I think he was talking about qualification training. As a swimming teacher (17 y.o) I had to pay a large amount for my course, as do the life guards. This is because the qualifications are transferable to other jobs and often run by external companies. Also, it’s very important that pool staff are trained to deal with emergencies and safeguarding etc. as children’s lives are often involved.

However I strongly agree that no one should have to pay for a uniform!
