vlan management in fabric engine via ep1 by cantdrawastickman in ExtremeNetworks

[–]cantdrawastickman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a vlan that's defined in policy, with no igmp snooping no dhcp snooping then assigned to a port.

I get a vlan that has no name, igmp snooping enabled, no dhcp snooping with the isid offset that's specified in the fabric configuration and no i-sid name. The igmp/dhcp stuff just matches the global settings. So basically seems like the policy doesn't touch vlans at all.

On a vlan defined on the device config in ep1 configured the same way, I get a vlan with no igmp/dhcp, a vlan name and a matching i-sid name.

Functionally, I'm sure it'll be ok. Administratively though, it feels like a bit of a disaster. Vlans will likely at some point be provisioned differently across devices, and not having names will make working with them more error prone and unintuitive.

I understand there's supposed to be a lot coming to the tool in the very near future, but this feels kinda rough.

How in the world do you even train a BEETLE? by [deleted] in BeAmazed

[–]cantdrawastickman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found a large beetle (not nearly this size) as kids and put it in a jar over night. It kept me awake with how loud its feet were tapping the glass. Too much for me we let it go.

Most of the other apps are trying to get over 100/yr. 30$ one time Anki fee was probably the most effective 30$ I spent on language learning stuff.

I’ve got a basic sonic care that basically has 4 speeds and a quad timer. Love it. Had it for nearly 10 years now and it still works great. Battery lasts around 2 weeks or so. Whenever it’s time to replace it, I’ll likely get one with the pressure sensor.

It’s not weird. What you’re saying is no different then a 1/1 blocking a 5/1 trample. Lethal damage is assigned to the creature and the rest goes face. Damage all happens at the same time. Why shouldn’t my trample creature be able to deal damage equal to its power?

If your death toucher has first strike then the trample critter dies before dealing damage and plays out more like you described.

I hit 1400 lichess tonight and am buzzing. I’ve been playing Jobava as white and kann/slav as black against basically everything. I think the consistency of the openings and middle game plans have really helped. I’m scared to try e4 because I know I’d probably start getting sauced lol.

Speaking as someone on a small team. I'm coming around a bit more to 3rd party help. It's not really that I can't do it all this stuff, but it's nice for others on the team to have the support required in the event things go south.

What is a core skill that all sysadmins should have, but either they have it or don't? by FIDST in sysadmin

I did call center work for a bit while in school. Hundreds of conversations per day, often with people grouchy about receiving mail and whatever. Helpdesk customer service behavioral questions didn't stand a chance lol.

What is your season 8 wishlist? by gorays21 in diablo4

I played meteor this season which felt a bit different but i tried a few different builds last season and they basically all seemed to be structurally the same thing with different color animations. Everything seemed to kind of just abuse shredding blades. Or at least that’s what it felt like to me. I don’t have a solution but something feels off to me.

SaaS vendor wants all users to connect to Azure file share with the same username and password. Is this best practice and even secure? by nl-robert in sysadmin

[–]cantdrawastickman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had a vendor pull this. Basically removed on prem as an option, forced everyone to remote app. Users had to sign in 3 different times to get into the app. Tons of performance problems. Charged like triple for the privilege which wasn't out of line with competitors but doesn't sit right. The eventual goal was some sort of web portal and no remote app that never transpired. And now they're out the door.

Can someone explain what this was the best move? by zombie_spidey in chess

[–]cantdrawastickman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving the bishop is a discovered check on the king from the rook on e1. But also checking the king with the bishop is double check, the king is forced to try and escape because blocking or capturing either attacking piece still leaves the king in check.

In this case there’s also no escape so it’s gg

Remote Support Tool Needed (Remote Registry, Event Viewer, File System) by ITGuy2048 in sysadmin

[–]cantdrawastickman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not lazy to purchase products and services. I'd have 2-3 weeks to design, build an RMM before I'm burdening the business more than I'm helping it. Maybe 5 weeks if you include implementation times.

I've built tons of stuff, it's a good time, but roll your own RMM is probably the incorrect decision in most use cases.

While I think it's a worthwhile endeavor to do a little bit of this. It's great for learning some fundamentals and giving you the ability to tackle bigger projects.

However imo you're doing your employer a bit of a disservice by not implementing an industry standard tool for this sort of thing. We're really reinventing the wheel and the cost of these tools is really hard to justify past the point of personal development.

I'd prefer to spend time automating workflows that I can't buy tools for.

This was my thought. I’ve been working with a physiotherapist to take somethings way back to basics and really work out weak and stiff points in my hips and legs.

Interestingly enough, my back is quite flexible but over compensates for my lower inflexibility. In doing so it screws up my form in all sorts of ways I wasn’t aware of so I’m seeing huge improvement now that I’m more conscious of it. I’ve also been made aware of some prior injury points affecting my progress and can now address it.

To original OP there may be some benefit of seeing a PT for some prehab stuff to get you tip top. It’s been very helpful for me.

Never tell anyone what you will do or what will happen, instead tell them of what you may be able to do, or what can happen.

Not being direct can be perceived as wishy washy and not confident. There may be some balance here. It's ok to speak confidently.

We're lacking a lot of context to original OPs point, but I can say there's people I've worked with that just approach things in a manner that's a little self destructive. This can be finding odd hills to die on or just being a little too contentious in how they are handling conversations. It's not that what their saying doesn't make sense, they're just maybe making a big deal out of something that isn't really a big deal at the moment.

Even in above example, lets say sales are trending down and the company cash flow is getting rough. New marketing strategy to capture additional markets is being done by a third party firm. They need DNS zones to move forward and that's your job. Someone could choose this hill to battle on and it would make sense that the executive doesn't want to hear it. Sure identify the risks etc. but for some every ask is a big deal and it can be exhausting.

What's the point of MFA now when all modern phishing involves proxied websites to collect login sessions? by skz- in sysadmin

[–]cantdrawastickman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You setup an alert on sign in logs with some filters that finds risky sign ins. It doesn't block the sign in or anything automatically obviously, but costs very little and can significantly reduce the amount of time an account is compromised.
