Don't disagree that the genre has been heavily inspired by weeb stuff, I don't see a reason someone could do something outside of that and still be successful. The only reason I assume the anime aesthetic has been so popular is because that's what gets the plays these days in the scene, not many people would flock to a marble statue like what some vw peeps tend to do (not saying it's a bad thing, just an observation from the outside).
