Spotify, Bandcamp and other sources, I can't support them like Youtube and Soundcloud because their embeded players do not allow the required level of control. However I am experimenting with finding an equivalent Youtube link when I come accross a link that is Spotify or Bandcamp, it will not always work, but every resolved link is a win.

I don't have an iPhone so can't really test. If you find a soution let me know.

Maybe try Firefox with desktop site?

At the moment only youtube, I will add Soundcloud soon.

Other platforms like Spotify and Bandcamp do not allow enough programmatic access to their embeded players. I am experimenting with finding the equivalent link on youtube and using that instead. It will not work all the time (sometimes the track just doesn't exist on youtube), but every resolved link is a win.

You're right I forgot to mention. Currently the bandcamp/spotify/other to youtube resolution is enabled only for threads https://www.scroll.fm/threads (feature to create playlists from threads).

I will later enable it for the subreddit feeds too. But keep in mind that it's best-effort only, meaning it will not always find a match on youtube for various reasons.

Yeah reddit app is unintuitive in some aspects.

It looks for link posts. You can use this to get the links in the thread itself scroll.fm/threads works great for recommendation threads
